Team Ginger

If you're good with anagrams, ignore any you find in the title, merely a coincidence. Alright so it’s my first time posting on here, so I'm just going to get right at it.

Who's that Pokemon?!

250px-Allegra%27s_Infernape.png

Infernape (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 64 Atk/192 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock

Gliscor was doing fine as a lead, but that was about it. it was nearly useless in the late game when it couldn't attack effectively, having earthquake as its only attacking move, and was basically walled. it was slower than some of the troublesome leads, including other gliscor leads. so in an attempt to fix this, I moved infernape to the lead spot with the leadape set. it works just fine, using fake out to break sashes and check for switches, has always gotten stealth rock up and isn't completely useless late game. the worst thing I can think of about this set is the accuracy of fire blast, but the increase of power compared to flamethrower has saved me on occasion.

Some common leads:
Aerodactyl - I haven't faced one yet with infernape so I've yet to test out what to do here.

Azelf - Fake out then fire blast as they set up. unless they're setting up rain, they die quickly.

Heatran - Fake out to see what switches in then react accordingly.

Hippowdon - Fake out, just for good measure really, it's pretty useless here. fire blast is a 2hko if it manages to hit both times.

Infernape - I haven't faced another infernape lead so I don't know, but likely fake out and set up rocks.

Jirachi - Fake out, fire blast if it stays in, react accodingly if it switches.

Mamoswine - Fake out and fire blast ko's it.

Metagross - Fake out to see who they switch to. if they don't switch, it's holding an occa berry instead of a shuca berry and I switch.

Roserade - Fake out to break the sash, fire blast if it stayed in.

Smeargle - Fake out then switch to either gengar for trick, or gyarados for spore. sucks when I predict wrong.

Swampert - Bit of a problem. fake out then switch to latias.

Tyranitar - Fake out to see if it switches. if not, close combat then set up rocks.

Metagross @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 112 HP/252 Atk/12 Def/132 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Agility
- Earthquake
- Meteor Mash
- Thunderpunch

Agiligross is so much more useful than nasty plot infernape. I've been able to 5-0 teams with him, and several times he's taken out entire teams, being the only one who hasn't fainted on my team. it's generally easy to switch in, especially on something like Flygon stuck in outrage. from there it's set up and sweep. the recovery from leftovers was chosen over life orb because I prefer having metagross stay in longer than hit harder but go down much easier. only problem pokemon here are the rotom formes, gliscor and zapdos, but they can be worked around.

200px-Latias_2.png

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 128 HP/252 Spd/128 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Recover
- Roar

Defensive calm mind latias has saved the team a few times, having enough resistances to switch in and start setting up and being able to phaze our curselax. I originally had hidden power [fire] over roar to take out scizor who tried to pursuit or use a bug move, but curselax had proven to be a huge issue. if there is another place roar can fit on this team so I can put back hp [fire], I'd love to know where. Recover is handy for stalling a bit and generally recovery, and dragon pulse is a reliable STAB.

210px-Gyarados_2.jpg

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Sleep Talk
- Rest

My main switch in to Salamence and other Gyarados, ResTalk Gyarados has been probably the most used member of my team. It has been able to survive +1 stone edge from both Salamence and Gyarados, while it KO’s them then heals with rest. He has never under preformed when needed, but I’m not entirely happy with him. Being the only member with sleep talk, he is the one that surprisingly absorbs sleep moves. However since hypnosis is used much less now it’s accuracy is now 60, he tends to be only absorbing sleep powder and spore from Roserade and Breloom respectively. This is a bit of a problem because he doesn’t have ice fang or bounce, and both sleepers have neutral STAB moves against him. That aside, it is easier to use him because most people assume that I’ll start using dragon dance and will be completely screwed if I'm statused. There is one unfortunate problem restalk and dd gyara share and that’s taunt, but it’s easily worked around for the most part.

Misty%27s_Starmie_Water_Gun.png

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 136 HP/156 Def/216 Spd
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Recover
- Surf
- Thunderbolt

Starmie is pretty decent. it can come in on other starmie using surf or ice beam, take the thunderbolt and recover off the damage after beating them with thunderbolt. I like that it's fairly bulky, but there are times when more speed and more power would be really useful. I don't feel this team really needs a spinner, with only gyarados weak to stealth rock and toxic spikes affecting only infernape [because of natural cure]. I don't want to use a choice starmie, but a life orb set may be a good replacement.

200px-Morty%27s_Gengar.jpg

Gengar (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt

Gengar is so much more useful than rotom was. I needed something that hit hard an fast without getting locked into a move and becoming pursuit bait. scizor and tyranitar switch in and just faint from hp [fire] and focus blast respectively. latias and slower rotoms can't handle shadow ball usually, and thunderbolt is great for bulky water types. I don't want to put a scarf on gengar, but like with the previous team, fast shadow ball users have been rampaging this team. nothing resists ghost and half the team is weak to it. I think putting a normal type on the team, who isn't blissey, would be beneficial, but I don't know who to replace.
---

After all these changes, the team is working much better. it is still very weak to faster pokemon that have shadow ball/thunderbolt, but I have doubts about blissey working well on this team. putting roar on something else would also be great, since latias really needs hp [fire].

Gliscor
Infernape
Nidoqueen
Gyarados
E
mpoleon
R
otom-h

i c wut u did thar :D

But anyways, interesting team you've got here. However, I'm going to suggest you replace Nidoqueen for another revenge killer. One that can properly counter DDmence.

I suggest this:

Latias @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Timid nature (+Speed, -Attack)
~ Draco Meteor
~ Surf
~ Thunderbolt
~ Trick
This will also help you revenge kill DDGyara in case Rotom gets pursuited in the common T-tar/Gyara offensive combination. You can also outspeed +1 Salamence after a DD and revenge kill him with Draco Meteor. And finally, with this amount of speed being run, you outrun Agility Empoleon after it uses Agility and can take it out with Thunderbolt.

Hope this helps!

Lol, i love anagrams. I wish my team had one that made since :P
anyway, nice to see another fan of gliscor leads!. If empoleon is too slow, agility can replace HP electric. Also, you could replace surf with hydro pump to feel a little safer against magnezone. Diffenetly stick with rotom-h i replaced my gengar with him and never looked back.

someone sees what I did there :'D

so I'm testing out the above changes, latias is doing great on the team. there are times when it really sucks not having nidoqueen though, mainly when scizor comes in on empoleon. speaking of which, empoleon is a bit lackluster without the specs. shes not doing much damage to anything really. and like before, rotom is still underachieving and with latias, theres more ghost/dark weak scarfers on the team.

thoughts about swapping rotom for gengar and empoleon for another special attacker or steel type. maybe lucario or magnezone?

i'd consider magnezone with hp fire to replace empoleon ove lucario because he is the ultimate scizor trapper. Just make sure you ev him to outspeed common scizor spreads so you don't get superpowered in the face. If rotom isn't working out, try Gengar out if you want more special power.

Lol, anagrams..

Anyways, to the team. I think you're team would be much better off getting up Toxic Spikes early in the match, so I'd suggest switching Nidoqueen for a more reliable Toxic Spikes setupper and Sleeper, Roserade, and switching Roserade into the lead spot with Gliscor. Heres the set:

Roserade @ Focus Sash
Timid Nature
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

~ Sleep Powder
~ Toxic Spikes
~ Leaf Storm / Grass Knot
~ Hidden Power Fire

With Sleep Powder you can sleep any slower lead and get up Toxic Spikes quick and easy. HP Fire helps deal with Metagross leads and gives type coverage. Leaf Storm or Grass Knot helps deal with leads in case you get taunted, and gives you a strong STAB attack. If you're annoyed with the bad speed IVs from HP Fire, go HP Ice to hit dragons switching in.

Then move Gliscor to Nidoqueen's spot if you take my suggestion; he still makes a nice complement to Empoleon.

If you're thinking of replacing Empoleon, you can go with the faster Agility SubPetaya set:

Empoleon @ Petaya Berry
Modest Nature
12 HP / 12 Def / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
~ Agility
~ Substitute
~ Surf
~ Ice Beam / Grass Knot

This set makes a deadly late-game sweeper that also benefits greatly from Toxic Spikes (one of the reasons I like Roserade in the lead) Since you have Grass Knot on Ape to deal with Swampert, I'd recommend you go with Ice beam on the last slot.

I'd keep Rotom-H as a nice revenge killer and check to Scizor. Unless you run a MysticGar set, I don't see why to change it. I also wouldn't recommend Magnezone, you have plenty of Scizor counters on the team and it would just be redundant.

Good luck with the team!

after changing empoleon to the subagilipetaya set, and replacing nidoqueen with scarf latias, I was able to 5-0 an opponent. but that's where the good changes end. I've lost every match after that :/

typcally I get walled by cresslia or crocune, or being out predicted, switching gliscor into thunderbolt aimed at empoleon just to eat an ice beam instead. the latter is largely my fault, but I don't think that my team hits hard enough, fast enough. gengar and starmie still give me loads of trouble, so I'm making a few changes and testing them out.

first, I'm replacing rotom with gengar, filling the same role, just faster and stronger. I'm also replacing empoleon with a bulky starmie set. gliscor will be replaced by metagross, so there's at least one steel type and a powerful lead. finally, I'm going to use a calm mind latias and see how things go from there.

changes made.
as for CBtar, it hasn't been a problem. gyarados can handle it, if infernape is still up she can too.
metagross and gengar have also been able to handle them with meteor mash and focus blast respectively.

what you need to do is replace your orriginal post. that way anyone who comes to rate your team will see your actual team, not something that has been discarded. and yes, you need a discription. btw, I'm just glancing over your team right now, but your only answer to TTar is Gyarados. Infernape can't really do it since he's going down relatively quickly being a lead. otherwise CB TTar can rip you to pieces.

the lack of electric, ghost and dark resistance on this team has been a bit of a let down, but I'm not too sure how to fix it. only steelix, magnezone, cacturne and shiftry resist those three types and none of them really stand out :/

-one week later-

this team is doing pretty good. agiligross and calm mind latias have been able to sweep after getting set up, but im still having troube with things like rotom and jolteon, and most things that learn shadow ball and thunderbolt. there arent many resistances on this team either, and its hard to switch around. metagross and latias can only take so many hits before they faint. when gyarados faints, gengar is my main switch in to scizor, thats how bad this team is with resisting. what can i do to improve my team?
