My team is 2/3 stall, 1/3 offense. I chose this over a standard stall team for one reason. Whenever I play with a pure stall team, I manage to get all of their Pokemon down to ridiculously low amounts of health but can never kill them off. The lack of an adequate revenge killer also bothers me. That is where my 2 offensive Pokemon, Tyranitar and Excadrill come in. I use my first 4 Pokemon (and Tyranitar to revenge kill when necessary) to wear down the opposing team then with 2x speed and usually 2x attack, Excadrill can come in and destroy whatever is left.
Swampert (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 208 Def / 44 SDef / 4 Spd
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Scald
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
- Earthquake
Swampert has been one of the most reliable starters in the game for some time. Swampert has 2 main roles on my team: Set up Stealth Rocks and Phaze. It accomplishes both of these very well too. I tend to set up Stealth Rock with my first turn no matter what unless I face something that knows a grass move. I chose Scald over Waterfall because the high chance to cripple a Pokemon in addition to the fact that the room has the same base power as Waterfall made it not too hard of a choice. With Wish support, Swampert's survivability is more than adequate.
Dusclops (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Night Shade
- Sleep Talk
- Seismic Toss
Dusclops two unique roles. The most important by far is his fighting immunity. My team is very weak to fighting so having Dusclops around to soak in those hits is priceless. His second role is blocking Rapid Spin which is just as important. The choice of Dusclops over Dusknoir was an easy one. With Eviolite, the Defense and Special Defense of Dusknoir are boosted by 1.5 giving her great survivability. I compensate for the reduced offense by using Night Shade and Seismic Toss as my two damaging moves. With Resttalk, Dusclops can be a very difficult opponent to take down without super-effective hits.
Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Def / 232 SDef
Calm Nature
- Protect
- Wish
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
No stall team is complete without Blissey. No Special Attacker can take on Blissey alone which helps her cause switches. Heal Bell rids my team of status which can be particularly hurtful to a stall team. The Wish Protect combination allows me to heal myself (allowing for two turns of sandstorm/toxic damage on the opponent) or for me to heal another Pokemon which is great considering that apart from Blissey, nobody on my team has a reliable recovery move (unless you count Rest on Dusclops or Pain Split on Foretress).
Forretress (F) @ Shed Shell
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Pain Split
- Spikes
Foretress if the god of stall. The main problem that I face with him is that he has too much to do and not enough time to do it. Ideally, he would lay down 2 layers of toxic spikes, 3 layers of spikes, and use Rapid Spin if need be. All the while, using Pain Split to stay alive. Unfortunately, this is much easier said than done. With some Pokemon now carrying fire moves just to take this little guy out, setting up has gotten difficult. Nonetheless, his typing, stats, and amazing stall movepool make him an invaluable part of this team, essentially setting up the stall.
Tyranitar (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Crunch
Tyranitar also has 2 main purposes. As the Choice Scarf may indicate, he is a revenge killer. His access to pursuit is great as my team tends to have trouble with the likes of Substitute Gengar and Trick Alakazam. Most importantly however, he makes it rain... sand that it. His Sand Stream ability is essential to this team. That 1/16th HP that is lost at the end of every turn adds up for the opponent when coupled with damage from Toxic Spikes and entry hazards. The sand storm also helps set up for one of the best finishers in the game:
Excadrill (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- X-Scissor
Excadrill is one of the newest premier Pokemon in the game. His ability to sweep in a Sand Storm is unparalleled. Even Sand Veil Garchomp has nothing on Excadrill (don't quote me on that). The Air Balloon lets me switch in against a ground type move, his decent defenses usually allow me to Swords Dance, then the opponent's severely weakened will be decimated. Oftentimes, I don't even need to send out Excadrill but whenever he does come out, he almost always gets his job done without fail.
My team has been winning me about 3 out of every 4 games, but I know that there is room for improvement. I was thinking of adding a Tentacruel to add a fighting resistance and use Toxic Spikes to relieve some of the pressure of Foretress.
Team StallStorm (now with 33% more offense!)
