Team Pesado de la Republica

Okay, so my last two teams turned out pretty well. I won the majority of my matches, both on DS and on shoddy, but I crave more, still. Thus, I am making here, another attempt at bulky offense, to much success in its testing. I present: Team Pesado de la Republica! Otherwise known as the heavyweight team of the republic.

I am always, ALWAYS looking for a lead that will give me the advantage the majority of the time. This time around, I figured I'd try and make a lead that would not only give me an advantage early on, but help me late game by being a sturdy player. After thinking up various team combinations, I came up with:

PKMN_Gliscor_by_rosa_pegasus.png

Gliscor @ Leftovers "Chupacabra"
Jolly
Sand Veil
252 HP/40 attk/216 spe
-Roost
-Stealth Rock
-Taunt
-Earthquake

Effective at not only shutting down most SR leads, Gliscor is also extremely effective at setting down rocks, aw well as being a sturdy pokemon for later on with Roost. Earthquake for a powerful STAB Ground move that 2HKOs most Metagross, as well as dealing massive damage to other steel types. Taunt is for effectively shutting down SR users such as Hippowdon, only taking about 50% damage even if it carries Ice Fang. Otherwise, he is generally good mid-late game, as I use him to scout out T-waves and lure HP Ice.

Next, I contested what would be a good member for a team with a Gliscor lead. Sand Veil, I thought to myself...in went:

tyranitar.jpg

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf "Poder"
Jolly
Sand Stream
4HP / 252 attk/252 spe
-Stone Edge
-Crunch
-Pursuit
-Superpower

Tyranitar surprises many. Including myself, who was on a receiving end of this powerful scarfed Ttar. Basically, it acts of something of a revenge killer and at the same time, functioning similarly to a CB Ttar in that it will come in on Latias, Rotom, Starmie and others and easily OHKO them. Pursuit if I'm positive they will switch, and obviously Crunch if they might stay in, easily OHKOing them either way.

Obviously, I had a water weakness. This IS Team Pesado, so time to get to the bulk. To me, there was no better Pokemon that fits here than:

vaporeon.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers "Cascada"
Bold
Water Absorb
188 HP/ 252 def / 68 spe
-Surf
-Wish
-Protect
-Roar

This Vaporeon sports a cool 448 HP, as well as a good amount of defense on both ends. She is the reason why I can have both Gliscor and Ttar on this team without fearing Water, as well as why Gliscor doesn't have Roost. A superb Wishpasser, Vaporeon is huge to my teams success, whether it be tanking, taking down foolish Gyarados staying in, scouting moves via Protect, or Wishpassing, Vaporeon is becoming a staple of my teams. Roar over HP Electric on Vaporeon, simply because I deem it necessary to stop Crocune in its tracks. It also still works against DD Gyara, and to be quite honest, most Gyara will switch when they see a Vaporeon, predicting an HP Electric.
Next, I wanted something that could work with Vaporeon. After thinking through it, I decided on:

251Celebi.png

Celebi @ Leftovers "Pequenito"
Modest
Natural Cure
232 HP/ 244 sp.A/32 spe
-Thunder Wave
-Leaf Storm
-Recover
-Hidden Power(Fire)

An awesome Celebi set I came across through shoddy testing, Celebi cripples threats and introduces a new level of pain to the crippled threats with a STAB Leaf Storm, OHKOing most Ttar, who simply relishes the idea of switching in to Pursuit Celebi. HP fire to OHKO Scizor, who dominates the metagame nowadays, and Recover to replenish health. Rest is also an option, but I don't really want to be forced to switch if I wouldn't have to with Recover.

Next, I wanted something that hit HARD, and worked well with the team. I kind of wanted something that could set up and own face, so I came up with:
salamence.png

Salamence @ Life Orb "TROGDOR"
Naughty
232 attk/24 sp.A/252 spe
-Dragon Dance
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Fire Blast/Roost

The very personification of a hard hitter, an LO DDing Salamence is something feared by many teams. A +1 Life Orb Outrage is capable of 2HKOing every Pokemon in OU bar select Steel-types, such as physically defensive Skarmory. Earthquake is required to break through grounded Steel-types, such as Metagross and Heatran, who resist Outrage. Finally, Fire Blast handles Scizor, Forretress, and Skarmory, all of whom Earthquake only hits for neutral damage. Occasionally, I will swap Fire Blast for Roost simply because I like my Salamence to last. After he makes his first or second appearance, he is unlikely to make a third one thanks to residue damage.

One of my favorite Pokemon, Salamence is easily becoming an important staple of my teams.

A brilliant suggestion of Snorlaxe's, I tested Magnezone in the last slot to MUCH success. Here it is:
magnezone.png

Magnezone @ Leftovers "HAXOR"
Modest
Magnet Pull
172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
-Thunderbolt
-Magnet Rise
-Substitute
-Hidden Power(Ice)

Magnezone is the newest addition to my team, and an excellent one at that. Easily coming in on after a steel is lured to Tyranitar, it is unbelievably easy to set up a sub, and laugh as my opponent sends out a Swampert, Salamence, Heracross, etc. Magnet Rise behind a sub causes many of Magnezones counters and checks to rip their hair out(if they had any), as Magnezone chuckles and gets behind another sub to start sweeping.

Ex members of the team:

485heatran.jpg

Heatran @ Leftovers "Caliente"
Modest
Flash Fire
252 HP / 16 SpA / 240 SpD
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power/Roar
-Will-O-Wisp
-Substitute

453.png

Lucario @ Life Orb
Jolly
Inner Focus
-Swords Dance
-Close Combat
-Extremespeed
-Ice Punch

Threat list on the way:

Threat List: (stolen from Jabba’s thread which was stolen from KG's thread):

Defensive Threats:

Ani242MS.png
Blissey – Assume T-Wave, go to Gliscor. After this, I predict an Ice Beam and go to Tyranitar, play from there.
Ani437MS.png
Bronzong – These still exist? Taunt shuts down leads. Otherwise, this is a great Poke for Magnezone to set up on.
Ani251MS.png
Celebi – Scout out the set using Celebi. If it is of the non CM variant, paralyze and switch to Tyranitar.

Ani488MS.png
Cresselia –Tyranitar. It can't do much to Magnezone either behind a sub.
Ani477MS.png
Dusknoir- Scout out Will-O using Celebi; paralyze and take paltry damage or none if paralysis strikes. After this, bring out Magnezone and set up. Tyranitar also works.

Ani205MS.png
Forretress – HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Magnezone fucks it over completely. Even if shed shell, thanks for the free sub.

Ani472MS.png
Gliscor – Vaporeon. Scout out potential Toxic with protect. Salamence enjoys non Ice Fang variants for setting up.
Ani130MS.png
Gyarados - Magnezone behind a sub, although Gyara these days tend not to carry EQ. Scare away with Vappy, threatening HP Electric. Phaze with roar if non taunt. This usually comes in on Celebi, eating a tasty t-wave, crippling it.
Ani450MS.png
Hippowdon – Usually a lead. Taunt it, Ice Fang is just barely a 2HKO if it has it. Switch to Vappy and work from there.
Ani385MS.png
Jirachi – If lead: Switch to Ttar to take either Ice Punch or Trick. Work form there. Hax variants are destroyed by gliscor. Magnezone traps and sets up on non fire punch.

Ani479OMS.png
Rotom-A – Scout out Will-O using Celebi depending on what this switches into. Bring in Ttar, Crunch or pursuit. If it has no Overheat, Magnezone takes care of it.

Ani227MS.png
Skarmory – Salamence, Magnezone. Shut out with Gliscor.

Ani143MS.png
Snorlax – Tyranitar. Gliscor owns curse variants with taunt, Vappy phazes, Magnezone can scout of Fire Punch. If it doesn't have it, Magnet Rise and do work.

Ani245MS.png
Suicune – Tricky, but Magnezone generally owns it. Phaze out with Vappy, or Paralyze early on with Celebi and Leaf Storm.
Ani260MS.png
Swampert –Go to Celebi on leads, not risking the Ice Beam. Otherwise, Celebi kills non leads as well, and Magnezone loves setting up on this while it fruitlessly tries EQ.

Ani248MS.png
Tyranitar –Tyranitar on a predicted Crunch, etc. Likes to come in to Celebi, but Celebi KO's with Leaf Storm and cripples it on the switch, generally.
Ani134MS.png
Vaporeon – Magnezone, Celebi, roar away with vappy to deal with it later.
Ani145MS.png
Zapdos - Tyranitar usually kills it with Stone Edge. Otherwise, if it doesn't have Heat wave, Magnezone can play it. Usually Scout heat wave first, then work from there if Ttar is fainted.
Offensive Threats:

Ani482MS.png
Azelf – Mostly leads. Gliscor loses to taunt variants, obviously. Thus, I switch to Tyranitar and OHKO with Crunch or Pursuit on a predicted flee.
Ani286MS.png
Breloom – I hate this thing, but Celebi acts as a perfect counter. Gliscor can shut it down using Taunt. It can't do much to Salamence, either.

Ani395MS.png
Empoleon- Magnezone wrecks it, Vaporeon walls it and roars it away.
Ani094MS.png
Gengar – Predict its move and work from there. Bring in Ttar on predicted HPs and Shadow Ball/ Psychic for the OHKO.

Ani130MS.png
Gyarados – Vaporeon loves toying with it, as Gyara is afraid of HP elec. Magnezone can deal with non EQ, and can deal with EQ if it got in a MR. Ttar can revenge kill using Stone Edge it I don't let it DD. Otherwise, it can be trouble.

Ani485MS.png
Heatran – Vaporeon. Protect on a predicted explosion since it loves doing it to vappy, or roar it away. Or surf for the KO. Non scarfed get killed by Ttar and Gliscor.

Ani392MS.png
Infernape –Tricky. Normally, send it Salamence and scout HP Ice. If no HP ice, DD up and sweep. Vappy can wall, normally.

Ani135MS.png
/
Ani243MS.png
Jolteon/Raikou – Ttar, normally. Gliscor can deal with non HP Ice easily.

Ani380MS.png
Latias –Predict around it. Choice specs use Draco Meteor and get set up on my Magnezone. Ttar can revenge kill

Ani230MS.png
Kingdra –Annoying as fuck. Phaze it out using Vappy, or stay with whoever is in and try to kill it. Normally gets crippled by celebi and Leaf Stormed into oblivion. Big trouble if I get outpredicted.

Ani448MS.png
Lucario – Ttar can revenge kill. Its dead if it switches into Magnezone, I'm behind a sub about to KO it using Tbolt. Gliscor rox its' socks. 'Nuff said.

Ani068MS.png
Machamp –Very annoying, damn Dynamicpunch. Scout Ice Punch and if no Ip let Gliscor deal. I can bring out sala to weaken it and switch to vappy to roar it away, predicted Ice punch/Stone Edge.
Ani462MS.png
Magnezone – Celebi, Tyranitar. Gliscor and Salamence if no HP Ice.

Ani473MS.png
Mamoswine- Vaporeon is my main go to here. Wish as it switches. If not, kill it with Surf. If it switches into Magnezone it can't do much, I'll have support of Magnet Rise. Superpower sucks, but I'm assuming Ice Fang on most.
Ani376MS.png
Metagross – Lead: Vaporeon. Celebi can cripple. Most lead Metagross don't invest in much speed, so Magnezone can set up. Choiced: Magnezone, Vaporeon.
Ani373MS.png
Salamence - Vaporeon, Celebi cripples, Ttar can revenge kill if it doesn't get a DD.

Ani212MS.png
Scizor –Lawl. HP fire OHKO's, and Magnezone loves it. Vaporeon can wall those locked onto BP, and phaze SD variants.
Ani121MS.png
Starmie – Ttar can revenge kill, or come in on a Tbolt. Magnezone can take a hit even from LO and KO with Tbolt.

Ani248MS.png
Tyranitar – Ttar revenge kills. Celebi cripples this common switch in and KO's with Leaf Storm.

Ani461MS.png
Weavile – Vaporeon. Magnezone on CB variants.

Ani145MS.png
Zapdos – Ttar and Stone Edge. Magnezone can take non Heat wave variants, and I don't see it doing much to Salamence without HP Ice.

Fire Blast/Flamethrower > Magma Storm on Heatran in my opinion. Magma Storm has 70% accuracy, which you really shouldn't be relying on as your STAB. You've got a 49% chance that it hits twice in a row, which is obviously not in your favor. Fire Blast is just as powerful with much better accuracy. Trapping foes isn't really the best side-effect, because the only reason Pokemon will stay in against Heatran is if they think they can beat it, or else another Pokemon will switch in, expecting to beat it. Either way, the majority of the time, the Pokemon Heatran is attacking will be one your opponent thinks can beat it, and you will definately prefer accuracy > trapping in that situation.

It looks like SDLuke could give you some problems, but Gliscor and Tyranitar should be able to handle it. Since you're revealing the number one Luke counter in OU right away, a person looking to sweep with Luke will be trying to take out Gliscor from the start of the game. You may want to consider replacing something on Gliscor with Roost to aid in its survivability. Tyranitar takes a measly 29.9% - 35.2% from a +2 Extremespeed, but Tyranitar stuck in any attack other than Superpower (and even then, if you're at -1 Atk, you cannot OHKO a 100% 4 HP EV Lucario [1 HP left min]) is set up bait, and you'll have a hard time switching back in.

Other than those nitpicks, you've got a very nice team.

Magma Storm is necessary on the TrapTran to remove its counters.
Yes, the accuracy hurts; But the move isn't really meant to be used as primary Stab. It's used for his trapping side affect, which makes it easier to remove threats to his team, such as:
-Mence
-Swampert
-Latias (After Rocks)

Other than that, nice team.

Thanks for the rates, y'all. Looking back, and after much testing on Shoddy, I've realized that a SubTran with burn support in place of the TrapTran is much more effective in this team. I've also taken the liberty of placing Roar on Vaporeon as the last move. This is indefinitely useful, thwarting DD Gyara, Calm Cune, and others wishing to set up. The best part? People seldom expect it and continue to power up while I simply send them away.

I also find that without these changes, Crocune does a number on this team. Editing now, and possible threat list going up!

Well i havent done the damage calcs but I doubt that heatran can live a specs focus blast after switching into a shadow ball. But you might be right.I was surprised to find that thiers no complants about this team.Just look out for swampert and togekiss those two make me raise and eyebrow when I think of this team.

hello!

your team is currently lacking a resistance to rock type moves. this could cause some major problems as it makes switching into choice band tyranitar's stab boosted stone edge near impossible. while this team's synergy is very good in that salamence does have nice team support, i feel like the same team support could be achieved while still having a rock type resist. another problem i see is that a more conservative taunt + dragon dance + bounce + waterfall set can absolutely rape your team once vaporeon is koed, as really it does not struggle to set up on any of your pokemon barring vaporeon herself, and especially against tyranitar locked into the wrong move or salamence after it confuses itself with outrage. i can sorta see dragons and steels type teams being a problem (you know, those teams with like three dragon types and three steel types), in that they can weaken your team pretty handily with their nonstop attacks and type synergy. opposing dragon dance salamence can also do quite a number to your team in that your best bet against it is to roar it out with vaporeon (not really a safe thing to rely on at all) heatran is a nice partner for salamence in that it can easily remove steel type pokemon that may threaten to end salamence's sweep, but i feel like maybe some other pokemon could work better in that slot, namely a pokemon with a rock type resist.

if i were you, i would go for a steel killer magnezone set in place of heatran. yeah heatran is useful for its will-o-wisp and stab fire blast and its fire immunity and stuff, but your team totally wants a rock type resist (i think i mentioned that), as well as a pokemon that can benifit your other team members more easily. magnezone can trap and remove steel type pokemon like scizor and metagross that can otherwise switch in on most of your team really easily and cause them problems. tyranitar and celebi in particular struggle with magnezone's number one target, choice band scizor. anyway for magnezone use a set of thunderbolt | substitute | magnet rise | hidden power ice, an ev spread of 172 hp | 252 spa | 84 spe, and a modest nature with the item as leftovers and the ability "magnet rise". magnezone just really helps your team in general, and i feel that this set is the best choice to perform the role of team supporter for your team. hidden power ice is pretty nifty as it allows magnezone to kinda be a bitch to salamence. more often then not magnezone will be behind a substitute when it goes to attack, simply because so many of the metagame's most dominant steel type pokemon like choice band scizor and calm mind jirachi cannot touch it at all. the substitute takes whatever salamence throws at you (its even better if it tries to set up a dragon dance), and then you can just ohko it with hidden power ice. alright, on celebi im kinda thinking along the lines of a different move in place of hidden power fire. with magnezone on your team, celebi has no need for hidden power fire. hidden power fire is extremely weak if it is used against any pokemon besides steel types, and even then most steel types like jirachi and bronzong can take it like a champ. in place of hidden power fire, try psychic as it gives celebi another stab base to work off of. psychic and grass are both pretty bad attacking types in ou, but thats really only because of steel type pokemon and dragon type pokemon's dominance. with these two types removed courtesy of magnezone celebi can do some serious damage. for that reason i also want you to try a life orb as opposed to leftovers, if only to increase damage output. celebi is useful as it does really weaken up physical walls like swampert and suicune that would otherwise stop salamence's sweep, so generally you're going to want it to be doing as much damage as possible. celebi has recover as it is to heal off damage, and so life orb can work very well as celebi will be getting a lot of free turns with the ever-irritating thunder wave to play with and paralyze the opponent.

for other options, a life orb starmie could work in place of vaporeon, as really the only thing i see vappy being for is to stop random waters like dragon dance gyarados and calm mind suicune. starmie works well as it goes even further in weakening the opposing team for salamence to make a clean sweep lategame. the only major problem i see is that vaporeon's wishes to help keep heatran / magnezone alive (whichever one you decide to go with in the end), and also gliscor; not having roost on gliscor kinda hurts its longevity, so vaporeon is good for that. im not necessarily saying to switch vaporeon out for starmie, im just giving you some food for thought.

hope I helped, and good luck with your team Sheogorath! ;)

Thank you for the excellent rate Snorlaxe! I will definitely test your recommendation of Magnezone in place of Heatran, it looks like it could definitely work. However, as for Celebi's Hidden power, I feel that it is necessary. Picture the situation, a common one for Celebi:

Scizor has switched into Celebi. Obviously, unless Celebi is weakened, it is going to go for the STAB 4x se U-Turn, meaning a Magnezone switch in would be meaningless, as Scizor would switch out regardless thanks to U-Turn. As for Vaporeon, I feel that it is a necessary part of the team, simply because Gliscor and Tyranitar need a reliable go to.

I'll be testing Magnezone now, thanks again!

Edit: After 5 or so matches on the testing alt Team Tester 5, Magnezone is a much appreciated member of the team. I find it absolutely easy to set up with Magnezone, by simply coming on an an nve attack, or otherwise a pokemon that magnezone scares or walls. Thanks again, Snorlaxe!

Edit 2: Threat list is now up. Took awhile.D:
