Hello fellow Smogon members, this is my first RMT. This team has found very nice success in the standard metagame. PLZ RATE! *Special Thanks to giganinja for showing me how to do this*

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS:

I really wanted to base a team around Skarmory because of its stellar defence and its ability to set up spikes and SR.

Next i looked at Skarm's weaknesses: Fire and Ice are the ones that came to mind at first. Instantly i decided to use one of my favourite fire types: Infernape. I also decided to search for a water type. After a bit of digging and analysis, i decided to go with Suicune because of its bulk and access to CM.

After a closer look i also noticed skarm's electric weakness. First Hippowdon came to mind, but i wanted something with a bit of speed and a priority move, so after some searching and testing, i decided on using Mamoswine.

Next, i needed a status absorber, a cleric, and a counter to bulky water types , so i imediately went with Celebi.

I then worked on a lead. I wanted a lead to dish out damage right off the bat and be able to come back in late game to sweep. I didn't want to use Dragonite because it was slower than Mence, Weavile is to frail, and Lucario is destroyed by EQ. After digging a it deeper i went with Flygon.

IN DEPTH:

330flygon.png

EV's: 4HP 252Atk 252Spe
Nature: Jolly
Item: Choice Scarf
Moveset:
Earthquake
Outrage
Stone Edge
U-Turn

I ran a choice scarf on flygon and a jolly nature so it reaches 492 speed, which allows it to revenge kill many things late game and to be able to outspeed every pokemon in OU, bar Ninjask. EQ 2HKO's Meta, T-Tar, Heatran,, etc. Stone Edge 2HKO's Aero and basically hits everything EQ cant. Outrage deals with dragon types (ie: Latias, Mence, Dragonite) and U-Turn is for scouting.

473mamoswine.png

EV's: 252Atk 4Def 252Spe
Nature: Jolly
Item: Choice Band
Moveset:
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Superpower
Stone Edge

Ice Shard + EQ= Dents everything and they both get STAB. Superpower and Stone Edge are for coverage. Nuff said.

245suicune.png

EV's: 4HP 252Spe 252SpA
Nature: Timid
Item: Life Orb
Moveset:
Calm Mind
Surf
Ice Beam
Hidden Power[Electric]

Your standard Offensive CM Suicune. Switch into something it resists, fire off a couple of CM's and destroy your opponents team. Simple enough strategy, but Suicune's 85 base speed makes sweeping very difficult at times. Any suggestions on something better? I am looking for something with better speed, but still able to take a few hits.

251celebi.png

EV's: 232HP 32Spe 244SpA
Nature: Timid
Item: Leftovers
Moveset:
Energy Ball
Heal Bell
Recover
Thunder Wave

Argubaly the best member on the team, this is my status absorber as well as my cleric. Thunderwave cripples many things which makes sweeping with Suicunemuch easier. Timid nature allows me to reach 268 Speed with all i need to outspeed most bulky water types. Energy ball provides a reliable STAB and a counter to bulky water types. Although i used to use leaf storm, i dropped it because the lose of SpA was too much and i usually found myself lacking power to take out more bulky water types like Vaporeon or Milotic. Never the less this is really reliable and keeps my team healthy.

392infernape.png

EV's: 64Atk 192Spe 252SpA
Nature: Naive
Item: Life Orb
Moveset:
Close Combat
Fire Blast
Grass Knot
Hidden Power[Ice]

Your standard Specially based mixape. Close Combat kills Bilsssey, non-choiced scarfed heatrans, and a lot of other things. Fire Blast, STAB, self explanitory. Grass Knots owns Swampert and HP ice hits mence, latias, etc.

227skarmory.png

EV's: 252HP 64Atk 176Def 16Spe
Nature: Impish
Item: Leftovers
Moveset:
Spikes
Stealth Rock
Brave Bird
Roost

Standard Spiker, but i dropped taunt for SR the reason is because my team needs some serious entry hazourds, so i can quickly finish off my enemies with a choice banded STAB ice shard from Mamoswine. Brave Bird is STAB and in case i get taunted.

Well this wraps up my RMT.

Blissey fits with Skarm quite well.

It does both the jobs of Suicune and Celebi by taking all the Special Attacks aimed at Skarm and can also be a cleric for the team :D

Otherwise, pretty solid team. Well looking at it now, its really solid, except flygon, why is it there? ooo
well flygon's attacks arent very effective on most leads like ninjask and what not.

I think that instead of flygon as a lead use mamoswine. Because you don't need the stealth rock support, thanks to skarmory, you could probably get away with the choice bander and use the element of surprise to get a KO and gain momentum into the match. It still fulfills its roll but just comes in earlier in the match. Although it seems Mamoswine doesn't fare well against most leads it actually fares excellently once you've tested it a bit.

What to replace Mamoswine with? You probably have a better idea than me but I would suggest an Electivire to come in on electric attacks aimed at Skarmory and Suicune (Mixed or Physical set is up to you as both are similar). It also does an excellent job of clearing a path for your other pokemon. i would also give Skarmory a Shed Shell as it has roost to recover and Electivire can come into a Magnezone thunderbolt and KO with cross chop.

getting a bulky, fast sweeper to replace suicune is tough... maybe agiligross? it's got good typing and bulk, and after a turn it can do serious damage. check it's smogon page for the set

You could possibly replace suicune with BulkyGyra it can take some hits, set up, dragon dance and sweep. It also keeps the synergy that suicune had. A Swampert might work too but it is also pretty slow to be a sweeper

i've tried agiligross and i dont really think it will fit on my team, but BulkyGyara.......... i mite try that out.

This is solid, and it looks fun. Gyarados isn't going to do so great out there without a Spinner so keep with Suicune. And I don't think you need Spikes so much, whirlwind is probably better on Skarmory especially when you use Leftovers instead of Shed Shell, that way you can see the Magnezone beforehand with shuffling. Either switch the move or the item.

And I voted for Luke. I use an Agility set instead of the same old SD set.

Hi!

The first thing I noticed in this team is it's CBzor and SDluke weak. CBzor OHKO's Mamoswine with BP and Celebi with U-turn. Mamoswine trapped in Stone Edge would mean a free set-up for Lucario and Luke can get as much as 2 SD's, Mamoswine uses SE, Luke SD's, Mamoswine switches out, Luke get's another SD. Close Combat eliminates Skarmory, Suicune and Mamoswine. Extremespeed is for Flygon. Crunch is for Celebi if Scizor is knocked out earlier in the game.

I agree with Crimsonhaze14, replacing Suicune with a fast sweeper or a revenge killer as Salamence can also pose as a threat here. I highly suggest Jirachi, ScarfJirachi. Use the given set below if you like to use it.

Jirachi@Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EV: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Jolly Nature
- Ice Punch
- Thunderpunch
- Fire Punch
- Iron Head

Those elemental punches solves your problems. Ice Punch is for Salamence and other Dragon-types, Thunderpunch for Gyarados and other bulky-water, Fire Punch for steel-types especially for Lucario and Scizor and Iron Head is to annoy your opponent by Flinch-Haxing them to death. Replace it with Suicune. Trust me on this one.
I hope this helps! Good Luck!!

Flygon isn't a very effective lead since it doesn't perform well against the most used leads. I really think that you shouldn't use Flygon as your lead since it is also your best way of dealing with Scarf Tyranitar which outspeeds your whole team except for Flygon, so you might want him to stick around a bit in case Scarf-Tar appears later in the match. A more effective lead than Flygon would be Infernape as it sets up Stealth Rock from the beggining of the match which frees up a slot on Skarmory who shouldn't be the one setting up SR with the abundance of Pokemon that are capable of using it. Here's the Infernape set, that I reccomend you use as a lead:

Infernape @ Focus Sash | Blaze
Naive | 64 Atk / 252 SpAtk / 192 Spe
Fire Blast | Stealth Rock | Fake Out | Close Combat / Grass Knot / Encore

Since CM Suicune (CroCune) is one the biggest threat to this team, being able to setup with ease and sweep without any retaliation. So, since Infernape now sets up SR, I would suggest using Taunt on Skarmory in that slot. With the SpDef investments and Taunt, CroCune will no longer be a problem. Taunt is also useful to setup Spikes against slower foes.

I have another suggestion regarding Skarmory, and that is to change it's nature to Careful, the reason why I am telling you to do so is that with 176 SpDef EVs and a Careful Nature, you get a jump point in SpDef, an extra point which maximizes overall bulkiness.

Your team seems to have problems dealing with special attackers such as Rotom-A, Latias, Gengar and Starmie. Rotom-A is a huge threat and you will surely encounter it as it is very common. Overheat takes care of Mamoswine who can't do anything back, Thunderbolt disposes of Suicune, Skarmory and Infernape, and Shadow Ball hits the rest pretty hard. Latias is also a threat to this team especially a LO version, similarly to LO Starmie and LO Gengar. Every member of your team is KOed by the appropriate move. Flygon can revenge kill, but it must resort to lock it self onto Outrage and can be taken down easily after that, and they can just switch out as soon as Flygon enters, so a better check is needed.

In order to deal with those threats, the best thing you can do is replace Mamoswine with a Scarf Tyranitar. Mamoswine wasn't really necessary on this team since Salamence is already handled pretty well by Suicune and Flygon. The priority isn't needed because of the presence of Flygon as a revenge killer. His typing wasn't very useful to the team it self since it is similar to Flygon and adds to your x3 Fire weakness. The fact that your Mamoswine descriptions are lacking just shows that it doesn't bring much to the table. Tyranitar on the other hand checks those Special attackers using Pursuit / Crunch and seems to fit the team. Here's the set:

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf | Sandstream
Jolly | 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Earthquake | Stone Edge | Crunch | Pursuit

The only downside of TTar is SS. However, this is a minor issue since it can be easily fixed by using Leftovers over LO on Suicune so that it isn't worn down too fast. Also, offensive Suicune doesn't need max speed, just use this EV spread: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe which allow Suicune to outspeed max speed Adamant Lucario and Timid max speed Heatran and 252 HP is for maximum bulk to take hits from both sides of the attacking spectrum and the rest is poured into Def.

---

Here are the changes summarized:
  • Use Infernape as a lead instead of Flygon
  • Replace SR on Skarmory with Taunt
  • Use Scarf Tyranitar isntead of Mamoswine
  • Leftovers on Suicune instead of LO and change the EV spread.
Good team. Hope this helps.

I disagree with Taunt Skarm, I really have no idea why CroCune will give you trouble seeing as how it can't hit Celebi or Suicune for anything but NVE, and your own Suicune can set up on it no problem. And You'd be better off with Suicune using Rest or Calm Mind on Skarmory opposed to forcing it to actually attack you.

On Suicune I would keep the set and just change the item to Leftovers. You can fake like you're running the bulky set, which could end up getting you an extra calm mind off, and the ability to regain health is always good as it adds some durability. After a Calm Mind you're still doing a massive amount of damage, so you're not really gonna miss out on too much fire power, and you're gonna be able to stay in the game longer, I'm currently using this to much success and would suggest you try it out as well. Worst case scenario I would suggest running a shuffle cune to help spread SR and Spikes damage.

Andddd, I dunno how much you'd like this suggestion, but what would you think of a CB Swampert of a lead, it's rather unexpected and definitely does a lot of damage. You don't need an SR lead since your Skarmory has it already...and it still gives you a thunder resist. The only thing you lose on is a Priority move...but with a Scarf Flygon and a Celebi that can spread around status like no other, im not exactly sure how much you'd need a priority move. That's really all I have to say, I'll check back in. Good luck with the team, have a nice day.
