the duclod man

Wow, that story is pretty interesting and freaky. It kinda reminds me of the movie Zodiac...

Speaking of, I'd love if this was an actual book/movie.

that is pretty creepy, yet it's fucking interesting. I am amazed how that reporter managed to find his real identity through web pages and the most varied alias.

Reminds me of a lot of things I do. I have never gone quite as far as this but somewhere these stories I can familiarise with. Don't know why that is, or why something seems to return to my mind. It's just, you know, I hear these stories often. (My mother works with autistic children. She studies it too, so I just guess I hear a lot about these kind of things.)

I wouldn't call this creepy, therefore... it just goes to show that minds can work in such complicated and tough-to-handle ways that it makes it difficult for people to live properly.

This is quite possibly the most interesting article I have ever read.
It wouldn't surprise me if they made a movie about this. It's entertaining, interesting and the fact that all of this actually happened, can turn this into a straight success.

But anyway,
I personally know two people who are autistic, although not in an extreme form like this I suspect, seeing they were both in the same class as me and acted remotely normal. Autism is some deep shit, judging by how 'smart' this person played with his words and random 'jokes'.

God this is some weird shit.

Yeah, there are different degrees of autism and they come with varying levels of intelligence and brightness; my mother works with those that also have a severe learning handicap, which is an IQ below 60.

But yeah, a lot of autists are normally intelligent, or in the case of Asperger's syndrome (not sure if that counts as autism, but w/e) exceptionally bright.

This reminds me of certain e-diots that pay a visit to Smogon...except this one takes bullshit to a high new level. Very interesting, I read all of it at once. The story makes for a great movie, although you need to work on it a bit to keep it interesting.

As woman-unfriendly it sounds, I was also surprising when I read the author was female. We're talking about a girl "out hacking" and tracing an internet veteran here. We all know of this stereotype fat guy playing world of warcraft or hacking web pages (a little bit like duclod man himself) - who the hell expected a girl to do this?

In other news, I know a girl who is autistic. Except she is nearly the opposite of duclod man: nearly always happy, talks a lot and talks loud so everyone in the neighborhood can hear her. She's definitely one of my favourite persons on earth because she's really hilarious (not to laugh at, but to laugh with, mind you), I've known her since we were in kindergarten basically, plus she lives next to me.

Yeah you're right Altmer. Now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure one of them had the Asperger Syndrome.

Autistic people really have twisted minds, take this Richard person as an example; In 'real life', or, while not behind his computer, lots of his thoughts and actions seemed quite retarded to me (eg. the $2 Christmas thing). But, in all weirdness, he still manages to do all this smart and sick things and not get caught for a long, long time. Building websites, gardening, writing sick jokes, using deep wordplay, knowing how to use alts effectively and so on is, to me, not something you'd expect from an autistic person. But like mentioned before there probably are different forms and degrees. Personally, I don't think this Richard person is in the "-60 IQ" category because pulling all of this off surely isn't an easy thing to do. But on the other hand, it's perfectly possible because to his family he seemed like a total retard. Autism is weird.

edit: Yes Mekkah, she's obviously a clever girl for sorting all of this out, but to me her way of "approaching" the suspects (e-mailing Melanie, Richard himself, ...) were pretty damn stupid. Going straight to the point isn't exactly a good thing to do in this kind of situations; the chances it will pay off are slim. And it didn't, seeing the only reaction she got was from the mirrorjoke she made. That would've been a better way to get to know him and to fuck with his mind. But overall the things she did to find him were pretty damn smart.

edit2: On a less serious note, expect me to go rambo on the word "duclod" from now on.

Note how insanity or autism or anything is probably hardly related to IQ. For a very rough example, let's take Hitler. What he did can simply not be called human (or maybe it can, but that's another debate for another day) and one can arguably defend he was insane. But for his political program to manipulate so many people so effectively, you need quite some brainpower.

If I were to make a hypothesis here, I'd say insanity or autism (not saying they're the same, but they make it easier to understand) do not reduce your intelligence - they redefine what you use it for.
