The Battling Benefits of being Shiny

In RSE and DP, shinies obviously have no real advantage over their plainly colored opponents. Right?

In all theory, this could be complete garbage. But after battling OU the other day, I realized the ONLY Pokemon that I was thinking about before and after - was a shiny Slowbro.

Could the shininess of a Pokemon perhaps influence the actions of a trainer by making them focus on this one different Pokemon? After the battle, the only Pokemon I remember from the battle is the Slowbro, and almost all of my switches and predictions were affected by Slowbro - not the weakest Pokemon out there, but surely not as strong as the other Pokemon. Could the shininess have really influenced the battle? What other battling odditites do you think can have strange effects? Discuss:

If you are wooed by the sparkle and color change, then yea you'll probably be affected by it in battle. You also might want to consult a doctor.

But to bluntly answer your question: no. I'm not going to play any differently because a Pokémon is purple as opposed to pink.

Please tell me you are kidding.... please

Really, the only way it would change how you play is if it distracts you from the actual battle which it really shouldn't.

There's also the misleading nicknames that some people will use--you know, naming a Garchomp with Swords Dance "ScarfChomp," for example.

Still--

...

Sorry, I can't act serious in this topic, anymore. XD The premise of this thread is awkward, at best. Shininess never had an advantage; in fact in GSC it was a slight disadvantage in battle. lol

Well, considering wifi shinies usually have inferior IVs, people could make mistakes when guessing what damage it could do, but other than that I can't see any pros you could have battling with/against a shiny.

You do have a point there. Wifi wise, I guess it would distract me by a little, especially when I'm tired.

The guy has a point, sometimes Shiny Pokémon may seem more intimidating or threatening and you may take measures to take it down that you normally wouldn't use on a regular Pokémon.

Or something to that effect.

Edit: This fails on Wi-Fi due to shinies not usually having IVs as nice as normal Pokémon.

Really, if you are going to be frightened of something simply because it has a different color then you must be retarded.

If I send out a Bellyzard, would you honestly be more afraid if it was shiny? The color should not affect your way of dealing with it.

Why take different measures against it based off it's color?

OMG! That Garchomp is shiny... instead of using IceBeam I think I will use Flamethrower!

Really if you let the color of a pokemon affect how you play then you must not be very good.

Uh, no, not really. Shinies aren't that amazing, it's just a different color. Granted, all people are attracted to shiny things...

I see no pijt to this thread -.- Shininess doesn't affect the battle at all. If you're distracted by the color then I suggest you consult your doctor since there can be a problem with your brain(no joke)

Lol I'd actually give the Garchomp "SDChomp" as a nickname if you're using a Swords Dancer, because people assume that you aren't a dancer by the name...lol

An advantage against a retarded person is still an advantage! =D

You should not, yet some people are intimidated by cool looking shinies, such as a shiny Charizard for example.

Ex: Shiny Charizard (omg! look! it's this super-cool black dragon with fire and it's super rare) looks more of a threat than a normal Charizard and people may for some reason take more risks or change their playing style to take down a bigger 'threat'.

Yes, similar to this, except not so extreme.

Really if you let the color of a pokemon affect how you play then you must not be as good as a person who isn't affected by color.

Everyone thinks differently, I don't know if this affects anyone in reality so I'm just theorizing.

I thought there actually was a little advantage to shinies, something like a Serene Grace for them (that also increases the CH rate)? I've always heard about it but never got it confirmed, does someone know about it?

except shiny garchomp looks so close to the normal one anyway no one will notice, i battled a shiny over wi-fi, it gets treated the same as a normal poke

In GSC "shininess" was linked to the Pokemon's stats in that the Pokemon's IVs had to be specific amounts. (This is how the 1/8192 shiny rate originated.) I say it was a disadvantage because it was impossible for shinies to obtain maximum stats. Bulbapedia says, though, that shiny 1st gen Pokemon could learn 1st gen TMs; I can't say I personally know anything about that.
