I've loved Pokemon for a long time, but joined Smogon only a few months ago. Since that time, I've been reading all the analysis compiled here in Smogon. I recently noticed you have a RMT section here, so I decided to seek your help in improving my horrible team. My team is a bit unorthodox, but it gets the job done. I didn't want my team to be too reliant on the weather.
History
Here, the team was supposed to have huge firepower except for Claydol and Blissey. Roserade had a powerful Weather Ball and Technician boosted Hp rock for coverage as well as spikes. Claydol had stealth rock and rapid spin. Ninetales was offensive, and Chandelure had Pain Split instead of Hp Ice.
Claydol couldn't really help me get off rapid spins or stealth rocks, so I replaced it with Venosaur to abuse the sun. I then gave stealth rock to Blissey. Venosaur couldn't properly set up Growth without sleep powder, limiting it to attacking moves. This made me eventually dispose of it.
I noticed that I had physical defending problems, especially with Roserade. I changed it to a Cloyster. So much improved!
With Venosaur's four move-slot syndrome, it had big problems. After looking for a long time, I found the perfect solution- Mew! It could cover my sweeper's nasty defense and speed or my wall's weakness. Stealth rock was disposed of to make room for better moves
Ninetales (M)
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Drought
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Def / 28 SpAtk / 156 SpDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Substitute: To keep my Ninetales alive in case it gets attacked by something slow but strong.
- Will-O-Wisp: Burn those stupid physical attackers.
- Flamethrower: Reliable STAB
- SolarBeam: Covers Ninetales' weaknesses and good power.
Why this?
It has Drought! Ups Chandelure's power so much! It also counters opposing weathers, even if mine isn't needed. It is useful to counter those common rain teams and occasional sand teams too.
Comments
A defensive Ninetales. This didn't work out as well as planned. I should look up the EVs in the Smogon guide. Someone help? Also I may want a replacement for substitute, I keep on getting damaged enough so that I can't substitute and waste a turn trying. Otherwise, pretty good. Also part of the reason I have Chandelure.
Haxorus (M)
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 36 SpDef / 184 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
- Outrage: Die, die, die, die, die, die!!!!!! I won already!? Hate getting confused though...
- Earthquake: Kill those steel/ levitating things.
- Brick Break: Not helping. I put it here because Smogon said so, but I might replace it.
- Dual Chop: Stupid substitutes.
Why this?
Haxorus, a Pokémon that can actually 2HKO, if not OHKO everything except for Skarmory.I usually lead with this to destroy weather starters, Ninetales counters, or just KO a bunch of stuff.
Comments
So powerful! Just needs some psychological help, it keeps hitting itself. 252 Atk EVs are for max attack, I have no idea what I've been doing with the rest...
Changed to Choice Scarf. It is now my revenge killer.
Chandelure (M)
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 16 HP / 252 SpAtk / 240 Spd
Modest Nature (+SpAtk, -Atk)
- Overheat: Kill...switch out. 140 power+STAB+Sun=One less Pokemon to worry about.
- SolarBeam: NO water/rock/ground types allowed. There isn't anything bad about this attack in the Sun.
- Shadow Ball: Solid STAB Destroys Ghost/Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ice]: I hate those dragons.
Why this?
More power than Haxorus, except Chandelure is used for short term purposes, and it is specially based. It is pretty good for trapping and destroying Scizor, Fortress, Ferrothorn, Skarmory, etc.
Comments
It can't take hits at all. However, his Pokémon can actually OHKO everything except for Chansey, Blissey and some Arceus forms. Yep, I'm comparing Chandelure to Ubers. Overheat kills all. Bad thing about Chandelure? My Overheat keeps on missing, especially in vital moments. I need 252 SpAtk for the power. Chandelure also helps trap any bugs, grass, or steel! Who cares about Dugtrio or Magnezone when we have a Chandelure!?
Mew
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 112 HP / 144 Def / 252 SpDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Amnesia: Defend, defend, defend!!!
- Barrier: Defend, defend, defend!!!
- Rock Polish: Can't touch me. Might be changed to either Drain Punch or Giga Drain.
- Baton Pass: Time for real business.
Why this?
It is the only thing that could set up a wide variety of boosts, the nice bulk is just a bonus. I know that most players like to use quick, strong attacks to win, so I incorporated Mew so I can turn my sweepers into a wall. The opponent can't destroy me, and my sweepers will kill all they see.
Comments
Awesome Pokémon, the set is so original, yet I'm amazed it isn't in any competitive analysis. The defense boosts usually allow me to set up for at least six turns, then depending on my Hp, I can either boost speed for an easier sweep, or I can pass to anything except Chandelure because of power lost from Overheat. Mew even helped me pull off Blissey sweeps. Mixed sweepers such as Infernape are hard to predict though. Other ten that, Mew is the reason you need fast, hard hitting Pokémon, or just good phazers. I would usually destroy those Pokes first before sending out Mew.
Cloyster (M)
Item: King's Rock
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 156 HP / 200 Atk / 56 Def / 96 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SpAtk)
- Icicle Spear:25 Power? That sucks. Hit five times? Now, I can totally destroy any dragons, substituting Pokes, or anything not resistant.
- Rock Blast: Coverage with Icicle Spear. 90% hit chance sucks though.
- Razor Shell: Coverage, might be replaced. It is here because of rock types.
- Shell Smash: Doubles Attack and Speed! Minus defense...that sucks...
Why this?
At first used for rapid spinning, I turned it into an attacker. A 180 base Def is just awesome. 95 Atk is good enough. Shell Smash is a double edged sword. It makes me pretty strong and fast, but a little more susceptible to priority attacks.
Comments
I hate those dragons. Hate them so much, I have to shoot them down with a machine gun. I haven't even used Shell Smash ever since I added Mew to the team. The flinch chance probably makes my opponent hate me a lot. My low SpDef doesn't even matter. I have Mew!
Blissey (F)
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish: Stay alive, everyone!
- Seismic Toss: Damage output.
- Toxic: For those that are hard to kill.
- Protect: To stall and safely receive Wishes. (Suggestion by JSteele)
Why this?
I wanted it for its Wishes. I also needed some defenses for my team. It is one of the best walls of the game. It can even survive a couple of neutral physical attacks.
Comments
Only Pokémon I don't need help with. It passes big HP packs and hits with seismic toss. Incredible bulk allows me to pull off 6-0 sweeps with seismic toss, especially with 6 Def boosts.
How the team fits together
My team really needs your help. Sometimes it wins ten battles in a row, the next day, I lose five battles in a row. I believe the team has potential. I have a Mew that can pass defense and speed boosts for anything to sweep with, even Blissey. I can counter opposing weathers with Ninetales. I can demolish entire teams with Haxorus or Chandelure with or without a speed boost. Cloyster can do the same, except it also needs a attack boost which it can get with shell smash. Hazards don't really bother me. I never found that I needed to phaze away other Pokes either.
Problem
I think the problems are bad EVs and a uncanny weakness to rock type attacks, which luckily aren't common except for Terrakion and Tyranitar. Ground is a smaller, but similar problem. Genesect is another problem. It can run away from my Chandelure. Without a speed boost from Mew, most of my team will be outsped by those quick, hard hitting, but frail Pokémon which frustrates me. Mew is probably my answer to every threat you can think of.
What I need:
• EV spread that covers Ninetales on both sides of the spectrum.
• 256 EV spread for Haxorus that does not include Atk.
• 256 EV spread for Chandelure that does not include SpAtk.
• 256 EV spread for Mew so that I can have a high Def without losing much SpDef.
• All 508 EV spread for Cloyster.
• Replacement for Substitute on Ninetales.
• Possible replacement for Brick Break on Haxorus.
• Possible replacement for Razor Shell and Shell Smash on Cloyster.
• Feedback on threats.
• Any other suggestions.
