The Everything NHL Thread

Wow, Vancouver rape. Finally someone beat down the canadian-killing indians. On another note Van Ryn is injured again, he's such a good player but he always gets shafted.

What a great performance by Vancouver. Alex Edler and Kevin Bieska seem to be getting their game back after some poor outings in this last 20 game stretch or so. Bieska flat out HAMMERED Versteeg in the 2nd and Fraser at the blueline in the first, also breaking up the play on the hit on Fraser.

Kelser/Sundin/Demitra proves to be a solid line once again. But I still wish Taylor Pyatt would just be gone from my city forever. Such a plug...

Bobby Lou also played a solid game, but you could tell he's still hot that confident. After he made a sav, he looked behind him to make sure it wasn't in the net, thus showing that he is uncertain about himself. But, hopefully the Canuck's game will continue to prosper like it did tonight. :)

I feel dirty with both my blackhawks getting 2 points in that game, lol. Hooray improbability!

But anyway, I posted to point out two interesting(well, interesting to me) stats:

The Penguins, coming off consecutive victories for only the second time since they won six in a row in early November,

Hard to believe, isn't it? I mean, maybe not when you consider their record, but it boggles my mind how inconsistent some of last year's top finishers have been this season - in addition to Pittsburgh's skids, Dallas hadn't won more than two straight until the winning streak they just came off of! Unlike Pittsburgh, sitting at tenth in the East (and I don't agree with the idea it is a foregone conclusion the Pens will get in, as surprised as I would be if they missed), the Stars have jumped from 15th to 5th (and now back down to 6th) in the West, in spite of missing Morrow and Zubov. I doubt they get too far this year, but they'll be really dangerous with those guys back next year and another year of experience on James Neal.

The other stat, even though I threw some in that last rant, is one I heard from the Caps' commentators during their last game - Washington has played fewer divisional games than any other team in the league. This is just something I found pretty interesting considering how much, like Detroit, they get ragged on for the shitty divisional opponents. While I'm sure the suspect Southeast will buffer the Caps' point totals during the second half (although Florida and Carolina are fighting for their playoff lives), they haven't done so too much during the first half, which makes their current position at #2 in the East and #4 overall a little stronger.

well i just dropped the leafs "only top 6 forward".

tavares please.

You've got some pretty stiff competition for the NHL's best consolation trophy. 12 points up on the Islanders, Toronto probably won't be in the bottom 5, thusly having zero chance of winning the lottery for Tavares. The Islanders really have taken Toronto's game of being super shitty and gone pro.

So even in failing Toronto isn't up to par.

But thanks to Toronto for beating Montreal. Sabres can climb a few spaces in the standings if they stop giving games away (Senators last night).

I'm not conceding anything. I'm just saying I don't care enough to argue with whatever you arbitrary individuals choose ^_^

Is arbitrary the largest word you know, because you certainly overuse it!

In any case, I would like to have an NHL09 song win a Grammy but none are up for selection so.

So I'm going to assume this wasn't discussed?

Also psycho, your half-assed attempts at ad hominem are really pathetic lol. At least try not to revert to cliched 12 year old backhanded insults.

As long as the forum for the fantasy playoffs is open, I'd like to stress that changing rules halfway is pretty uncalled for, but again, I don't really care.

If you guys earnestly feel I have attained my record via "streaming" and you earnestly feel it is somehow lowering your fantasy experience, I'll stop adding 3 guys a week that haven't ever helped any of my stats.

Dear Aldaron,

It has already been discussed
Also while we are talking about pathetic lets address our +- category this week because I'd say that is pretty pathetic, you probably could have added a couple wings to remedy yours but since you are apparently stopping that maybe not eh? Though I distinctly remember me calling you out on it earlier and you stopping until you started losing and then you began again!

Your pal,
Psycho

Oh we'll definitely be in the bottom 5 (most likely 5th from the bottom though). I mean these are the current bottom 5 as of now:

New York Islanders
Atlanta Thrashers
Ottawa Senators
Tampa Bay Lightning
Toronto Maple Leafs

*note* All teams have <50 pts

Others worth mentioning:

St. Louis Blues - Sitting at 50 pts
Colorado Avalanche - Sitting at 51 pts
Phoenix Coyotes/Nashville Predators/Los Angeles Kings - Sitting at 53 pts

Considering the talent level of the teams mentioned, Toronto will easily make the bottom 5 unless teams decide to bomb on purpose for Tavares.

Regarding what? His UFA status? It doesn't sound like he's getting re-signed.
Just how do you evaluate his play and ability, I have had him on my fantasy team for 2 seasons now, no one else seems to believe in him and I dont get to see many games with him playing.

I personally have always liked him. He's very solid in the defensive zone and he's a monster on the PP.

Yeah, I thought he was pretty okay, he hasnt been amazing in fantasy but he at least produces at a capability that I expect a D to produce, are you noticing him getting a lot or a little ice time though? Because from what I can see he has been cut back on ice time for a little while and I am wondering if that is starting to increase.

He was actually injured for a couple weeks, and until Sekera comes back to the lineup I expect him to get lots of ice time.
