The Everything NHL Thread

I just hope you're right, Aldaron.

Captain, from that list I'd take Tim Connolly. Call me a homer, but he's finally going into a season healthy after getting over concussions and bone spurs in his hip. He's a playmaker, he'll put up assists.

Ya I was thinking of picking him up as well. Also through massive scrummaging, I managed to find a few more FA Centers that may be of use:
  • Brendan Morrison
  • Dominic Moore (Having a great pre-season)
  • Michael Peca

CHICAGO (AP) -The Chicago Blackhawks have put goalie Nikolai Khabibulin on waivers, according to a person within the league.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the move.

Khabibulin is entering the final season of a four-year, $27 million contract. He joined the Blackhawks from Tampa Bay as a free agent after leading the Lightning to the 2004 Stanley Cup.

The Blackhawks signed free agent goalie Cristobal Huet to a four-year, $22.5 million deal in July, giving them two top goaltenders.

The 35-year-old Khabibulin allowed 2.63 goals per game last season. His record was 23-20.

Looking like that wasn't as necessary as I expected most likely but whatever, I kinda suspect he doesn't get picked up since much like Schneider before him he is simply far too overpriced.

And ya bring it on aldaron

Thats interesting as far as Khabs goes. I think there is a lot of competition though this year for fantasy and I wont say anything so as to not eat my words later, but I think my team has a good chance to go far this year assuming no ridiculous injuries.

ive got a shiny lvl 100 female sidney crosby up for trade (non-redistributable)

pm me any offers

Sidney Crosby should just turn his stick upside down and play with a ring instead of a puck.

Alice Hemsky and her friends in Edmonton probably like ringette too.

better hope its only 4-6!

ESPN "content guru" John Skipper says that the WWL will commit to more live sports coverage and fewer scripted shows, reality shows and original movies. According to Media Week, "reclaiming the National Hockey League is also on his to-do list. The NHL is slated to run on Versus through the 2010-2011 season."

I'm a little more torn on this than I was at the start of last season.

The realist in me knows the NHL will do better on ESPN, even if it has fewer games aired(likely) and inferior staff full of people like the now departed Barry Melrose(definitely), but Versus has grown on me lately. It's annoying enough that it's not even really part of our nationwide cable roster to the point it's reliably available for people that it'd be best for the game, even ignoring the higher visibility of ESPN, for the NHL's fanbase. I kinda wonder if Bettman is going to jump on this either way considering the main reason he picked Versus instead of ESPN to begin with had nothing to do with ratings or visibility or viewers - the revenue from Versus is higher because its flat rather than a shared revenue.

Still, it's really reassuring to see ESPN at least interested in hockey a game as far as what that means for how profitable hockey is at the moment, even though I'd be disappointed to drop a handful of the Versus staff. Either way, few years before we need to worry about it I guess.

Edit: But jokes like this one being annoyingly accurate are a lot of why I think it'd be nice if ESPN wants it enough to get it back.

• Sidney Crosby is enjoying the fact that no one recognizes him in Sweden. They must have Versus, too.

Also just throwing this out there but I would be interested in dealing for my boy LuboVish and also Kovalev so if either of you owners want to discuss something :D

Yeah, Gonchar is definitely missing four to six months. Dislocated shoulder is a huge problem especially for a Defenseman since you are grinding in corners and shooting slapshots(all involving your shoulder).

Also, I just checked his listing and you may as well drop him now because he is listed at 4-6 months!

Drag his little box to the IR location, when you click to drag him he should be able to be moved, only if he has been officially placed on IR though

Also just putting this out there for Team Smogon EASHL, I'll be on later if you want to play some games tonight, can probably play from like 10-12 or so

I'll be good then, I'm busy watching my boy Leino get crushed from behind left and right for another two periods though!

edit: LEINOGOOOOAL also vin your fans are booing hossa and i dont UNDERSTAND help

So ole Leino popped 1 and a Shootout goal, as well was my boy Max Pacy haha hard to believe i played with him two years ago

Couple of things, montreal looks good, also Leino and Kovalev wear my skates.

On a different note, I fucking hate Pittsburgh on 09 crosby and malkin are such ridiculous bullshit players 6 shots, 4 from malkin 2 from crosby, from the outside of the rink about top-of-the-circle area, 6 goals.

Just regular season play, not online or anything!

Well this sucks. I picked up Jonathon Bernier hoping he'd make the team and rake me in a few wins, but he got sent back down yet again. LaBarbera is projected to be the #1 goalie, and Coach Terry Murray likes what he sees from Jonathon Quick (who is fighting with Ersberg for backup). I'm kind of desperate for wins, should I risk picking up Quick? (Some asshole took both LaBarbera and Ersberg)
