so post here why you should play if you are in the bottom list.

Onto rules. I think last year was a pretty solid format, the only thing i would change was the max # of moves. I thought the 5 moves a week thing last year was very effective but now what do we do to compensate for vineon? (and vin dont feel bad we want you in this)

Im not sure what we decided on for keeper, was it keep 3 players? no keeper at all?

and lastly I will have the league created and linked up to the old leagues on thursday most likely.

That's not a problem at all and I don't need compensation.

I'm likely to have fun maintaining the theme even if it doesn't end up doing well.

.... and I really hope the draft is during the weekend.

I still personally prefer keeper, 3 players. Partly because that format helps me greatly. ;)

Besides, keeper makes sense considering its been, with a few changes here and there the same people playing since the start.

I like pookar in the league and would like Justin if I could be convinced he'd be active.

I'm in the Smogon Fantasy Football league every year, and I'm active in it every year.

I don't really know what I need to say. I'm not much for begging.

Having done a few mocks I'm a little more iffy on Keepers than I was before just because it complicates what is already a complicated draft this year, but I'm fine with three if people wanna do 'em. I'm sure I'll find a way to deal with them and three is few enough that it's pretty easy to adapt year to year anyway. I'm ok with 14 users if we somehow find the people(weren't we worried about 12 just a couple days ago?) but I'd prefer not to do keepers with that many new players.

In addition to the five move a week thing we did 100 moves total last year as well. I think fifty would have been about the perfect number and I've seen checking out some other, similar leagues it's a pretty common number - I'd like to see us jump down to that. If it's an issue for Vin I would be ok with dropping this one, though.

EDIT: Oh also two more things

1) I'd definitely back Justin, I'm sure he'll be active, and if he isn't he's active on IRC and that's usually enough for us to annoy people into activity. The NHL10 team can keep this under control ;)

Speaking of which, seems like if Psycho wants to play he's a shoo-in being reasonably active and competitive for two years.

2) StatTracker is free this year! This excites me very much since I was either going to buy it myself or annoy Vineon constantly like I tended to do two years ago. Yay!

So the 3 open slots will be Eradd, Justin####, and Psycho?

Sounds good to me.

I am also now iffy on keeper. Can we just do what we did last year lol?

As for the limitations Jackal, just leave the add / drops # open for Vincent and let's agree on a max here that we'll all agree to adhere to.

Eraddd do you use irc? that would prolly convince me more that you should be let in

also can psycho decide like... today?

also i think im gonna set the draft about a week before the season actually starts to account for training camp injuries and so i can see what my university life is like so i can actually commit to a draft. We should still compile a chart of who is available when.

I go on Stark for a bit, just to check out the competitive stuff.

I tried going on Smogon. It kept denying me access. I left a word at one of the forums asking for help and no one got back to me.

I am not really sure how if I wanted to play I wouldn't be included in this guaranteed spots list of returning vets. My 3rd place finish probably means I was inactive and thus not having a spot saved for me. In any case, I will be playing this year so I would appreciate my name being added to this list since, oh you know, I am now a 2 year player going on year 3 same as most people on this list....?

Did you register your nickname? You can't join #smogon unless it is registered.

I'd meant to comment on his negotiations sooner, but I _really_ like the deal Luongo signed here. I'd heard he was going to be more like a 7 mill a year hit before, which is probably just below his market value but not what I would have hoped for a captain of his team... but he is just blatantly underpaid now and that is very, very appealing to me as a fan. Not unlike childhood neighbor Brodeur he took a lot less than he could have (not that 64 million over 12 years is chump change, but 5.333 is a pretty laughable cap hit for debatably the best goalie in the league) and I think he'll likely be similarly rewarded with team success. Of course, on some level this just counteracts the ridiculous deals the Sedins got (6.1 hits a piece compared to Luongo's 5.3? Really?), but they look to be damn solid for a while now. Here's hoping they lock up Edler, Ehrhoff, and Bieksa for a few more years and maybe find another long term forward...

psycho with you its wasnt should he be included it was "does he want to"

and now i know you do!

so 10 guarunteed spots.

Oh... lol. How do you do that?

And Luongo's deal pretty much sealed his place in Canuck's history. He's gonna be the cornerstone for a long time.

Edit: got it fixed. am now on IRC

The Sedins actually wanted long term deals for a lower cap hit in the same way that Luongo got, but Gillis didn't want to give that to them (which makes sense, since having two contracts like that locks up a lot more future space than just having one, and elite goalies are a safer bet to age well). I think the Sedins' deals are pretty fair considering other players in the PPG range.

They're getting paid right around Pavel Datsyuk/Mike Richards/Henrik Zetterberg and such which seems a little high to me considering the contributions players like that are adding outside the scoreboard. I don't think they're egregiously overpaid (not like I remember the news clippings implying they were going for, anyway), but it seems like a little much compared to what the best player on the team is making... 12m is a lot to absorb.

It's not bad cap management by any means though, the Canucks are definitely set up in a way they can be successful over the long term if the Sedins can really be a powerhouse line 1. I'm still not sure I'm sold on them being one of the best lines in the league, but they still need to find the third horse, too. And with Luongo and the d-core they have right now, at least this year, they may not have to be.

Of course, the thing for Vancouver this year is getting back under the cap now... they really need to move a defenseman, in spite of just acquiring a couple.

Jackal can you get the league up like today and pm or deliver passcodes etc to those invited so far so I can look at draft orders while I have time, i.e this weekend?

the league is up, but people seem to be having trouble getting in, if that is the case pm me on irc or the forums for the league id/pass if you are on the guarunteed list (psycho you are)
