The Everything NHL Thread

Hell yea, came back to find that the Sharks won (w/o Marleau). I'm telling you guys, wings are toast :).

Just watched the game, and I'm not sure yet. I really want the Sharks to win this, but game #1 showed me that Detroit ain't gonna surrender that quickly.

Let's pray you are right, was nice to see that Thornton is really developing in a good Line 2 center. Go Pavelski!

can we blow up the caps now

no really, halak isn't that good at all, but he looked like a HOFer because the shots we threw at him was practice-level shit.

the pens had one of the worst power plays in the NHL yet went 3 for 3 against the habs in one game. their coach actually ADJUSTED to shit, rather than bruce "I don't know how to beat a guy other than to shoot the same fucking shot at him 50 times"

it's quite possible the caps would have lost to EVERY team in the playoffs, and gotten swept by the better ones.

if nothing else i think synre would coach the capitals better than bruce.

Misery loves company. Top 3 East seeds gone.

Shows how little the regular season means (aside from April, you could plainly see the Devils and Sabres backing into the playoffs).

My steps for putting the Sabres over the hump for next year:

1. Dump Drew Stafford, he has hit a wall and could get a decent return for a "change of scenery".
2. Keep, at all costs, Mike Grier. Make him fucking captain, too, if necessary.
3. Tallinder and Lydman are UFAs. Keep one, and if I had to pick, I'd say Tallinder. He was a perfect linemate for Tyler Myers.
4. Bring in a power-play quarterback to replace Lydman. I'll have a better idea of who's available once free agency gets closer and I see who won't be re-signed.
5. We don't necessarily need a high-paid sniper, that's what Vanek is capable of/is already. We need some fucking SIZE, and someone who can win a faceoff other than Gaustad. Someone like a Nik Antropov, but with playoff experience. Roy and Connolly were huge no-shows this spring, and there's a good chance Timmy C just played (or didn't play) his way out of town.

changing prediction to Canucks in 4

EDIT: PATRICK KANE AKA DIRT MCGIRT

COMING BACK STRONG IN GAME 2

HAWKS IN 7

LolHawk fans. Joking :P

Canucks played well today. Good penalty killing, patience with the puck etc. Chicago was inconsistent, especially Niemi. In my opinion, Kane shouldn't have scored that goal. It was a fluke play by Luongo, who let it slide.

Luongo was lights out tonight, I'm really hoping he doesn't keep that up for the whole series. I think we just played really bad defense and gave Niemi way too many bad situations. Then again Niemi wasn't on his game tonight either.

Overall, tonight was shameful and here's hoping that we get our shit together for the rest of the series.

no really, halak isn't that good at all

Nah he's just something like 12-0 this season when he receives 40 shots or more and 16-1 when he receives 35 or more.

Guess it's a good idea to pick your shots against a goalie like that.

Also fuck sundays, I always forget they stick the games in the afternoon.

Big Pavelski! and thxs broken stick that led to Jumbo Joe's goal. The Sharks are showing up.. Marleau and Heatley working their game and second line of Pavelski/Clowe/Setoguchi continue to produce. Not looking good for Cold Wings and their special teams especially

Itt: LD and MS fighting over who gets to father Big Pavelski's children.

EDIT: I've know that Setoguchi has been a second liner this season but I keep thinking of him as a first liner for some reason!

I think the officials have dibs

Did Thornton get on his knees or something for the officials? I mean come on, bullshit calls all around. One of the worst games I've seen in a while.

And meanwhile, the Canucks are busy burning up some Blackhawks. I'll stop watching and watch again in the third period, because of exams.

Man that Nucks game was brutal, still tied at 1 apiece going back home isn't the worst situation ever...Hawks weren't fantastic either so hopefully Nucks can do it up

Pathetic attempt by the Canucks in the third. Who the hell lets 2 break aways during a power play and only has six shots on net. Stop with the fancy setting up bullshit. Niemi is a weak goaltender, and the only way we can beat him is by shooting the goddamn pucks.

Niemi looked fantastic today. He's been inconsistent in the playoffs but when he's hot like he is now, nothing is getting by him.

I'm really glad that we built momentum going into wednesday's game. The Hawks played incredibly physical and basically set the tone after the first 5 minutes.

It's not like I've watched tape or anything, but that would seem to be a function of their ridiculous team defense - which seems to be designed to give up a bunch of bad shots, which actually GIVES the goalie momentum by stopping repeated attempts, while hurting the other team's momentum and morale.

Not saying Halak is bad, etc, but he wasn't even the team's unquestioned #1 for this season.

Agree completely, I was yelling at the TV when I saw them passing when they could have just shot the damn puck at Niemi! Trying to hold onto a one goal lead is what killed them in the playoffs last year and then they go and do it again. Hopefully on Wednesday they will come back in a big way.

I wouldn't say that nothing is getting by him considering what happened in the first couple minutes of the game. He did well but he really wasn't challenged at all by the Nucks. There were a couple of nice saves but for the most part he had an easy night with the Nucks laying back and trying to hold onto the lead.

I'd disagree. The nucks had plenty of shots on Niemi and he made some pretty great saves throughout the game. The first goal was probably nerves, the second goal was a 5-3 PP, and after that he let nothing in. He went close to a full 60 minutes without letting in a goal, and I'm gonna give him props when he deserves it.

Not saying Halak is bad, etc, but he wasn't even the team's unquestioned #1 for this season.

The reason wasn't because he wasn't outplaying the other goalie but because team management has a huge bias towards Carey Price (or had).

See Price was a very high first round draft pick (in the Crosby year draft) and was billed and marketed as the future of the franchise ; the coaches were told to play him. That changed a bit when Bob Gainey (last GM, the one that drafted him) quit this year, giving more freedom to (also new) coach Jacques Martin.
