The Cricket Thread

India are playing for a draw. Which is kind of ruining Test cricket. It's mainly because the way they bowled to Katich and Hussey with the 8-1 field is boring as fuck.

Oh playing for a draw is ruining test cricket? Im sure you wouldn't say that if Australia were in India's position, and its the Australians that need to win not India, so if they really wanted to win they should have gone for runs but they tried to wait it out which didn't work, and Dhoni must be credited for that. Infact the Aussies have been playing defensive cricket for most of the series with so many fielders on the boundary line, and even that failed to stop the runs when sehwag and Gambhir were at the crease in the past matches.

No offence to any Indians out there but I loathe Harbhajan Singh, Khan and Kumble. Singh mainly because he is a wanker. There is something about the others I just don't like. Kumble also because he sometimes acts like a wanker.

Mabye you "Loathe" Bajji, Zak, and Kumble because they are good players and perform good against the Aussies, and acts like a 'Wanker"?? Thats an Australian slang insult so i don't see how an Indian would not take offence to that, This kinda stuff can be said about almost all the Australian players.

I'd just like to say that the 20 Million Dollar match was absolute shit and that England shouldn't have taken part.

Can't wait for The Ashes, England actually stand a chance again. Australia don't look quite so dominant anymore, especially after India mauling them in that Test Series.

Any of you guys play cricket yourselves? I had county trials D= (failed, obviously xD)

Have you guys actually noticed the bowling lineup we ran?

Aside from Johnson and Lee, I don't think any of them have actually played a test. Looking at the squad, 5 players there haven't played a test for Australia yet before the series. The fact that Australia still has the chance for a draw and the fact that even the Australian teams that have slaughtered the English in the Ashes have traditionally struggled playing in India means that England shouldn't be quite so cocky. Those young guys have never even played in India and are holding their own to an extent (Krezja or however you spell it, our new spinner, has really impressed me), so yeah don't read too much into it.

I agree with MS. Australian bowlers are doing alright when you look at their general inexperience. Just a few more tests and they will be on their ways, especially the new spinner. The batting lineup seems to be frustrated in India but once we are on a non-subcontinient wicket, the likes of Clarke and Hussey will slaughter the less-than-impressive English bowlers.

I'm waiting for the England in India tour in which I want England to win. But so sad that India is currently winning over Australia. If Australia win the match, they retain the trophy which is unlikely to happen now.

The bore factor is ruining test cricket. The fact that it is boring means people aren't going to watch it. I am sure the magority of people would rather watch something entertaining then boring. But playing for a draw is boring. I would call it boring is Aus did it as well.

There is something about them that just annoys me. And Singh is an arrogant upstart. He thinks of himself as a god. As a person, I hate him. As a cricketer, I respect him. His (and Warnes) attitude sucks. Good cricketer but bad human being., *

India dominate at home. India and Pakistan has always ben notorius for winning at home and being poor travellars. If we win there I will be very surprised, and impressed. If we lose there it won't prove a lot much. It will prove were not "Amazingly good the best in the world" but it won't prove we're shit, and INdia in INdia is always going to be a tough series with their huge support and their wickets. It will prove we're shit if we go to WI and lose.

hahaha a bunch of my mates got a hold of bjhan's number and prank called him a few times. needless to say it was incredibly funny :)

Didn't India beat Oz in Oz in the ODI series a few months or so back? thats not poor...

wow... how did they find it?

Wait, I don't really follow ODIs that much to be honest. Considering England's poor performences and my general love for Test Match cricket over ODIs i really don't know the results of ODI series outside of Englands. I think I was generally speaking about test matches, so anything I got wrong about ODIs just ignore lol.

It is true that Indians are poor travelers. Indian pitch support spin bowling and the batsmen don't know to play swing in England or Australia. In that one day series in OZ, Australia dominated the initial stages. So that is not great.

How does dominating initially matter i don't know, moreover, India won the finals in a best of 3, 2-0, so it is not even fluke of winning one match.

Jesus Christ, I never knew Smogon had this many cricket enthusiasts! I'm Sri Lankan, which basically means I'm a cricket fanatic. And on the wicketkeeper/batsman debate, Sangakkara owns.

lol India 's Defensive fielding was quite good, also anyone have any tips for bowling a better yorker? We have a interschool match with $2000 being the prize for the winning 11 and I'm in so tips anyone?

Just think about what you can do with $2000 and you will be so high you can bowl the perfect yorker; better than Shane Warne and Muralidaran combined.

In terms of watching the test match it is boring but if thats what India need to do to seal the series then i don't find anything wrong with that, and it won't be like this all the time, draws are bound to happen.

I suppose everyone has there opinion and after that 50 on day 4 i bet you hate him even more, lol

Indian batsman don't know how to play swing? hmm i wonder how they won in england 1-0 in 2007,and Australia didn't dominate the initial stages, they were getting bowled out for scores like 150 and 200, it was only there bowlers who saved them each time.

When did Warne / Murali / any other spin bowler become a Yorker expert? Whats the point of york-ing for a spinner?

Lol, exactly what I was thinking.

Generally it's the quicker bowlers or the bowlers who can swing the ball who bowl yorkers.

Agreeing on the Sangakkara debate. He is by far the best keeper batsman, beaten only perhaps by Gilchrist in his day. I have a lot of respect for the Srilankan team. I find you have the quality but not the depth to do as well as you could. I think they will be a force to watch in the future though. The series we have vs them are always really enjoyable.

It's a good strategy to win a series from a team's point of view but it's boring never the less.

Like I said, hate him as a person, respect him as a player :p

Harbhajan Singh just gets better and better. Hopefully Australia demolishes India in the ODIs and T20s so we can save some face. I don't think the new spinner's style would be suitable to these though.
