Team that got me to the top 4 of ST4

So yeah, I lost.... Anyways I can still try to improve my team a bit. Feel free to make any comments even if its just a "nice team".

Bronzong @ Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/152 Atk/8 Def/96 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Rest
- Stealth Rock

My starter. Lum Berry so I can beat lead Gengars. Sets up Stealth Rocks. Explodes later, but that hasn't been so helpful lately. I added rest recently over Hypnosis, but i actually haven't had much use of it yet.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 240 HP/228 Def/40 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Grass Knot
- Recover
- Reflect
- Thunder Wave

Main answer to Gyarados and fighters. Thunderwave for the common Celebi switchins and Reflect for team support mostly.

Garchomp (M) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Dragon Claw
- Swords Dance

Yachechomp tries to set up a SD and sweep. Dragon Claw so I don't have to Outrage too early and I have Magnezone to trap steels anyways.

Tyranitar (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sandstream
EVs: 252 HP/68 Atk/160 SAtk/28 Spd
Brave nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Crunch
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Ice Beam

Added Boah back in here. Its a little different from the standard though. Outspeeds Blissey and anything else base 55 (Weezing is rare enough). Enough SAtk to OHKO Salamence and Gliscor. 2HKOs Hippowdon. Extra EVs in attack.

dpmfa130.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 212 HP/196 Def/100 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Ice Fang
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Waterfall

Resttalking Gyarados makes a pretty good Dragon counter unless it gets criticaled.... It can take 2 Outrages after it Intimidates. Leftover EVs in special defense so it can handle mixape better.

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 92 HP/76 Def/88 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Magnet Rise
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt

Traps steels and tries to open up a Garchomp sweep. EVs let it take 2 +1 bulky gyara waterfall and outspeed other Magnezones or Skarmory with 8 speed EVs.

Now the biggest problem I have had with this team is probably SS stall teams since it wears out Celebi and Gyarados who are both very important to the team. Stall teams in general are kinda hard to beat since I lack a spinner. So theres my team. I wanna try to make it a bit better for future battle. Also good luck to Jonathan (you better win).

Sorry about that :p

I found your team really solid on the whole. I suppose it was a rather unfavorable match up from your perspective. I might suggest dropping Magnet Rise on Magnezone for Light Screen. You already have Sub to kind of deal with EQ, and this way Heatran won't look forward to switching into you so much, especially as it can't switch back out. It'll also help set up Chomp for a sweep (so maybe you can go for another item, but I wouldn't necessarily recomend that), and helps your team's somewhat lowish SDef on the whole.

Actually, I'll probably go back with Tyranitar over Gengar. Not only does that help out the whole Heatran thing, but it helps out Garchomp. Probably won't even need to activate Yache if people are missing, right? But more importantly, the main thing it would stop, albiet not that popular, would be Raikou. As of right now, the only way you have a chance of stopping it is blowing up on a Sub, then having Garchomp take an HPIce between killing it. That's quite a situtional counter eh?

Among other things, I could see this team having a ridiculous amount of trouble to any weather team. You already conceded to Sandstorm team weakness, but a Rain Dance team will annoy the shit out of you, allowing Kabutops to actually OHKO about everything after an SD, with Ludicolo and Kingdra just annoying the shit out of you every day. Then you have Hail teams, which your team doesnt seem to keen on taking random STAB Blizzards. The rarest of all, Sunny Day teams, seem to actually be the most dangerous, as a non-boosted STAB FB OHKO's about 4 members of the team off the bat as it is. Of course having Tyranitar isn't going to guarantee to stop these threats, but I'd say it'll make it a lot easier to randomly switch Tar into Kingdra Ice Beams and is strong against Hail teams itself anyways.

Just a thought.

Well okay, I'll put back Boah over Gengar. Magnet Rise+Sub is pretty important on Magnezone, the lack of SpDef does contribute to Heatran problems though. Gyarados won't like having to counter too many things. I could try Light Screen on Bronzong or Celebi possibly.

Very sound team. I can see a Life Orb Mixape running TPunch/Overheat/CC/HP:Ice giving this team a lot of trouble. Though, everyone loves running the standard Nasty Plot/GKnot/Fthrower/CC which your GDos handles just fine.

Non-lead gengars can give you big problems too. I was messing around on my alt the other day and ran across a team running a very similar core (zong/celebi/chomp/ttar/gdos) and i ended out sweeping them with a standard Hypnosis/Shadow Ball/TBolt/Focus Blast Gengar. Your best bet is to let celebi take a huge chunk to Twave it or rely on bronzong to take up the lum to take it out. I guess it can work but it is shaky at best.

I don't really have any real advice for swapping specific pokemon around, obviously to have gotten that far it takes talent beyond a solid team on paper. I just figured I would throw in some things that could give you problems. Tough luck on the loss, but congratulations for making it that far
