The Crab
Here is my first OU RMT. I decided to make it for the fact that Crawdaunt came up to BL. I thought, “If it can be banned from UU, it can do something in OU. Something big.” Here is the Teambuilding process:
Crawdaunt was the first thing to come. I decided to roll with a DD set, as I liked the speed and power it brought, and it attempts to make him a sweeper.
/
Galvantula was added. Crawdaunt has an awful base 55 speed, being a little bit faster than Azumarill. Sticky Web changes this.
/
/
While it may seem as if an Adaptaability Monster with 120 Attack doesn’t need rocks, it can help him captialize on some KOs. Heatran was added for this reason.
/
/
/
Celebi was the next thing added. I already had a Fire type and a Water type, and I love to build FWG cores with a Physical Wall (Celebi), a Special Wall (Heatran), and an Attacker (Crawdaunt).
/
/
/
/
Talonflame came along. He provides Tailwind support if my Sticky Web fails. He also rocks a mean Band set.
/
/
/
/
/
Lando-T was added for some more Offensive Firepower. He too rocks a mean Scarf set.
Onto the team itself:
Mr. Krabs (Crawdaunt) @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Knock Off
- Dragon Dance
The Star of my Show. I have been wanting to use Crawdaunt for a while, but I never felt like going down to UU for it. Thankfully, it heard my calls and has climbed up to BL. While it may not be OU, BL passes it for me. Chansey was here last gen, and yet she was still amazing. And, with Mega Lucario getting banned, I grieved the loss. But, I got over that as Crawdaunt itself is a mini Lucario, just a whole lot slower and a bit less powerful. Onto the set.
I went for a DD set. While it may be outclassed by Megados, and a Band set may seem a bit more logical, I wanted to use the speed boost to sweep, not break. I added Knock Off, as that is one of the things going for Crawdaunt this gen, and it what separates it from Megados. Now I needed Water STABs, so I first settled for Aqua Jet. The priority is amazing. I added Waterfall just in case I needed the power to break through something.
I run the current EVs for the Speed, I can outrun Max speed 105, and a lot more with Tailwind+Sticky Web.
Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Swarm
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Volt Switch
- Sticky Web
- Hidden Power [Ice]
My Galvantula. It is different from the standard Galvantula, which normally carry Compound Eyes+Thunder. I decided to use a Swarm set, a set which abuses the full power of the Focus Sash. Its power surpasses Thunder by a bit, and it still has the good power. Bug Buzz can also deal with Mega Absol and Espeon, Magic Bouncers, and Deoxys-S/D.
I went for the HP Ice to get a surprise on Gliscor and Lando-T, and while it may not be a clean OHKO, it can still force them out and can let me set up Sticky Web. Volt Switch comes in when I know I am not getting an ensured KO or a safe Sticky Web.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Roar
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
Heatran, an amazing and great Pokemon. He used to be one of my favorite Pokemon due to all the resists. And, now that I have entered the Competitive field, he doesn’t fail to impress. He is a great Rocks Setter. He can also counter the also common Talonflame, which has died down a bit. He forms the F in the FWG core.
I went for a rather standard Specially Defensive set. He can certainly do this very well. I had originally went with Earth Power>Roar, but I had Lando for opposing Heatran. Lava Plume is my status, burning them, adding to Celebi’s and Heatran’s Physical Bulk. Rocks are here to hurt the all common Charizards and Talonflames. Toxic is chosen should I need to come to a late game stall.
I run the standard EVs for Specially Defensive, but am considering Physically Defensive to take EQs better and wall the Meta in a better way. This one has become focused on Physical power.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 36 Spd / 252 HP / 220 Def
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Heal Bell
- U-turn
My G in the FWG core. This, along with Heatran, form an amazing late game stall core. I may be down to just 2 Pokemon, but it is still great. I had come to a game in which Celebi alone cleared 4 Pokemon. He may get replaced. I considered a Mew, but then I lost my FWG core.
I run a Physically Defensive one, as it helps me brace for the mighty Physical moves that are thrown around from Pokemon like Dragonite, Conkledurr, and Breloom. It is stupid to stay in on Conk, but Celebi has taken one out before. Giga Drain comes in handy for healing. Recover is my healing. Heal Bell cures Crawdaunt of a Burn or Toxic or Paralysis. U-Turn is the final move, switching when I need it.
The EVs are rather standard. I just took what Showdown recommended as Specially Defensive but made it Physical.
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Tailwind
Now, we have Tailwind support and a powerful attacker. I may replace it for Tornadus-I as he can set up Prankster Tailwind, and Prankster>Gale Wings. Tornadus-I can also bring some Special Attacking power, something my team lacks. I had greatly underrated this until recently, and I owe a lot of apologies to this.
I run a Band set. The power it brings is just too much. I like it over LO and such. It is odd to have non-attacking move on a Choice set, but Talonflame has an awful Physical movepool that cannot do well with Choice items. I may consider a Bulkier set, like a support one with Will-O-Wisp, Roost, Brave Bird, and Tailwind. I run a Jolly nature to hurt opposing Talonflames, and Flare Blitz+Brave Bird are rather standard STABs.
EVs are straight forward, but they minimize SR.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn
My Scarfer and another powerhouse. He is awesome at coming in, getting off a Knock Off/EQ, and switching out. I also love Landoge over every thing else because of Intimidate. It can Bulk up my Pokemon by a bit.
I use a rather straightforward Scarf set. I have EQ for STAB, Knock Off is here to take out the items, HP Ice is recently added over Explosion, and is here to take out Gliscor. Explosion was really nice, as when I had him around, it was late game and the opponent was devestated by THE MOST POWERFUL EXPLOSION. U-turn is here to scout and switch out when I need it.
The EVs are standard, and I 2HKO the things with HP Ice that can bulk through my other moves, like Landoge and Gliscor.
There it is! The next post is Threats and replays.
