Round Five (Again): Wasagonnabe Desert

So we're in the scorching Wasabe Desert, the sun's beating down on the flavorful sand. We have a new match-up, Capers the Gliscor and Nidhogg the Dragonite! By the looks of them this is going to be one good round! Capers lead off, in a flurry of movements it looks like he's four places at once, thats a Double Team folks! Nidhogg, looking out from his sexy Specs, blasts a very powerful Ice Beam towards one of the clones, and it dissipates, looks like that one was wrong!

The Gliscors swoop in, teeth bristling with frost, looks like an Ice Fang! The real Capers bites down on those multiple scales of his opponent, and freezes him! Thats a thick coating of ice, that's not going away any time soon! Unless of course it's as hot here! The ice immediately retreats, leaving Nidhogg chilled and annoyed. He blasts off another Ice Beam but it hits another clone, blast!

Capers, in an attempt to escape his opponents icy rage, uses a quick U-Turn to try and escape, but Nidhogg has his number now and blasts him with an Ice Beam as he's trying to escape! It does some major damage, and he goes tumbling back into the Pokeball, followed by a still slightly frozen Choragon the Garchomp!

What's this we're in the Forest of Sil- ... *gets a black board and some chalk and starts writing* -ence!

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Image

Within the Forest of Silence, there is no sound. In fact, it seems time -- and thus motion -- has stopped completely, as everything is coated in a grey pallor, and leaves pause halfway down to the ground, perhaps to ask directions. It has become a regular haunt for trainers over the years, hoping that their exciting battles will set time in motion yet again, allowing the forest to continue in its natural cycle. That includes that natural cycle of the wildlife too, who haven't been able to relieve themselves for almost a decade now.

However, even the shortest amount of exposure to the forest will begin to freeze the Pokémon -- they will never become fully immobilised, but from the very start of the battle their attacks will become... hm... somewhat unreliable. The Pokémon must focus their minds, needing extra effort to launch an attack successfully. Naturally, Psychic Pokémon are more able at this task, though once some Pokémon get a whiff (or, in some rather strange cases, a taste) of their opponents, they will find it much easier to focus on the battle at hand. These such Pokémon must hit the opponent with a contact attack, or be hit in the same manner, for their primal instincts to activate.

The battle takes place in a clearing, which is open to the heavily-overcast sky (it is Britain, after all). This doesn't mean, however, that one couldn't alter that. In fact, please do -- it's a little chilly. Nature will behave as usual, but don't expect it to go anywhere while you aren't looking. Well, apart from that one time... Err, anyway, apart from that instance, trees cannot be toppled. They can, however, be burned to the ground and climbed. Unfortunately, there is no water around, save for the small amount present in the loamy ground.

Mechanics

  • Strict Soundproofing (EG, no Growl.)
  • Pokémon begin to be frozen, causing a 40% [flat] drop in accuracy. Psychic Pokémon, and those listed below, can focus and increase the accuracy of their moves back to their original standard by 20% for 1 extra en. Other Pokémon can increase their accuracy by 10% for 1 extra en. These boosts stack (E.G., you can add 40% for 4 EN).
  • Smelling and tasting Pokémon must hit -- or be hit -- with a contact attack before the extra EN reduction takes place.
  • Focus Punch's accuracy is unchanged by the arena.
  • The Dodge chances of all non-Psychic Pokémon not listed below are halved.
  • There is a 1/1,000,000 chance of a tree falling, dealing Wood Hammer damage to one Pokémon (decided by RNG). All of the effects listed above are then nulled. Only a tree that falls in this manner will cause this effect.

Smelling mons: Ninetales family, Persian family, Arcanine family, all Eevee-related Pokémon, Granbull family, Mamoswine family, Houndoom family, Donphan family, Ursaring family, Smeargle, Mightyena family, Linoone family, Delcatty family, Zangoose, Absol, Luxray family, Pachirisu, Purugly family, Emboar family, Stoutland family, Liepard family, Emolga, Zoroark family, Tomohawk family.

Tasting mons: Muk family, Lickitung family, Swalot family, Vanilluxe family, Haunter.

Non-psychic with Psychic powers: Ninetales family, Golduck family, Venemoth family, Stantler, Lucario family.

Right...We are now in Alch's "Tenative Gym Arena" & the already partially frozen Choragon is a little bit more...Frozen...Than before...That's when Random came up with an idea...

"Alright Choragon, time to thaw yourself out! Use Fire Fang on yourself to make the Ice Melt & make yourself a little bit warmer in this chilly place, be careful not to burn yourself! Then, with your body probably far warmer than Nidhogg's, you should be able to hit more reliably, & do so with a Double Outrage! Go, go, go!!!"

Fire Fang (Melt the Ice & make yourself warmer) > Outrage (+4 EN) > Outrage (+4 EN)

08:33 Alch Iar
08:33 Alch That's not how it works
08:33 IAR Ehh, thought so...
08:34 Alch It's not actually freezing, it's time stopping
08:34 Alch You need to specify how much EN you're using to boost the accuracy of your attacks
08:34 Alch You'd need to use 4 EN to get outrage to 100
08:35 Alch But you could use 2 EN for 80 instead
08:35 IAR Does it take an action?
08:35 Alch No
08:36 Alch You'd just say Outrage (+4 EN) ~ Outrage (+2 EN) for example
(Other Convo's)
08:38 Alch You might want to c/p this convo iar, for solstice and atheno's benefit

Somehow I knew Specs would come back to bite me. It's not like I don't have any other good items. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to blast it.

Ice Beam (+4 EN) * 3

Oh, and because Nite has Specs, my increased energy cost should be 7, 9, 11, 13...

Missed the energy cost, recalculating.

Round Six: Power Play

*Writing on a chalkboard* Welcome to the Forest of Silence, where our battle has decided to continue! It's now a frosty Choragon the Garchomp against an excited Nidhogg The Dragonite! The silence is deafening as these two mighty dragons face off! Choragon leads off, the flames dripping from his fangs melting the layer of frost off of him, he's free! Nidhogg respons with an Ice Beam, making an extra hard effort to focus as the time slows around him! It hits his opponent for mighty damage, Choragon can't take a lot more of those!

His rage at Nidhogg escalating, Choragon glows with a brilliant blue energy and smashes into Nidhogg, that's a strong Outrage! It hits for cataclysmic damage, these two titans just can't be matched in terms of sheer power! Except those Pokemon with Sheer Power...Anywho, Nidhogg is charging up another Ice Beam, this could be the end of Choragon! It hits, throwing the furious fighter to the ground, he's been KOd! What an upset, can nothing stop this Dragonite?

Whoa, we're teleporting again, guess I can stop writing on this stupid thing. Looks like we've arrived in the scalding Sienna City Gym!

Arena: Sienna City Gym (v2.0)
Field Type: Fire
Complexity: Intense
Format: Singles / Doubles
Restrictions:
-No Weather
-No Digging
-No Seismic Moves
-No Water Source

Description:

Located in Sienna City just south of Route 9001, the Sienna City Gym focuses on the Fire-type above all else. The battlefield itself is found deep underground in a conveniently placed volcanic chamber. The field is roughly 20' x 20', and is suspended 15 feet over a magma pit by tempered steel girders. While the steel is fairly sturdy, using moves such as Magnitude and Earthquake will severely damage the structure, which means that those moves, as well as all like them, are banned for safety's sake. The main platform is also made of tempered steel, so Digging is impossible. Rock moves are usable, but as the only rocks around are molten, moves using them require 3 more energy to keep the rocks from melting. If a Pokemon is knocked into / falls into the lava, they lose 15 HP and have a 50% chance of being burned (unless they are Fire-type, in which case they only lose 10 HP, or the Pokemon has Flash Fire, in which case they suffer no damage but do not get the Flash Fire boost; in neither case can the Pokemon in question be burned). If the Pokemon has wings / can Fly or Teleport (not including Pokemon such as the Gliscor line or other Pokemon that cannot actually "fly"), they take no damage, but must use their next action to return to the platform, using 2/3 of the move's usual Energy cost. If this occurs after the last action of the round, the Pokemon will still return to the platform, but cannot move for the first action next round. At the end of each round, a jet of fire may erupt from underneath one of the Pokemon; this happens roughly 30% of the time. The damage done to the Pokemon will be given as follows:

If the Pokemon in question resists Fire 4x, they lose 3 HP.

If they resist 2x, they lose 5 HP.

If they are neutral to Fire, they lose 10 HP.

If they are 2x weak to Fire, they lose 15 HP.

If they are 4x weak to fire, they lose 20 HP.

If the Pokemon has the ability Flash Fire, they lose no HP, but do not gain the Flash Fire bonus.

And that's about it.

I'm beginning to think that we should have stopped gym arenas being included in the RNG. Oh well.

I guess, back to first principals:

Ice Beam * 3

"Capers, just lock Nidhogg. Two moves are needed to Energy KO him, so just stall Nidhogg out."

Protect > Substitute (15 HP) > Protect

Actually, I just looked through the totals again and I should have way more energy: currently the Ice Beam energy costs have been 7, 11, 15, 17, 19, but they should have been 7, 9, 11, 13, 15.

This gives me 14 extra energy and I will last three actions is total, so you can change your actions if you want Random.

Actually Atheno, if you look again when you corrected me the first time I changed your energy between rounds, I just didn't change the calcs. So it was 7, 9, 11. Then the next round was 13, 15, but you're forgetting the additional 4 you inserted for the accuracy because of the arena, your energy is correct at it's current 33. Will ref this tomorrow, don't have time right now.

7+9+11+17+19=63 Energy used=37 Energy remaining.

I'll take this time to re-order actions to...

Double Team (4 Clones) > Roost > Chill

IF your clones dissipate before A3, THEN replace A3 with Protect

This should ensure I will survive without wasting too much energy, but I'm going to have to either way... :/

Round Seven: Fire and Ice

This round starts in the scalding Sierra City Gym! The floor is burning holes in my shoes as we speak! Capers the Gliscor is back and is against his old enemy, Nidhogg the Dragonite! Capers leads off with a familiar tactic, a Double Team! There's four Capers flying around now! Nidhogg uses Ice Beam, nothing new there! It passes through a clone, doing no damage!

Capers takes this convient opportunity to Roost, all the clones are perched on the steel floor, regaining some health in the process. Nidhogg uses a familiar tactic, and Ice Beams! It passes through a clone, doing no damage once again!

The Gliscors look a little tired, they take this time to chill. Nidhogg, in one final dramatic effort, powers out an Ice Beam! It hits Capers, lightly freezing him! The mighty Dragonite can't handle all this energy loss, he collapses! What a trooper!

Whoa, whoa WHOA we're teleporting again, I'm still not used to this! But before it manages to happen a burst of fire from down below, hitting Capers! It does some damage, but frees him from his icy prison! And now it appears we're at the terrifying Spirit Lake!

Name-Spirit Lake
Field Type- Water/Ghost
Complexity- Simple
Format- All
Restrictions- Water source, no seismic activity, No weather

Spirit Lake:
A solemn ground where you can pay your respects to those who have passed away. and what better way to do that than to battle! The water is an eerie black. the beach is coarse with dark brown sand. covering the large expanse of water are prayer lilies, items left by mourners to light up the dark memorial. they are small candles placed on lily pad, and many coat the dark surface. around the far edges of the arena (1300ft wide and long) dark green spruces decorate, creating a somber but nice scene. the lake is 1000 feet deep with a decline at 60 degrees. the lake is 1000ft wide and long, shaped in a circle. the battle is set at night, so the only light is the faint candles on the lake surface. strangely no matter what hits or goes through the water the surface stays untouched and unmoving. no ripples can be formed on this permanently smooth lake, giving the place a mirror effect.

I think your calcs for Ice beam might be a little bit off. For Nidhogg's Ice Beam, I calculated (10 (BP)+3 (Stat Diff.)+3 (Choice Specs))*2.25=~36 Damage, theorhetically leaving Capers with 38 HP. Unless there's something I missed...Anyways...

"Alright Capers, we seem to be in a sticky situation. I think this shall work. Begin this battle with a mighty Crunch to deal sizeable damage. Then pick up the turbo & launch at your Opponent with a strong Thunder Fang, followed by another Crunch! If Nestor goes for an Ice Beam, counter with a Dig, before Tormenting him next action! If he goes for a Disable, Taunt it!"

Crunch
> Thunder Fang > Crunch

(Once Only) IF Ice Beam, THEN Dig, followed by Torment
IF Disable, THEN Taunt

Let's do this!

Slowbro, we're in a weird Spirit Lake, so you should be right at home. I want you to use the most favourable arena we've had yet to swamp that Gliscor! Nothing can stop you now!

Round Eight:

This battle starts out at the gratefully simple Spirit Lake. It's now Capers the Gliscor against Nestor the Slowking. Capers leads off by crunching down on his opponent with darkened fangs. Irritated, Nestor responds by summoning a powerful Surf to rinse away the Gliscor. It hits him right in the wings, what a critical hit! Capers is definitely in trouble now!

Capers parries that vicious assault with a charged Thunder Fang! It hits for some serious damage, and the electrical shock is so fierce that Nestor flinches and doesn't manage to attack!

Capers folows up his flurry of bites with another Crunch. It makes contact for some sizeable damage, taking a large chunk out of Nestor. Surfing forward on a brilliant wave, he takes Capers down! Athenodoros is ahead by one Pokemon now!

It appears we've moved to an Abandoned Opera Theater, how creepy!

Artificial Field (usu. completely indoor arenas with no natural objects like rocks or grass. Note that many Pokemon can use dust, cause arena damage, or even use their own bodies to bring in natural elements that don't immediately exist)
Limited Ceiling (usu. completely indoor arenas or arenas with a fairly low vertical barrier of another kind, restricts Fly and aerial evasiveness)
No Digging (Arena cannot be Dug through)
No Seismic Attacks (Arena cannot be affected by moves like Bulldoze, Earthquake, Magnitude, and Fissure)
No Water Source (No water is available for Surf, Dive, etc.)

Description: In an old abandoned theater inhabbited by many ghost and dark type pokemon. There are large marble pilars along all four walls, a grand stair case that features a large faded painting of a man in a masquerade mask. You can faintly hear the sounds of musicals of old being sung, whether by the ghost pokemon or by the ghosts of actors long passed is unsure. There is only one light flickering in the large hall. Ghosts type pokemon and pokemon related to sound thrive in this arena. A large chandelere hangs precariously over the battle field. If the is too much movement and damage to the surrounding, it may fall and cause up to 20-30 ??? type damage to all pokemon on the field.

That's where you're wrong. Choice Specs Raises the BAP of Special Moves by 3, not raise the Base Special Attack.

"Well, it's no surprise what I'm going to send out, go Sleast!"

According to the description under battle items Choice Specs does exactly what is does in the game, raises the Special Attack by 1.5. If you have been reading another source you can show me and I'll try and find the discrepancy.

I think the confusion might have arisen because it changed at some point a while ago. I believe the most up-to-date is Solstice's version, although I'm not exactly the most up-to-date myself.

Alright Slowking, we can finally go straight for the kill: he doesn't have enough energy to stop you! But it was a good game, so we can try to finish it off in style: Jump up on one of the seats and power down with a Mega Ice Beam attack, to give this battle the finish it deserves.

Ice Beam + Ice Beam => Hopefully Win => Ice Bean to make sure.

Yeah, you're right, but any Stat Difference above 5 is only an increase of 1 for each rank above, not 1.5.

"Well, we're screwed. Enough said."

Use one of the staircases to hide from, & hopefully, dodge the combo > Chill > Chill

Also, I'll be away for the best part of the weekend, so if Sleast is still alive, action set is...

Round Nine: The End

The very tired Sleast makes an attempt to hide behind a staircase, trying to dodge the incoming attack from Nestor. The Slowking has been building up a powerful combination attack, it's a super power Ice Beam! The razor sharp beam of frost still hits Sleast, and finishes him off! Athenodoros is the winner!

Sleast Dodge behind staricase, +5 Evasion from the stairs, honestly none from the formula - 5 Energy

Nestor Combination-36 Energy (138/1000 HIT, 2/16 No CRIT, 544/1000 NO FREEZE, 26 Damage, KO)

Capers: 1 EC, 2 MC, 1 DC, 1 KO Counter
Sleast- 1 EC, 2 MC, 1 DC

FE's with Max DC get 3 MC instead. Also, remember to change the prefix of this thread to "Completed".

Ehh, gg Atheno, I had no chance of winning tbqh. Type Advantage really took its toll in the end, and...yeah. No hope.

Thanks for reffing, Solstice, much appreciated.

Now to claim from my first ever Switch Battle loss...
