Now, firstly, I love Team Fortress 2. I can't get enough of the game. I have it on the Orange Box for the 360, and I just love the style, the gameplay, and all the intricacies that just make it so enjoyable. Now, the one thing that sets it apart from other typical shooters, is the amount of teamwork and balance amongst classes that must be regulated in order to maintain equilibrium, and achieve victory. As such, I am quite annoyed when my team is composed of four Engineers who barely know how to play, three Soldiers with terrible aim, and a single Heavy who runs about gunning, unaware that he just let an enemy spy slip through.

Now, granted, I'm not perfect. No one is. Whichever class you play as does, ultimately, come down to personal preference. That is why I have prepared this thread to discuss general strategy, and specific class strategies you utilize. Namely, what is your favorite class? If you REALLY want to be an Engineer, but there are already two-three, do you still be one? What advice do you have for other would-be Pyros (Or any other class?) Discuss.

As for myself, I enjoy the Sniper: Great stopping power and Heavy-killer. Still trying to work on headshots. Not many people expect it, either.

Pyros unite! Gas masks rule you all!

I'm an ultra-novice at this game, but I love it. I've played around with a few classes, but I'm best with those crazy guys in the hazmat suits.

Remember the motto: "Reach out and torch someone."

Pyro can be a toughy to take down if he's a good runner/dodger

I vote Spy because I've managed to completely ruin ppl with the spy on my PS3 team fortress 2

FYI I am spy

If you want some info on TF2 then you've found one. I wish I was still 16th on the leaderboards for PS3* that was my awesome achievement for that game.

general rule you can never have enough engineer's unless they all suck...really badly I usually like my engies to be half invasion/assault and half defense

As a Sniper *this is for you Hawke* - If you can charge a 100% shot then you can kill anyone with 125 hp - that means other snipers coming out to get you, scouts going for the rush, spies, and engies. Other than that being a Sniper is a great responsibility for the team, you have to be active NOT STATIC EVER!!! I've been frustrated by the amount of snipers who would stay up in the crow's nest just to be killed by one single sniper. If your smart use every vantage point this includes the water grounds in 2Fort if a sniper spots you check to see if he's still watching out for you with the noticable spot that comes up with his scope up then surprise and attack from another spot. Also you can help your team in your fort and the enemies if it's low gaurded. Also one headshot usually doesn't kill a heavy.

Spy for sure. He so versatile and does so many things at once. The ease of getting rid of Sentrys and the opposing team is amazing. I've learned all the tricks in the book on how to use a Spy and even came up with my own. A well played Spy is so deadly and hard to deal with its scary. They only have one real nemesis, the Pyro, but you learn to avoid those until you need to mess with them as a Spy. All that plus its really fun to play as.

My second most used is probably Engineer mainly because I get stuck with retards who don't try to defend or just place sentrys in stupid places. Its not as fun but sometimes it just needs to be done, especially when you get stuck with 4 other Spys who suck and refuse to change to something more useful.

I also disagree with Medic+Pyro being just as good as Medic+Heavy or even Medic+Soldier. Pyros have to get too close to do anything, risking the medic, while Soldier and Heavy can stay back and just pummel the opponent before they even get close.

Spy is my favourite class in casual matches. Medic for when I have a good team or am in a more competitive match. Spy is crazy fun, but the problem is that it's useless in a really competitive setting where everyone has mics.

My stats: http://steamcommunity.com/id/FirestormXVI/stats/TF2

As for uber partners, it depends on the situation. If you need to clear out a group of people, it's usually good to go with Heavy. If you need to take out a large amount of sentries, go with a demoman. If you need to take out a group of people in a small area, pyro can usually do just as well as a heavy. I'm not a fan of ubering soldiers unless it's absolutely required. They just run out of ammo too fast =/

anyone else want to add strategies they've learned from TF2? o .o

I have one to contribute anyways:

Most people don't know of the true power of the Dispenser. It can supply infinite ammo to classes who's weapons munch ammo like Heavies and Pyros. You can absolutely abuse the way this infinite supply of ammo is for Heavies by making the not well known Heavy turret, though the guy playing Heavy is gonna get bored out of his skull for gaurd duty he'll get constant action out of people and spies being stopped flat by the constant blast of ammo the Heavy can pour out with the help of a turret this combo is even more harder to get past, as mentioned before spies even have problems killing a well placed Heavy turret because a spy's cloak will flicker when hit by bullets basically showing where the spy is for the Heavy to hit afterall a spy can outsmart a robot but he can't outsmart a human turret, any spy who thinks he can get past the Heavy turret with a normal disguise should think twice as any smart TF2 player constantly shoot down their friends to make sure their not spies. For a Heavy turret this is very very wise to abuse as your not losing any ammo out of it anyways and you'll kill off a spy to boot.

Behold the true power of the Dispencer

I've tried most of the time to kill him with a uncharged headshot the only way you can OHKO a heavy with a headshot is if the snipe is charged

what firestorm said

I have a certain fondness in my heart for the Spy (such a noble profession...), but I voted Pyro because I play him most and he's so...versatile. Even without a Medic you can wreak havoc on opposing players if you get the jump on them. And unlike Spy, Pyro doesn't fear coming face to face with his foes...he demands it!

Wow Qyyu, that whole paragraph was 2 sentences.

Anyway, some general strategy for Pyros and Spies:

As a Pyro, surprising your enemy is key. Take an alternate route and spring upon a group of enemies, set them all on fire, kill the weak ones (scouts, engineers, spies, etc) and leave the rest to die. If they have medics with heavies/soldiers, you may want to retreat. One of the trickiest situations I've noted as a pyro is fighting individual battles with other pyros. The most important thing is to make sure he doesn't know where exactly you are; move around in circles or messy patters so he can't stay trained on you. If you've ever seen two pyros fight, you'll notice they both move around frantically.

For spies, making sure nobody runs into you or sees you uncloak is the biggest thing. Running against the flow of human traffic is playing a dangerous game as well. Make sure you steer clear of Pyros. In terms of what to disguise as, the only classes that are reliable disguises (without sacrificing valuable speed) are Demoman, Engineer, Medic, and Sniper. You won't move as fast as a Scout, making that pretty transparent unless the opposing team is Scout rushing. Soldier and Heavy are okay if you don't mind the speed drop (Heavy especially as you may draw enemy Ubers and get a good laugh). If enemies see one of their own spies running around undisguised in their base with his revolver out, they'll likely be quite suspicious.

O ya and Phox I bet you didn't know this one but you can tell a spy from a medic by the uber charge meter under the user name. That's how I catch spies trying to sneak me as medic all the time. There's a lesson for you

I have the 360 version. I haven't played it in a while due to being occupied with the Half-Life series among other games. I don't really have a favorite character; however, I do play with some more than others. It all really depends on what the team needs, I'm willing to change.

The sniper is great fun, but he only seems useful on defense on Dustbowl for me. Maybe because I'm not as good with him as some of you guys are. :/

The soldier is who I probably play with most, he is just very useful on offense. I think I've mastered popping in and out to destroy turrets and taking minimum damage. Against just a plain fight, the soldier's rocket launcher deals heavy damage and instead of reloading, you can switch to your shotgun and finish the foe off if they are in critical condition. He is also a good candidate to work with a medic.

Demoman is one of my first choices on defense. Sticky grenades easily defend points with a touch of a button while the normal grenades serve as your main weapon and can even spawn camp if you are up to it. I've got my highest streak with him, which is 23, iirc.

Engineer is my other first choice on defense. I rarely lose to a spy because usually I like to set my turret near a wall so I can back up on the wall and save myself from backstabs. A dispenser on another side and constantly whacking my wrench when I see another player nearby makes it even harder for the spy. It's good to have a pyro nearby, too.

Oh yeah, I've seen scouts/spies run past the first capture point and get ready for the next one to catch the defending team off guard with an easy capture.

man I hate that pyro + sentry strat it's amazingly annoying when a sentry is in the way and one or two spies could easily handle the sentry but the pyro ruins that completely.

Medics are a terrible disguise, Medics are ALWAYS healing to gain their Uber and to just give a boost in HP to other people even if hes healing other Medics. Medics have their Syringe Gun out about 1% of the time, when they are trying to kill Spys or attack other classes, which they will usually lose. That and no Ubercharge.

Demoman is a good disguise, no loss in speed and no traits that make you go "This is a Spy." One of the disguises I prefer and use.

Engineer is also decent, but if you are hanging around Sentrys and other buildings and not using your wrench the enemy tends to get suspicious, especially engineers and they will shoot you right away to Spy check.

Sniper is meh, no speed drop and no trait that makes you go "is this a Spy." Usually if Snipers are around the front lines though they have their machine pistol out as the rifle doesn't do them much good up close, that and that Snipers tend to hang back, behind rocks, buildings, etc. Running around will draw some suspicion.

Scout is obvious, never use Scout, the speed drop from a normal Scout is evident right away. You aren't going to do much as a Scout.

Enemy Spy is stupid but not always evident to some players. I've run around as an opposing Spy and asked for a Medic or something and haven't had problems while other times I was shot on sight. It can be used, but not really recommended.

Soldier is meh, the speed drop hurts and most normal players will notice a Soldier who isn't shooting. Soldiers shoot a lot, around corners, anywhere an opponent will be hiding just to get splash damage and stop enemy rush.

Heavy is strange because they tend to be on the front lines, and if an enemy is nearby, the Heavy is spooling. Sometimes Heavys hang back and provide defense but many times they are up front providing back up cover for everyone else and constantly spooling the minigun. They speed drop hurts when you try to back stab and people notice a Heavy running around not doing much. Plus there tends to be maybe a max of one Heavy and you usually know where he is.

The best imo is Pyro, no speed drop and they are supposed to be around buildings, doing Spy checks and just overall defense for the team. Enemy Pyros won't always Spy check you and usually expect you to help out and will sometimes leave so they can provide defense somewhere else.

While those are some guidelines, you really have to decide in the game, if the enemy has no Heavys, why would you be a Heavy? Cloak, scope out the enemy team and disguise yourself as someone running to the front lines so you can hang back and destroy buildings. But this is all for naught if you get unlucky and get a name of someone looking right at you, they will notify their teammates right away that there is a "______ coming in as me" and will often times go after you. The use of the cloak is key, stab cloaking keeps Sentrys off your back and any enemy nearby won't know where you went. Cloaking and running somewhere where they won't check is needed to stay alive, and while cloaked you need to change your disguise so the enemy isn't looking for a Pyro named _____ running around.

Also Pyro+Dispenser might be better than Heavy+Dispenser. Easy Spy checks and hurts people coming around the corner to capture your flag, base, whatever.

One of these days I hope will Valve will release a patch making the Sentry Guns less powerful, so they can be killed by things other than the Spy and Soldier.

In response to all the Spy lovers, I have to say, I can't share my love the way you guys do. (Rant time!)

Though I do have the 3rd most time played as Spy, I only resort to him when I can't stand the friggin sentries AND sticky bombs stacked up all over the control point. (Valve needs to reduce sticky bomb cheapness as well, LIKE, kills your teammates too.) Though the butterfly knife is a very enjoyable melee weapon, I don't like the suicidalness of it. Once you stab someone, they'll know, and they'll start spychecking everyone. Not only that, but in the time when you sap the sentry, you're the main target. By the time the sentry is repaired, you're dead, the sentry is intact, and the engineer is dancing on your balaclava-adorned head. Even worse with 2+ sentries stacked up.

Demoman too. GOSH, I can't stand him. Stickys AND sentries are terrible in unison. I try to avoid using sentries or stickies directly on control point/intelligence to avoid the cheapness of it all. (Or I least, I call it that.) It's especially annyoing when my whole team is comprised of Engineers and Demomen littering the area with their putrid spawn, and the opposition is doing likewise, and I'm the only one ACTUALLY doing any kind of offense.

If you're reading this Valve, tone down the Engineer. Or at the very least, power up the Spy a little bit. Please?

Sniper is meh, no speed drop and no trait that makes you go "is this a Spy." Usually if Snipers are around the front lines though they have their machine pistol out as the rifle doesn't do them much good up close, that and that Snipers tend to hang back, behind rocks, buildings, etc. Running around will draw some suspicion.
I disagree - On Dustbowl, I once stabbed an Engineer, sapped his sentry, then donned the Sniper, and held back, acting Sniperish up on the watertower. Rinse and repeat. If you're inconspicuous, no one should take notice.

Oh, and for any 360 owners, howzabout putting up your gamertags, if you feel so inclined. Mine's "Fluctuations".

i play tf2 all the time on my ps3. indust bowl and granery (my favorite maps) i normally play as a engineer, but in all of the other maps i normally a solider/ demoman/ spy.

I'll add my name for my PS3 user if you want to add me as a friend so we can battle on the internet, even though I don't have my wireless router right now, I'll get it back eventually and add you. My username is Pirahna-Plantman

Personally, I'm a Medic. Part of the reason is so that I can still do my job decently on my shitty computer, but half of it's just simply because I enjoy being a Medic.

Although it doesn't seem like the funnest job on paper, being the Medic means you're the guy everyone goes to. You have to power to decide when the teams going to try to break through those four Sentrys or when you want to rush through that choke point. You also get quite a bit of action. The syringe gun is strangely useful against the lower HP units. I find Scouts and the like fall quite quickly to it, expecially when they aren't expecting the Medic to put up any resistance.

I played TF2 all the time on the PC as a Heavy. Then my PC fried, the video card burned out, and im back to my GeForce 440 w/ mmxblahblahblah, so i don't have the Pixel Shader support to play TF2 OR Portal OR Half Life Ep 2 :(

Heavies are good fun though. Even when not being Uber'd you feel freaking invincible, and this bravado generally leads you to ignore your own safety and shoot until your death.
