Team Starrider - Bog Standard OU RMT

Been a while since I made an RMT. Anyways, this team started out amazing on the ladder, but its win-rate has progressively been getting worse, dropping down to probably 60%(hopefully not due to playing, right? ;P). I'm hoping to improve the team to help fix that with this RMT. I've been laddering with it on my alt, starrider, hence the name. The name comes from a song by Foreigner.

Now for the important stuff. The team is based around using T-Spikes to wear down the other team while I get one of three bulky Calm Mind pokes set up. Why three? I don't know, to be honest. Oh well, take a look and tell me what you think.

And apologies for any incoherent thoughts.

Roserade @ Focus Sash
Timid
96 HP, 252 Spe, 160 SpA

Sleep Powder
Toxic Spikes
Leaf Storm
Hidden Power Ice

A team with nothing but bulky Pokemon needs some help to wear down walls and dangerous Pokemon like Tyranitar and the popular and useful Roserade does just that. Toxic Spikes work great for my team, removing Tyranitar, Blissey, and Celebi, among others, so they don't stop me. The EVs let me KO standard Gliscor 100% of the time and all leftovers are put into bulk.

Lead run-down, green is good:

Azelf
- 2hko'd by Leaf Storm, they almost always Taunt or Stealth Rock first turn. Unfortunately, Psychic does a real number. Thank God for Focus Sash.
Metagross - I usually assume they carry Lum, just in case, so I go to Rotom and just Thunderbolt them until they die or switch. Metagross is probably the most dangerous lead for me actually.
Jirachi - Switch to Swampert as they Iron Head/Stealth Rock. I get rocks set up myself.
Swampert - OHKOd by Leaf Storm
Hippowdon - Same as Swampert
Smeargle - Sleep Powder them. If they're scarfed, I just sit in sleep until they switch. Leaf Storm or T-Spikes from there, depends on my mood.
Gliscor - HP Ice for the OHKO
Roserade - I HATE facing other Roserade. I try to win the speed tie and if I don't, I'm in trouble. Nothing on my team can switch into a sleep very well and two of my pokes are threatened with OHKOs.
Aerodactyl - Leaf Storm first turn. If they Taunted, Leaf Storm again. If they attacked, switch to Swampert.
Ninjask - Switch to Swampert and Roar.
Heatran - Sleep first turn and try to set up T-Spikes.
Infernape - Switch to Suicune. I don't want Swampert to eat a potential Grass Knot and I don't want Latias to be threatened early by Tyranitar or Scizor.

swampert.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
Relaxed
252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpD

Stealth Rock
Ice Beam
Earthquake
Roar

Swampert is for Stealth Rock, Roar, an electric immunity, and fire and steel resists. He's my best answer to most Jirachi and is generally the one that takes sleep and trick scarfs that I can't predict around. Earthquake is the obligatory STAB and puts a dent in Heatran, Tyranitar, and Jirachi and Ice Beam is to kill dragons and hit Celebi on the switch in. Roar is to stop bulky stat uppers that can't kill him from sweeping me (Gyarados, Flash Cannon Jirachi, DDTar, etc). EVs are for maximum bulk. Standard.

suicune.png

Suicune @ Chesto Berry
Bold
252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpA

Calm Mind
Surf
Ice Beam
Rest

Suicune is definately the most controversial member of my team and also the least useful. He might be redundant with Swampert? Don't know. His main perks are being able to lure and kill Breloom and also to stall out Dynamic Punches from Machamp. He's the first of my Calm Minding trio and can threaten an unprepared team. Many people assume he is Crocune once they notice his bulk, Calm Mind, and leftovers, and that is when I hit them with Ice Beam. Since I'm always worried about dragons, Ice Beam has the nod over Sleep Talk. Chesto berry is there because I don't want to be stuck in sleep with nothing to do. EVs are standard and for bulk. Overall, I'm open to suggestions with this guy. Zapdos? Heatran? RestTalk? Who knows.

rotomheat.png

Rotom-H @ Choice Scarf
Timid
248 HP, 252 Spe, 8 SpA

Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Overheat
Trick

Rotom! He is the glue of my team. The reason Metagross doesn't just explode on my Suicune or Swampert or Latias. The reason SD Heracross or Lucario don't 6-0 me. Spin blocking, revenge killing, and checking Metagross are what this oven is for. The HP EVs are for bulk and he doesn't really need any SpA to get the kills he needs. I guess that's becoming more and more common now, huh? Maximum speed and timid so I can outspeed +1 Gyara and still beat Adamant Luke and most Rotoms after I trick. The ground and fighting immunities are also great. Rotom. Yeah.

latias.png

Latias @ Leftovers
Timid
252 HP, 252 Spe, 4 SpA

Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse
Surf
Recover

And now we come to Latias. She is the second of my Calm Mind trio and probably tied in usefulness with Jirachi. Max HP is for bulk and max speed so I can tie with offensive Latias and beat HP Fire Latias, Salamence, and Infernape. Dragon Pulse is a OHKO on standard Mence even without any SpA investment and that is great. Anyways, Latias provides some much needed speed to my team and double checks threats like the dragons. Surf gets the nod over HP Fire or Thunderbolt so I can retain max speed and hit Tyranitar hard.

jirachi.png

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Bold
236 HP, 236 Def, 36 Spe

Calm Mind
Wish
Psychic
Thunderbolt

Rounding off the team is Jirachi. I recently discovered a love for CM Sub Rachi, but I found it dying much too fast. Using a set of jumpluff and EW's that has been gaining popularity, I can help fix that somewhat. Since I'm immune to Toxic, Substitute isn't missed very much, but Will-O-Wisp can still be annoying. Unfortunately, I can't have everything. Jirachi is my only dragon resist and can lure out things like Swampert and Choice-Flygon which gives Latias free set up. That's why they're a team! Jirachi is my first choice to bring in on Blissey, Crocune, Skarmory, and a number of other walls/threats so I can get free set up and potentially sweep. I had something else to say, something important, but I forgot it. :( Jirachi!

Thanks for taking the time to go over this. This team's record is around 1540 and I'm aiming to beat my previous record (which came from lolHO). Whenever I lose, it's generally to something different every time, though Rain and hax are the most common. The number of times I've lost to hax.. you know how it is I'm sure. Anyways, yeah.. It's an RMT. I'm open to any suggestions whatsoever, but please don't respond if you don't know what you're talking about. Thanks again.

Hello!

Obviously a solid team, only have a few suggestions. I see Suicune as the obvious weak link. You already have pretty solid counters for Breloom with Rotom, Latias, and even Roserade. Dragons also don't seem too troublesome for this team with a reliable check in Swampert. With this I believe Subtran would be a better replacement.

Heatran@ Leftovers
Timid Nature: 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Subsitute/ Fire Blast/ Earth Power/ Toxic, Explosion, or Hidden Power {Electric, Ice}

This set will benefit greatly from Toxic Spikes as Heatran behind a Sub is very dangerous. The idea is to use Subsitute on an obvious switch and then counter with the appropriate move. If you decide to go for Explosion change the nature to Naive. Heatran will also give you a useful Ghost resist, something this team is in dire need. He will also provide you with a much needed U-turn resist as Scizor, Flygon, and Scarf Jirachi seem to have bit of a way with this team with Scizor's U-turn doing massive amounts of damage to every one but Rotom and maybe Jirachi with your EV spread.

Latias' EV spread seems a little to defensively orientated for the set your running. 252 Spe/ 128 SpA/ 128 HP would do the trick for your set as it will give more of an offensive approach while still maintaining a defensive edge.

Good luck with your team!

You know what's funny? I faced you with the team I just put up on RMT =P At the time however, I was running a Yache Gliscor for random surprises like that and for Swamperts. Having faced this team, I feel like I can rate it =)

The team as it stands is completely walled by Blissey, with the exception of Suicune, who sets up on her. Once that defensive link is gone, your screwed. Rotom-H's Trick is your only means after that, and even that isn't particularly reliable as most good players realize that when Rotom-A switches into Blissey, something is up. As a result, I reccommend the following Machamp set over Suicune:

Spr_4h_068.png
@ Leftovers

Ability: No Guard
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Atk / 12 Spe
Nature: Adamant

- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dynamic Punch
- Payback

This set can switch into any Blissey and will be victorius. It outspeeds any 0 - 8 Spe Blissey, so it poses an immediate threat to them; a OHKO with Dynamic Punch. It can later come in on the same Blissey (supposing it forced Blissey out), and Rest off any accumulated damage. Machamp can also take sleeps that you currently delegate to Swampert.

I'm curious as to why you bring in Jirachi on Blissey; Blissey can Thunder Wave + Seismic Toss you to death and take very little damage in the process.

If you can get a threat list up, I can give a more in depth rate, but otherwise, this is a solid team, and I hope you do well with it =)

Hello Class, cool team, but here are some suggestions I think you should try. First off, I highly suggest using SubCharge Rotom over the current Choice Scarf Rotom. SubCharge Rotom-A works marvelously with Toxic Spikes down, as it can outstall any counters such as Blissey while stating up. The only problem with this that I can see is that you wouldn't have a hard counter to Lucario, but this honostly isn't much of a concern, as Lucario has major problems switching in on Rotom-H and then setting up (because Rotom will probably be behind a Substitute). I suggest a set of Charge Beam, Substitute, Shadow Ball, and Hidden Power Fighting, a Timid nature, and an EV spread of 128 Hp / 168 SpA / 212 Spe (item Leftovers). The given EVs allow you to outspeed Jolly Mamoswine and Adamant Lucario, while still retaining bulk and power. The premise is simple; switch in on something that cannot harm Rotom, then set up a Sub, and Charge Beam until you have a comfortable number of Special Attack boosts. Shadow Ball and Hidden Power Fighting gives perfect coverage, and will allow you to demolish Pokemon that wall / threaten you such as Blissey and Luke.

Now, I think that you should consider changing Suicune to a Calm Mind Three Attacks variant. Your current set is good, but is completely walled by bulky waters, who only Rotom-H can confidently take on. I think you should go for a set of Calm Mind, Surf, Ice Beam, and Hidden Power Ice, a Timid nature, and an EV spread of 4 Hp / 252 SpA / 252 Spe (item Leftovers). This is a more offensive Suicune that really works wonders, surprsing many common counters. The only real issue here is that Adamant Lucario can OHKO you with Close Combat after a Swords Dance, but the advantages of the set more than make up for its drawbacks. HP Electric and Ice Beam is an immitation of the popular Bolt-Beam combo, and Surf is a consistent STAB move. Leftovers is the preffered item for survivability (since this Suicune lacks Rest), but Life Orb is an option if you want your attacks to hit a little bit harder.

Thats about all I have for you, I'm a huge fan of Jumpluff's Jirachi. Hope I helped the team and gl! ;)

After testing, the Latias set and Heatran over Suicune have been a great improvement. Thanks Taang.

@ Maci12, Blissey isn't a problem because T-Spikes eat it and even if I don't have T-Spikes up, Jirachi wins because Wish + Leftovers is 56% healing every 2 turns whereas the most he can do to me is 50%. Not to mention he's forced to S-Toss every turn when I can CM/Psychic in between.

@Snorlaxe Especially since I removed Suicune, if I made Rotom a SubCharge, a LO Gyara with DD/Waterfall/Ice Fang/EQ would 6-0 me. Lucario would also have fun with proper support. Also, Choice Scarf makes Starmie A LOT easier to deal with since I can outspeed and KO. Nothing else on my team can outspeed it and a LO Rapid Spin one would be a bitch.
