The Everything NHL Thread

I hope the Islanders do good this year, though it'll be largely based on whether or not Montoya can continue to play well. I assume El Nino is ready, how about de Haan?

And here's something 'interesting':

@dchesnokov
Dmitry Chesnokov
Alexei Yashin's agent Mark Gandler tells SovSport Yashin has an offer from one NHL club. KHL's SKA didn't extend his contract.

@dchesnokov
Dmitry Chesnokov
Asked if the Islanders is NHL club with an offer for Yashin, Gandler said he didn't want to name the club.

carl reads like mike green plays defense

also if yashin ends up playing for the islanders again i swear i am going to burn down nassau coliseum myself

I think DeBoer is a good signing for NJ because I'd definitely bone him, he's adorable in a clueless kind of way he's had a decent pre-NHL resume and not even that guy in Slap Shot could save the Florida Panthers.

Posting to comment on Osgood's retirement. Sad as a Wings fan in that he's maybe the most beloved player we've had here in my life, but man that love blinded a lot of fans... his game has been falling off the past couple years and combined with injuries, it was definitely time.

Nice price for Stamkos... pity Lecavalier's isn't more reasonable. What a bitch of a contract to inherit for Yzerman and staff...

Got to an age where you see some of your favourite players retiring while yet very well remember their rookie season.

Lalime came into the NHL from out of nowhere and started his career on the most unbelievable winning streak ever ; I believe he won his first 16 NHL games or something. Not something likely to be repeated any time soon.

He was one of the least used backups in the league in recent years however and I'm not too sad to finally see him call it quits. He's a smart man and will be a very welcomed addition to the Montreal broadcast team on RDS.

That said, young Québec goalies really need to pick it up. It wasn't that long ago that the Q junior league was seen as the premier league to get goalies from. These last few years, the Fins very much seem to have taken over. Disheartening that Fleury and Bernier (which I'm sure is closing in on a #1 goaltender job, be that in LA or elsewhere) are now the only goalies left aged under 30.

Lalime retired??? Wow, he's got so much left in the tank. I'm proud that he got his 200th win as a Sabre, but honestly, the team just never played well in front of him, leading to poor/skewed stats. Sad to see him go, I guess Enroth is making the move up full-time.

first thing's first, I'm a leafs fan; dig it, hate it, whatever ;)

Secondly, damn Lalime, ttyl.

Where do you all think Campoli's gunna go? People say Leafs might want him, but they would be burke addind a 10th wheel to an overstocked D-line :/

Ranking logos (disregarding jerseys) with an expected bias towards the original 6 :

(Hartford Whalers would definitely make my top 5)

1) Chicago Blackhawks
2) Los Angeles Kings
3) Boston Bruins
4) Canadiens de Montréal
5) San Jose Sharks
6) Pittsburgh Penguins
7) Buffalo Sabres
8) Toronto Maple Leafs
9) Detroit Red Wings
10) New Jersey Devils
11) Saint Louis Blues
12) Ottawa Senators
13) Carolina Hurricanes
14) Winnipeg Jets
15) Calgary Flames
16) Philadelphia Flyers
17) Tampa Bay Lightning
18) Colorado Avalanche
19) Edmonton Oilers
20) Columbus Blue Jackets
21) Anaheim Ducks
22) Dallas Stars
23) New York Rangers
24) New York Islanders
25) Nashville Predators
26) Vancouver Canucks
27) Washington Capitals
28) Phoenix Coyotes
29) Florida Panthers
30) Minnesota Wild

I don't know why you don't like that logo. The jersey itself is retarded, but the logo is actually pretty awesome. How many possible logos can you make for a hurricane? They used a hockey stick as a flagpole and put the hurricane warning flag on it. Pretty cool.

The new Jets logo looks like a 3rd graders first art project using MS Paint.

My logo rankings (excluding alternate logos)

1) Avalanche
2) Coyotes
3) Blues
4) Ducks
5) Sabres
6) Hurricanes
7) Capitals
8) Lightning
9) Kings
10) Devils
11) Penguins
12) Flames
13) Sharks
14) Oilers

The rest of them are actually lame. I don't care about "tradition."

I disagree with those rankings. Most those logos suck (Coyotes?? Avs?? Ducks??! Ducks logo is just their name..) The only thing we agree on is the terribleness of the new Jets logo.

Detroit still has the most beautiful sweater in the game. /end fan bias

The D in the Ducks logo looks like a duck foot and/or a bird flying. I think it's pretty cool. The Avalanche logo actually represents an avalanche coming down the letter A. I think you have to take into consideration the actual name of the team. What possibilities are there for a Duck/Avalanache/Coyote logo? I think they did a pretty great job considering how boring their names are.
