Team Fortress 2 - The Official Discussion Thread

So depending on the next few minutes it seems like Mr Esc may have to sit out of the Scrim due to Gallbladdery reasons. They are quite deadly and are out to destroy us all.

Otherwise T-Pup and Myself should be there and have someone else who can join in Esc's place of needed.

ff my dad has the computer doing some update and it looks like it wont be done before ill be able to get on for this

total bullshit considering i was the one trying to get this going but theres really nothing i can about it, sorry ;(

Should I make an announcement telling people to join chat if they want to scrim and see if we can field six people? Otherwise, do we want to schedule something for a later date so that people can have more notice and plan accordingly?

Sorry guys. I'm currently in the Hospital, and I will be for the next day. Slated for the Operating Room tomorrow afternoon to take out my Gallbladder.

I will definitely try to make a scrim at a later date, but this thing totally came out of nowhere.

I'm here and I'm always up for playing if you guys just need a sixth again and don't mind my only being able to listen. :/

hahaha. that is pretty cool.

*some forum whore*
IMBALANCED IMBALANCED!

Is anyone else up for a scrim on Monday? I should be free for most of the afternoon, how does 8 PM GMT sound for everyone? If we can get enough people who are willing to commit to that time, we could try to pre-arrange a scrim with another team instead of spending 30 minutes in #tf2scrim trying to find one.

I should be fine for that, Kiku. Sorry again for missing the last one you guys set up. In related news, I'm going to be in #TF2.smogon pretty much constantly if you guys need to reach me, seeing as I idle in irc typically.

Well, we just finished up a scrim (5-1 on badlands and 1-5 on granary). I think that we did well on badlands, although we did have a couple minor issues. There were several times when the opposing team took mid and we were all hanging back on the spire/battlements when we could have been pushed up to yard/choke. Also, there were several times when we were getting ready to push the last point and were all bottled up on the second floor, where we would sometimes get flanked or eat too much spam. I think that the best thing to do in that situation is to have each person watch a potential entrance. (Example: Demoman stickies right side, one soldier watches ramp while other watches front, and scouts watch the two entrances to the battlements.)

I think that we need to find a lineup for granary that works better for us and maybe plan things ahead better next time. Having the medic and soldiers go up the right side seems to work best from my experience; demo can go up the right side and use the medium health in the house and the small health in the garage to get to mid. It's pretty common for teams on granary to get bottled in the back corner, so maybe having a jarate sniper go up the right side to capitalize on that might be a good idea. Or, we could try pushing out the right side with kritzkrieg. Maybe even try to get some FaN scouts onto the crates and have them try to block any soldiers attempting to rocket jump onto the crates. We could even try running a heavy as part of the regular lineup for granary. We did do some mixing around mid game, but a lot of it was improvised and it didn't seem to work so well.

We were waiting around an hour before we actually found a scrim partner, I think that our problem may have been that we were trying to start too early (3 PM EST). The scrim channel really started picking up at around 4:30 PM EST, so that might be a better time to look for a scrim if we do this in the future.

Do we want to make this a weekly occurrence? Monday afternoons generally work well for me. Also, do we have any preferred maps? I personally am a huge fan of badlands, and gravelpit can also be fun.

Badlands, Gravelpit, Yukon, Follower, Freight, and Well are all good for me. Turbine is fine if you guys want, as well. Not a fan of Granary :/

uh im going to get my mic to work better in the meantime.
Every Monday would work for me. Today was a bit early, so definitely would prefer doing it at 4:30 to 3.

Great games everyone.

oh, and the password if you want to spectate or you lose connection (stoo) will most likely always be Smogon.

Sigh.

With the update today, Valve took away a Tyrants Helm I acquired legitly ingame.

Good work valve. Good work.

Yeah I idled, never got a hat from it though :S

Enjoy not being able to cloak as spy. ^_^
EDIT: Also, http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=17095240&postcount=1289

Awesome skin :P

From what I understand, they didn't actually selectively remove items from your inventory, they just rolled it back to what it looked like prior to your idling and then gutted it of anything you had removed since then. If you idled and then got a hat legitimately, you lost it. I was fortunate enough to have gotten two hats before I started idling, so I got to keep both of them.

It really sucks for anyone who deleted their original backpack items after getting dupes via the idler. Back when weapons had random levels, the idler had a function that allowed you to keep high-level drops and delete the original from your backpack to make room for it. I know some people who used this function and it gradually replaced almost all of their items with idled dupes, now they're left with (mostly) empty backpacks. I feel sorry for all of the people who don't have a blutsauger and kritzkrieg, especially those who already got the milestone achievements since they now have no means of obtaining them.

Anyway, the drop rate for hats has tripled, so I guess that's nice.

man am i glad i never bothered with the idler after getting my batters helmet like 10 hours into the spy vs sniper update (ridiculous luck, considering scout is my most played/best class). so this is nothing but good news for me, as bad as it is for everyone who got stuff legitimately and lost it :(

also im down for the new time, and will hopefully get a new mic if this becomes a weekly thing (batman will have to wait, sadly)

edit: new hat for those who didnt idle?? sweet

Any of you guys involved with the X360 community of this game?

I'm trading in about 15 games and this is one of the games that I have my eye on, suggestions?

I wouldn't bother. They don't update the 360 version that often and I heard finding legit games is a pain. You could rent it for awhile and find out before hand though.

P.S. I have so much school work I haven't even set up my gaming computer after my move to my new apartment. I do have internet there so when I have a weekend off (oh hey, look this weekend is a 3 day), then I'll try and jump back into scrims with you guys.

Well, Spy is my second least played class besides Sniper, so I don't really care about any cloaking issues. Actually, since you can equip the halo on multiple characters, I'll just take it off for the spy. Problem solved.

Stoo, get a mic :V

To be honest I've never been a huge fan of wearing cosmetic items on classes that your team has multiples of, since it only serves to make you more identifiable to enemies. When someone yells out "soldier is low" and I'm looking at a soldier, there's only a 50/50 shot that the guy I'm looking at is the target being called. However, if someone calls "pothead soldier low," I can know with certainty whether I'm targeting the right guy. Also, if one scout ducks behind a corner and another one pops out a second later, there's no way to know whether there's one or two scouts behind that corner if they're identical. Ideally, both scouts and soldiers should be identical, and unless both were lucky enough to get the same hat, that means going hatless. I'm glad to have my soldier stash. I don't usually wear it, but if I'm playing with a soldier who does, it's nice for the sake of uniformity. (My other hat is the pickelhaube, which I can wear guilt free.)

In CS, you also had your choice of four different models, all functionally identical but cosmetically different, and teams would always choose the same model. Then people started using a specific model because it was thinner than the rest and you could get closer to corners without your model poking out. I wonder if people will stop using certain hats if/when they are discovered to be tactically inferior. The halo definitely seems to be a poor choice of hat as it makes you a more visible target in dark areas, especially against opposing snipers.

im gonna make a point to go into town on saturday and get something to last me until christmas, when i can replace my old good mic!
