Team Rascal- OU RMT

Hi there everybody! This is my second RMT, and it works pretty well, for me at least. My play style is power offense, 'cause is it just me or are stall matches kinda boring? My Defensive players have to be able to take a hit, but still dole one out if they have to. And besides, who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned sweep, eh? Well enjoy! (Sorry for the lack o' pictures)

Jirachi@Choice Scarf
Nature:Jolly
Ability: Serene Grace
EV's: 76 HP / 180 Attack / 252 Speed
-Trick
-Stealth Rock
-Iron Head
-U-turn
What can I say. In today's meta-game of big ole Leads that enjoy sticking around for a while, Jirachi is different. I love to have big bulky leads, stealth rock on the first turn, and then get screwed-over with choice scarf trick. while they switch, I set up rocks, then depending on what is sent in, I Either U-turn out, or stick it out and fight for King and Country. On some occasions, I've gotten lucky with Hax and beaten two or three poke's before dieing. She is also my check down for Dragons. Thanks to Friar For the EV change.

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Jolly /
Sand Veil
252Hp/40Def/216Speed
-Earthquake
-Taunt
-Toxic
-Roost

This Gliscor is my stall-toxic pokemon. I use it when i don't have any other really good check for a Pokemon he gets sent out and taunts, toxic's and sits down to enjoy the view. Taunt also messes with Laxs or other sweepers who need heavy set-up. Also good for stallers.

Latias @ Choice Specs
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid / Levitate
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Dragon Pulse
-Trick

This latias is a very special sweeper(lame pun XD). Her choice specs gives her the power to over take several metagame threats. She comes in at mid-game and puts a dent in the defense of the opposition. The pure POWER of draco meteor is not something to scoff at. And if any thing else doesnt' work, I can trick a scarf onto defenders (Blissey?).

Zapdos@Leftovers
Nature:Timid
Nature:Pressure
252 HP / 76 Def / 180 Speed
-Thunderbolt
-Roost
-Heat Wave
-Substitute
I have this guy as my back up ***-kicker. This guy is mainly for those people who give Togekiss a problem, or Those who need a special touch. He is also for times when their are no set-up opportunities. he is also a check for Garados and Swampert. He also messes up steels with Heat Wave. Also he is bulky enough to take a few hits.

Starmie@Leftovers
Nature:Timid
Ability:Natural Cure
EV's: 4Hp/252Sp.Atk/252Speed
-Thunderbolt
-Hydro Pump
-
Grass Knot
-Ice Beam

Starmie is a check-down for me. Rapid Spin gets rid of problematic spikes and rocks. The rest of the moves are for checks against certain Pokemon. This pokemon is good at what it does, but getting rid of it isn't that bad of a thought.

Lucario@Life Orb
Nature:Adamant
Ability:Inner Focus
EV's: 252atk/4def/252spe
-Swords Dance
-Close Combat
-Extremespeed
-Crunch
MY late gamer. His job is to cleanup and also, to defeat specialty pokes. Crunch is for ghosts and physics, Extremespeed is my teams only priority move and Close Combat is to pwn face with STAB. Again, he is just great at what he does.

My main threat for this team, is Swampert and Ghosts.

Please rate, THX!!

Hey there,

I got your PM! I think I have a few suggestions to help make your team a little better. Lets get into the rate.

First off, your lead. I like your choice of Jirachi in the lead position. I think its a nice lead that supports your team nicely. However, I think you should change your EVs to a spread of 76 HP / 180 Attack / 252 Speed still with a Jolly Nature. Max speed is very important for Scarf Jirachi because it allows it to Speed tie with +1 Salamence, as well as stuff such as Scarf Flygon. This is pretty important for your team, because Jirachi is your best chance against the imcredibly popular Dragon types that dominate the metagame. While Lucario is a steel type, his low defenses do not allow him to weather many Dragons attacks, especially those with high base power, such as Draco Meteor and Outrage. Max Speed is needed to have a chance to check as many Pokemon, including Dragons, as possible. Therefore, I would be a little more careful with Tricking your Scarf away, because you may need the speed later in the match.

I like the addition of a Gliscor as well. However, I can see you struggling a little bit against Stall teams because many of your Pokemon have hard counters on a Stall team. Therefore, I think the Taunt Toxic Gliscor set will help your team out a lot. This set is massive headache for Stall to play because Gliscor is immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes, can heal itself, can Taunt status, phazing, set up, or healing attempts, and can Toxic walls to drain their health even faster. Taunt Toxic Gliscor also helps your team outside of breaking stall teams because it can hit Lucario checks such as Gyarados and Salamence with a Toxic on the switch in, limiting their effectiveness for the rest of the match. Here is the set:

Gliscor @ Leftovers
Jolly / Sand Veil
252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Speed
-Earthquake
-Taunt
-Toxic
-Roost

Max Speed is the only odd thing on this set, but I think it is pretty important. This allows you to beat most opposing Gliscors 1 on 1 because you will almost always Taunt first. This makes you even better against stall, because Gliscor is pretty popular on stall teams now, so being able to beat the majority (or at least tie with aggressive ones) helps you a lot. This set also helps with your defensive Rotom problem because you can Taunt + Toxic Stall them, just be careful not to switch into a Will O Wisp.

Togekiss does not seem like a good fit to me. Togekiss is tough to use in the current metagame because of the popularity of stuff like Zapdos and Rotom, as well as the powerful attacks being thrown that Togekiss cannot handle. I think a better partner for Lucario is needed. My thought is a Specs Latias. I chose this over the similar MixMence for a few reasons. One is that Latias can outspeed Salamence, instead of risking a tie. This is fairly important because you have a bit of a weakness to Dragon types, and Latias can be a nice revenge killer for those Pokemon. In addition, Latias adds a second user of Trick that can help you out against stall and other set up Pokemon such as CM Suicune. This allows you to keep your Scarf on Jirachi so it can check stuff like DD Mence, which is imperative for your team. This also lessens your Stealth Rock weakness, so Starmie can afford to change its set (coming later). Latias is also Pursuit weak, which is a good thing. Even though Latias can 2HKO many common Pursuit users, such as Tyranitar and Scizor, Latias can still be Pursuited. This is actually not a terrible thing for your team, as it gives Lucario free set up time. Latias can also use its powerful attacks to wear down defensive cores to the point that Lucario and the rest of your team can finish off whats left. Here is the set:

Latias @ Choice Specs
Timid / Levitate
-Draco Meteor
-Surf
-Dragon Pulse
-Trick

Draco Meteor is the nuke attack, ripping into steel types that try to wall you. Surf 2HKOs common Latias switch ins like Scizor and Tyranitar. Dragon Pulse is best used as a late game sweeping move, or you REALLY need an attack to hit and not rely on Draco Meteor's 90% accuracy. Trick helps against Blissey and Stall, as well as set ups Pokemon. Tricking Blissey is especially useful because then you can wear down Blissey to let your Special attackers have a go against Stall teams. With two Trickers and Gliscor, you should be much better off against stall teams.

Zapdos is good, although you should use a spread of 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 Speed with a Timid Nature to outspeed Lucario and stuff that tries to beat Jolly Lucario by one point (like most other Zapdos). I thought about switching this to a Rotom, but I think that would make your ScarfTar weakness just too great, and Zapdos has Roost to deal with SR being up because I'm going to suggest dropping Rapid Spin on Starmie.

Starmie - Ok, same spread / nature / item, but I think the moveset should be Hydro Pump / Ice Beam / Thunderbolt / Recover. Because your team is less SR weak, you can make this change, which is pretty important in my opinion. To fully deal with your dragon weakness, using 3 attacks allows you to not let stuff like Salamence set up a free DD or throw out a Draco Meteor while also keeping Gyarados under lock and key with Thunderbolt. Hydro Pump is needed for the extra power against Rotom who will switch in thinking you will Rapid Spin, as well as smacking around Tyranitar and Scizor after a bit of prior damage. You notice of course that Latias and Starmie (and Zapdos in the case of TTar) have many of the same counters, so once you overwhelm them, you can get a good amount of offense going, so that you can sweep or weaken stuff to the point that Lucario can finish off whatever's left.

Thats all I have, good luck with your team!

I will respond to thine PM.

It appears that Friar has taken care of the most important points, however, I would like to recommend a few changes.

Ah yes. The ever-so-famous Stallbreaker Gliscor. If my memory serves me well, I believe that only 216 Speed Evs on Timid Gliscor are necessary to outspeed Adamant Lucario. This should transform your Evs into something like 252Hp/40Def/216Speed. You really have no need to tie with max speed Gliscor, as Latias makes a fine switchin to it, as does Starmie.

Starmie's Ev spread seems to clash with your team members'. I understand the reasoning in investing Evs into Hp and Defense to allow Starmie to take repeated hits, however, with your team's synergy, I find it unnecessary. Take a quick look at Starmie's weaknesses: Electric, Grass, Ghost, Dark, and Bug. Electric moves are eaten up by Gliscor, allowing him to Attack, poison, or even roost off any damage. Lucario sports 4X Resistances to both Bug and Dark attacks, allowing him to set up easily, as most choiced attacks come from Locked Scizors and Tyrantiars. Grass is eaten by Latias, with her Gargantuan Sp.Def, allowing her to TrickSpecs into an unsuspecting Special Wall. Ghost can also go to Lucario, but he does not have magnificent defenses, and only a 2X Resist when compiled with LO Recoil may wear him down quickly. In addition, Gliscor's new set (should you choose to use it) will give you a Physical wall capable of healing off any damage given. Now, for the set. I cannot find anything wrong with a simple 4Hp/252Sp.Atk/252Speed, Timid. This gives you enough Speed to outspeed all versions of Gengar (non-scarfed), which once was a major problem. Now that you have pokemon that can take most of the attacks aimed at Starmie, I would scrap Recover for Grass Knot. With this change, Starmie will be able to take the Ice Beams and Surfs from Swampert, Suicune, and friends aimed at Gliscor, Latias, and Zapdos, and threaten back. With Grass knot in mind . . .

Zapdos is no longer in need of Hidden Power Grass. But, considering that Zapdos is possibly Ko'ed by a +1 Jolly Salamence Outrage, I cannot find Hidden Power Ice being useful for cleaning up dragons. There are tons of options that Zapdos could use if it decides to sway against Hidden Power. I like the option of Roar, because you happen to lack a Phazer at the moment. If you want a more offensive twist, you can choose Hidden Power Ice, allowing you to maintain near-perfect type coverage, being maimed by Lanturn. What I would recommend, however, would be changing Hidden Power Ice to Subsititue. This still helps you retain Physical bulkyness, while allowing you to defend yourself from status. Roost in conjunction with Substitute enables you to PP Stall your opponent, utilizing Zapdos's only ability, Pressure.
