Team Fortress 2

TF2 is easily my favourite game of the year. I've played Bioshock, Halo 3, CnC3, and most everything else that was supposed to be awesome, but nothing came close to being as entertaining as TF2. The cartoonish graphics, combined with unique classes, crazy weapons, and limitless possibilities. If you do not know The Orange Box yet, I highly suggest you buy it. Possibly the best bundle game package ever, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. I am struggling to think of a better way to spend $60, unless you're a relatively open-minded individual wandering around an alley in Bangkok.

Seriously though, ITT discuss TF2. The game was released with only 6 maps, however more are planned to be released in a few months time. Each of the maps plays differently and has a completely different feel though, so it's not too big an issue. The game is an FPS, you have 2 teams (red and blue) fighting against each other, and you can choose from nine different classes.

Scout: My favourite class, you have the fastest move speed and the ability to "double-jump", but this is balanced out by weaker weapons (Shotgun, Glock and Aluminum Bat) and low HP.

Soldier: Fairly Slow-moving, with moderate HP, your main weapon is a rocket launcher, which you can fire at the ground below you to perform a "rocket jump". Also you have a Shotgun and a Shovel.

Pyro: One of the more fun classes in the game, you're armed with a Flamethrower, a Shotgun and a Fire axe. Slow moving with fairly high HP, you're only really a threat up close.

Heavy Weapons Guy: Slowest moving, highest HP, the HWG's main weapon is the massive machine gun slung around his shoulder; he also has a Shotgun and uses his fists for melee.

Engineer: With a shotgun, pistol and Wrench, the main purpose of the engineer is to build things. You can build Dispensers, which can give ammo and HP to allied units, turrets which shoot enemies and teleporter entrances/exits which can be used by your teammates. Very versatile defensive class.

Demo Man: You have a Grenade Launcher, a Remote Mine Launcher and a bottle of Booze. Grenades are great for shooting around corners, and Remote mines can be planted anywhere you know the enemy will be.

Medic: You have a chainsaw, a... healing gun, and a.... rapid-fire needle shooting gun. Your main job is to heal allied units, but your needle-gun thingy can do damage, too. If you heal enough HP, you gain a special ability called "uber". It allows you to make yourself and an ally invincible for a short period of time. Medics combined with HWGs are extremely annoying.

Sniper: You have a sniper rifle, a sub-machine gun and a machete. Obviously much more effective from long ranges. Not much to explain.

Spy: One of the coolest classes, you have a Revolver, a butterfly knife and a "Sapper". Your revolver is a standard pistol, your knife will instantly kill anyone if you stab them in the back, and the sapper is used on enemy turrets, teleporters or dispensers. If the enginner doesn't remove the sap in time, the building will explode. Spies are also capable of cloaking themselves for a short period of time, and disguising themselves as enemy players. Disguise yourself as an enemy Soldier, sneak up behind your unsuspecting victim and stab him in the back!

Best game ever <3

I am soooo tempted to get this game. I haven't really got a PC game in years but my friends are all into it and it's being hyped so much on all the forums I go to. Endless praise.

The thing is, I'd rather have Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, and HL2: Episode 2 on 360, with Portal and Team Fortress 2 on PC. Portal looks impossible with dual analog and TF2 on 360 seems HORRIBLE (lagfest if 6v6 which is max as opposed to 8v8 on PC which is flawless). However, HL2 supposedly has improved graphics on the 360 and I prefer playing single player games on consoles.

I'm also really tempted to get the Orange Box. Question though: is it good for 360? And does it have any split-screen support?

Overall it seems like an excellent value, having practically 5 games for the price of 1. And it's been getting some awesome reviews as well.

My favorite classes are as follows.

Demoman: Easily my favorite, Defensive and Offensive, average HP and speed, and an amazing weapon combination.

Soldier: Hits hard and average and easy to use player

Spy: Not a fav but I use it alot with greas sucess when my team is hit and cant get things done

Engineer: For obvious defensive reasons.

From what I heard, get it on PC. Mostly because of Team Fortress 2:

PC
8 v 8 max (16 total)
Great netcode for lag-free experience

360
6 v 6 max (12 total)
Crappy netcode makes anything above 4v4 (8 players) laggy

And from what I hear TF2 is best played with lots of players so that each team has enough people on offense and defense.

From what I understand, it's more strategy with more people. And I see. Most of the impressions I've received are that it lags with a high amount of players on 360.

Meh, for me I'd have to get it on PC since all my friends are on PC. Not many people I know own a 360 =( All are on Wii.

Portal's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's also hella short. Like <10 hours of gameplay + no multiplayer. Honestly, I wouldn't bother getting Orange Box if you aren't playing TF2. The other games are cool, but TF2 is just amazing.

TF has always been and always will be better with 8-16 players per team. Our friend toy got it backwards. When you have less players, it's more tactic-/skill-oriented than it is strategy-oriented, whereas if you have 16 players on one team, no matter how good you are with a Scout, you're not going to be able to Rambo their team. While 5 on 5 is preferable for CS because of limited diversity in weaponry, player roles, and also because of map sizes, I think that when you have 9 different, very useable classes, like in TF, that it's better to have more players, allowing for more combinations and thus, more strategies. Sorry toy, but your logic is fail.

I can't see how it wouldn't be fun on 360 TBH, as long as they set it up right, and so-forth. I'd much rather play TF2 at an XBox party than Halo. I can't comment on the lag, though.
