hey uh islanders wanna not win against the devils 4-0

you're ruining an already bad fantasy week for me and besides we need tavares or hedman

Hockey is the sport with the retarded lottery right? Like last place isn't guaranteed the first pick, correct?

Cause it would give me much pleasure to see the Islanders get last place AND like the fourth pick in the draft.

They can only move down 1 spot I believe so worst they would pick is second.

I hate hockey...

great contribution.

It's heavily weighted, so last place has something like a 95% chance at last pick.

To be exact, the numbers are: 25%, 18.8%, 14.2%, 10.7%, 8.1%, 6.2%, 4.7%, 3.6%, 2.7%, 2.1%, 1.5%, 1.1%, 0.8% and 0.5%. However even if you win the lottery, the most spots you can move up is by 4. Here's where the information came from (it's based on the 2006 draft so it SHOULD be the same thing that goes on now): http://mirtle.blogspot.com/2008/03/how-lottery-draft-works.html

Ah, thanks.

Yeah so far I don't think anyone has moved at all as far as siginificant spots, have they? I think it's a retarded idea anyways.

I'm goin to the Columbus/Calgary game in Calgary on my birthday (24th!) I'm pretty excited to get loaded and yell at the jackets, a team loaded with has beens and never weres.

I kind of like the idea, as it can backfire on teams who bomb on purpose just to get the first pick. Anyways happy birthday (saying it early so I don't forget ;D).

Yes I believe the reason it was brought in was because many people accused teams like Pittsburgh of purposely tanking in order to ensure they got Lemieux so they wanted to have it so your never guaranteed a first overall pick.

Ah damn. Souray and Gilbert are playing 30+ min games now. Come back, Visnovsky! Wow we really need some d men.

Also, Our game might be a bit difficult today, even though it's against Tampa Bay. Their recent win over San Jose is something to consider :(
Edit: fuck that we won

That's an understatement. How about you add to your wish list a coaching staff and GM that can do anything useful, A foreward that can keep pace with some of the better players, a fighter that can win fights and defensemen that aren't a defensive liability (granted, two of them can score)?

Mac T is alright. I'd give him the duration of the playoffs to prove if he still has it and hopefully pull off another 06er. Really unlikely though considering our shitty team atm and the fact that our good players are working their asses off.
I think Cole is leading or almost-leading the Oilers in hits this season, so corners have not been a problem (contrary to popular belief that Cole stays out of corners) and he definitely hasn’t shyed away from anybody in the hits department. His problems this year are all offensive – he didn’t have a decent centre setting him up until he was placed with Gagner and even so, he has not been capitalizing on scoring chances nearly enough. He’s also been over-using that inside-outside move that seems to work well with defencemen in the Eastern Conference but nobody west of Toronto bites on. But he’s shown enough since January that I doubt he’ll be traded before the deadline, UFA or not. He’s a character guy who the Oilers could use down the stretch, and the playoffs if they make it. Montreal or Boston would be lucky to get him – and it’ll take more than a minor leaguer with two goals to do it.

Also, Souray is really kicking ass. Easily the best player on our team atm.

There is a fighter that can win fights actually!

Calgary is NEVER trading iginla. He has a sweet deal and knows it, and he's a great player and amazing human being, so he won't go elsewhere. I've met him twice, by the way.

Stortini on Edmonton cannot fight. It's like a hurricane of fists but none of them land anywhere. Macintyre is scary though, I wouldn't wanna scrap with him.

Mactavish doesn't deserve another chance. He's terrible and has demonstrated that time and again by switching his lines around a million times per game and failing to motivate anyone. Actually, I'd almost make salary cap room for him in Calgary, but keep him as the oilers coach, just so we can keep edmonton sucking as long as possible!

Souray is a good scorer, but his plus minus is -5 as of Feb 25, 2:50PM mountain time (incase there is a game tonight). Speaking of which, check this out:

Souray -5
Smid -7 (A team low)
Staios -6

Talk about defensive liabilities.

Just looking at the oilers roster...

I went to junior high with this guy!

Anaheim is trying to get rid of Niedermayer and Pronger. The former of which would make for a great defensive line with Souray. Our defence is pretty ass, as is indicated by our high GA, and Pronger did wonders when he came, hopefully Niedermayer could do the same.

Don't hold your breath, the rumors are mostly circulating around New Jersey. Niedermayer used to play for them, obviously, and will likely be retired there so I'm sure he'd rather play there. Pronger will NEVER play for Edmonton again. That's not even counting the fact that very very few players want to play for Edmonton, AKA Siberia of Hockey. That's just assuming that either player would have a say in where they go, which is probably not true to begin with but NJ has cap room and is a contender, so a rent-a-player would help them alot.

Oh, then there's that one little thing about the GM of Anaheim being Brian Burke. He HATES the Oilers franchise, since the oilers fucked him over on the Penner issue (aka signing a restricted free agent in a cowardly manner, which is something no managers really ever do because it's an asshole thing to do). So the odds of a deal between Anaheim and Edmonton are basically Nil from that perspective as well.

Not to mention the observation that Edmonton needs draft picks and young guys that might stick around to rebuild, not rent-a-players, since they haven't got the best chance of making playoffs anyways.
