Calm down, I was saying it was arguable because Scuderi turned his back completely to Bernier right before the impact which is obviously a really bad move. Even the refs weren't completely sure what to call until they saw blood, they figured they had to call 5. Notice how I didn't say that my opinion was fact and that it is ARGUABLE, you seem to have gone senile in your old age.
I think any boarding penalty + blood drawn is a 5 minute major, so it was the right call regardless of the severity of the boarding, though it probably would've been a major anyway
I doubt it would've been a major without blood. I've seen hits like that not even called as a minor before (with no injury happening obviously.)
Either way, I feel like the Kings would've won the cup. They were definitely the better team at this point of the season.

Colorado Avalanche: Adrian Dater projects that Matt Duchene could get $5 million against the cap in his next deal, and both Ryan O'Reilly and Erik Johnson might pull $4 million each. Just wanna note real quick that if David Jones just pulled $4 million per from the team for the season he just had, Duchene et al will be seeking Publishers' Clearing House-sized checks.

Also Lindback traded to the Lightning. Considering the price paid, I don't think they'll go hard after Bernier or Luongo (sorry Vin =[).

I dunno... Lindback has started 28 NHL games and played in a total of 38. Compare that to Bernier who has started 42 NHL games and played in a total of 48. However, 7 of those starts came 3 and 5 seasons ago. If you look at just the last 2 seasons, Bernier has 41 appearances to Lindback's 38. That's really not a big disparity in NHL action. Bernier has more games and more minutes still but it's not an overwhelming amount of more experience. Their stats are comparable and both goalies played on more defensively oriented squads. They're both even the same age!
On paper, there's two major differences between the two. Number 1 is size. Lindback is 6'6 or 6'7 and Bernier is 6 even. As the saying goes... You can't teach big. Number 2, and probably more importantly, is draft selection. Bernier has always been a highly touted first round prospect whereas Lindback was a relative unknown selected in the seventh round. You have to imagine the Kings were asking for more than the Preds were due to pedigree. Size and cost we probably the two biggest factors but I won't discount that the Lightning scouting staff also did their homework and saw / knows something we didn't / don't.
When you look back at last year and the price Varlamov went for, yes, Lindback was pricey but I think the Lightning would have had to ante up more for a relatively similar prospective goalie... And a hell of a lot more for Luongo.
Personally, I like the move. Nashville has pumped out their fair share of good goaltenders so that's probably the hope here. If they can sign him to a good contract (another thing to consider, would Bernier ask for more money?) and Garon is not terrible, Lindback could play backup / split time for a year and they can re-evaluate what to do in goal next season.. If they should hand the keys (or better, if he takes them) to Lindback as the starter or find another option in goal and give Lindback more time to develop. Should be interesting to watch next season. Next move should be to shore up the blueline so their new young goalie doesn't get lit up every start.

Lindback obviously hasn't had enough time to make judgment one way or another, but I certainly haven't been overly impressed by his numbers in Nashville. I've also watched him play 2-3 games as well (yeah, not much of a sample, so whatever) and I wasn't impressed in those games.

I think it makes sense if Lindback doesn't let a bad year or two get to him. I think he's of equivalent talent to anyone reasonably young they could have acquired. In spite of how good of a year they had last year, that's still a young team that has a lot of holes that need to be plugged before they can be a serious contender reliably. Yzerman is going to have to boost that defense over the next couple of years for them to be competitive regardless of who they have in net, so I think it's the right call to develop a cheaper younger goalie that they expect to be a star later than bring in someone who's already a star and who's going to eat money and age behind that defense.
Anybody else excited for the draft this year? There's a great crop of players amongst the top 10, and it's probably the most uncertain in terms of ranking. Also there was a report that this year's draft would be the most busy in terms of trades, so hopefully that's true too.

I have a feeling I'm going to be very very depressed fan today as the Oilers walk out with a defenseman who literally single handedly made Canada lose the World Junior Championships this year.
Oilers will take Murray if they're smart, but chances are they'll pick Yakupov
Why would it be smart to not take the best player available with the top pick again? Refresh my memory on that one..
If they trade down or trade a forward after taking Yakupov for a proven NHL defenseman, then it's a different story...
Yakupov won't fall out of the top 3. It would be completely idiotic to keep passing on the best player in the draft. If none of the top 3 teams want him, it would be easy to trade down to another team in the top 10 and get their guy + bonus pick(s).
because they have enough offensive firepower from the last 4-5 first rounds alone, and their defense is horrendous. They absolutely need to improve their defense way more than their offense
Yeah see the Canucks tried that a few years back picking Bourdon over Kopitar because we had center depth (Kesler and Henrik), while we had no defense at that time. Bourdon (RIP) would've likely topped out as an inferior Phaneuf playing a second pairing role, while Kopitar has won the cup.
Unless the two players are roughly equal in terms of potential, and standing, ALWAYS pick the one who has the best chance of being the better player. Meaning, while Murray is a surefire NHL defenseman, you pick Yakupov 99 times out of 100. Of course, too bad the Oilers organization is still "on the fence." Incompetent twats.
Another interest tidbit, apparently CBJ is hesitant to draft Yakupov because of their misdealings with Russians in the past. I could see Montreal getting him if it plays that big of a factor, and if EDM really wants Murray.
As for the Canucks, I really hope they either get Laughton, Sisson, or even Koekok (however the HELL you spell that guys name), but most likely we'll end up with Laughton and I see the latter two going ahead of the Canucks.
Thinking Grigs might fall out of the top 10 with the questions around his game and the retarded rumour that he's 20 or something, but I don't see the Lightning passing him up. I would honestly pick Galchenyuk over Grigs however, and I think Montreal will too. Reinhart and Dumba are intriguing players in my mind that could go top 5, especially with NYI looking for a defensemen.
