Fantasy Hockey Playoffs start today! I'm kind of excited even though I'm on vacation in 2 of 3 leagues this week, not as fun as the real playoffs but still a fun time for hockey, especially considering this is you know the whole point of playing head to head...
Owners aren't completely obvious for some team but I thought I'd post the regular season standings for those of you not in the league if you were curious.
This is two seasons in a row I'd have won if it was roto, but that didn't help me much last season and I doubt it'll help any more this season, but it'll be fun to see how this turns out! Definitely anyone's game as far as the playoff teams' chances of success, should be fun. Good luck to everyone!

Yeah I did. In what world is a team having 5+ minute of 5 on 3 in the first period fair when the majority of penalties were called in scraps after the play because Detroit crashed the net?
I'd like to add that Detroit seems to only score on Calgary when they crash the net and play shit hockey. What a good finish to that game though, for BOTH teams.
The only thing standing between calgary and being blown out by toronto is Jokinen...man what a tear he is on. How does calgary get raped or otherwise beaten by Carolina (okay they are on a tear), Atlanta and Toronto but in between that they come back from a 4-1 lead against Detroit to win in a dramatic shootout? Like holy fucking hell, lets play consistently. They have the skill to be an elite team but only show up when they feel like there is a threat of losing...but then lose when they really should win.
Predicting at least a 3 game win streak coming out of that road trip for the flames. Take that, Articuno64 and your precious west coast team

Having that many penalties is usually not fair, but Calgary was playing amazingly dirty after the whistle, and crashing the net isnt a penalty until the whistle is blown, at which point the wings stop every time. Being stupid and trying to punch people after this deserves penalties and Calgary got away with a lot less because shit was still happening that they could have been called for. Phaneuf also screwed his team over because they were playing stupid and he made a really poor decision on that cross checking/hit on cleary so they kind of deserved it in my opinion.
Didnt even realize fantasy playoffs started until I saw I had a Bye for this round.

Yah this playoffs should be pretty competitive especially because last year teams were way more separated by points and this yeah the last week saw so much movement.
Damn it'd be mad awkward if Brayden Schenn is drafted by Ottawa, renewed rivalry perhaps? lol
Really wouldnt surprise me...judging from what I know of people I have played with and against that are now in the pros that seems to be the trend.

Yeah so what the fuck happened? I remember a few weeks ago the 15th spot in the west was the points equivalent of 10th in the east. Now, excluding the islanders and atlanta, it seems to have inversed and you end up with the east doing alot better! Their playoff bottomline appears to be 5 points up on the wests!
Isles are at 56 and the Coyotes are at 62 and they are last respectively in east and west, however, I think as far as bottom lines go you may be right since the east has more points as far as it goes, but i think the lower seeded west teams are just putting up stellar games in an attempt to clinch the insanely tight 7/8 race. Do I still think that seed for seed the west is probably better than the east though? Yes.

I dont think the Flames could actually. The caps can play physical when they need to and I dont think they will be able to match the scoring. Plus I dont think jokinen is going to keep up his streak either so I'd expect him to get colder and semin/ovy/backstrom/green are all super consistent. Plus all of the other lines contribute so much as far as role playing goes. I just dont think Calgary can match it.
Hard to complain about 10 shots from one player though. Speaking of outstanding, how about jackals first day against none other than me, with lehtonen playing sound and also kopitars goal...sigh

well it looks like the cup hangover does exist! I'll be back next season for a better run.. my guys just didn't want it badly enough.
luckily in the other league I'm in with teifu I drew the 3 seed against an inactive 6 seed with 1 healthy goalie to my 4. so this week should be a win there and then beat the 2 seed which I beat 7-2 earlier.. I could be looking at a finals showdown against powerhouse 1 seed team belonging to teifu. could be intense!!
but yeah best of luck to smogon leaguers in both sets of playoffs

You can get ovechkin off his game so easily though because he's a bit of a bitch.
No doubt Jokinen will back off from his streak, but by then the rest of the flames will have woken up. They will also hopefully have Bertuzzi back and PERHAPS Borque, so they will be up to par soon.
Either way it's a moot point because I don't think either team has what it takes to go to the cup so they won't be playing a series anyways.

I think Ovy can play his game against anyone and not many people intimidate him. And if they do there are people on the Caps that will go take care of it. Honestly, I think Ovechkin is a top superstar and also not a bitch, close to him or maybe on par with him is Datsyuk.
I really don't understand how you can call the three best players (arguably) in the NHL bitches...

Well its easy crosby and malkin. They play like pussies, they win, the dont really hit, they play only a finesse game and when they dont like something they tend to tantrum or the like...that qualifies them to be bitches. Ovechkin doesnt really do this, which is why i argued that he isnt a bitch.
And not gotten suspended for it....because he "saved face by showing up?"
