Not sure how many of you other than Carl and I check operationsports frequently, so I figured I'd link to an apparently exclusive vid of Be a GM mode in NHL 10 they got:
http://www.operationsports.com/videoview.php?id=456
Highlights:
Fantasy draft returns! And there was much rejoicing.
You have rep of sorts with other teams which seems to go up and down based on good and bad offers. I assume the teams on the ice will be a factor here too, but nothing in the vid shows it.
You can upgrade your staff to do some ridiculous sounding things like find out about trade offers you're going to receive before they arrive!(?), upgrade your scouts so they actually go places other than Canada(you need to upgrade for this? You can tell the game is made in Canada...), among other things. Kinda neat though: "This is just a rumor but I've heard the New York Rangers(tm) are finalizing a deal with either Chicago or Montreal"
(it's double funny how theres comments about that (Gomez trade) and in the draft how Toronto won't accept the trade offered for Luke Schenn, lol)
The prospects game we were excited about being in BAP is a big factor in GM mode as well apparently, as you get to see the star prospects on the ice instead of just dealing with the numbers only interface we've gotten in previous years.
You can offer/receive offers from other GMs of players and picks at the draft, and similar things on trade deadline day to emulate real GM work which is exciting since the former has obviously been impossible in the past and in the later enemy GMs haven't seemed to factor in contract length at all so that'll be a fun change, especially if it carries over to BAP to make your AI GM less retarded.
Also you can get fired and have to switch teams in an interface that seems similar to BAP (since apparently you have an agent getting you contracts...), though it's definitely a bigger deal here, I imagine. Realism could potentially bite there...
I'm excited enough about the gameplay changes that I'm not sure I want to jump to the sidelines right away, but this'll be a fun diversion at some point!
