The Everything NHL Thread

Ah, sadly I have been very disappointed with Mats so far in the first two games that he has been involved in :( Not even a single shot, 2 PIM and a -1. Yes, these were only his first 2 games in nine months, but really? He could at least show some hustle out there.

After being beaten by St. Louis (the 15th seed in the West...) and now having to play San Jose whose last meeting with Vancouver was an embarrassment for the Canucks, this looks to be an awful start to my weekend. Hopefully the 'Nucks show some signs of aggression or ANYTHING and at least make this game enjoyable. I honestly fell asleep last night watching the St. Louis game. The only time I was ever excited was the first period.

ARG! Sorry, but I just had to rant :P

You can't expect Mats to do much in just 2 games, even if that includes shooting. If you look at what Selanne did last year, he wasn't much better.

I was more or less disappointed in a negative output from Mats.

Except he just score with 8 seconds left in the 1st against San Jose! Great to see him get the first one, and you can really tell how much the crowd loves him here.

That game was money, but when San Jose started playing McLellan hockey, it became what I expected the game to be in the first place.

In other news, Nikita Filatov scores a hat trick with some very nice goals. Anyone know if he'll stay up even when Nash comes back next week?

Lecavalier in Montreal....

I'm going to have the confirmation a god exists or not in the next few weeks.

We haven't had a tier 1 forward since............. Guy Lafleur...

Is DiPietro just having bad luck all the time, or is his body just not suited for pro sports. Must be getting annoying for the Islanders. Especially since they signed him on a multi year contract.

I agree with the local newspaper in saying that we haven't seen the best of him yet. Hopefully we will get to see the best of him eventually. I'd like to see him take the rest of the season off to rehab his knee, then to come back strong for next season. We'll have Tavares then so maybe we can sneak into the playoffs next season.

Going to the Isles-Bruins game tonight. It'll be nice to watch a good team play for once.

His latest surgery was suppose to fix the problems with his knee(?), so it's not really his fault. The Islanders seem to be unstoppable in the race for Tavares, but they may want to get another goalie. <_<

Can't wait for the "DOOBIE" chants to start again.

Isles played a decent game today, save for 10 minutes or so in the third where they were sloppier than Elisha Cuthbert. I'd like to see a goal before the 41st shot, but they were playing a nice physical game.

I had a voucher for free tickets so I expect crappy seats, but they were actually quite amazing. As always my fellow fans were classy (one guy in my section yelled out "STEP ON HIS DICK!" at one point; too bad we got rid of Simon).

Isles are going to play a preseason game in Kansas City against the Kings next year, and the local papers around here are seeing that as a sign that Wang wants to move the team there. I'm a bit skeptical myself (especially since the market in KC isn't that great for a hockey team) but it still worries me I guess.

Although I hate the Islanders, I hope that never happens.

i dont understand why Toronto does not have 2 hockey teams

it would give me something to cheer for

no, considering they would just both suck.

as for the Islanders, Wang should realise his team's problems come from management, starting with himself.

And Dubie's Islander comeback lasts less than 72 hours.

The Leafs CANNOT hold leads. Up 3-0, losing 4-3 in OT. This nearly happened against Carolina the previous day, too.

I find it even worse that Toskala manages to play a decent/good game and the effort by the forwards/defencemen just isn't there. Though that defensive move by Schenn on Kovalchuk was pretty sick.

I have the distinct pleasure of being a long-time Capitals fan...I don't think I've ever seen as fun-to-watch a team as the 2008-9 Capitals. Ovie brings pure energy and excitement to the game every time he's involved, and the Caps have a plethora of skilled playmakers/scorers (Backstrom and Semin obviously, but Fleischman, Mike Green, Federov, Nylander, these guys can do some amazing things) which make the Capitals a threat to score in every situation (as well as a goldmine for fantasy stats). Here's hoping we can turn it into a successful cup run (Melrose thinks we're the best in the East but inferior to the Sharks and Wings...I'm afraid he might be right).

He actually made the Young Guns game, on the Rookie team. I was surprised.

Also, yeah, nearly every night, one of them's missing. If Toskala's good, the defense isn't. If the defense is good, Toskala isn't. Rage.

its official, Claude Lemieux at 43 is an NHLer again.

6 years after retirement.. most improbable comeback ever.

Aim for a 5th cup, claude, with a 4th team!

Predicting he and the Sharks make it to the finals where Ovechkin lays a hit on Lemieux similar to the one he laid on Draper, re-ending his career. Ovechkin, for his part, will be awarded a two minute minor for roughing, which he'll argue.

Additionally, while a great deal less improbable it is good to see Shanahan skating again, and now that he's jumped to the team in the Atlantic I actually like I can even cheer for him again. Hooray!
