The .hack series?

I'm the only one out of my friends group who's ever played them, but i'm sure
there's gotta be a couple of you folks who've at least played one game
in the .hack series, right?

I just recently got the .hack/gu series, and played through the first four, and
then the gu series this recent summer. The originals are really repetetive, especially after spending 100 hours + running through what seems to be the same dungeon... But the gu series attempts to make it a little less monotonous, and i think it succeeds.

Any thoughts? Any body else played these games?

I do wish they would make an actual .hack mmorpg though, heh

Out of all my friends, only one person and I have played all the .hack games all the way through. Two of my friends have tried to play the first one, but quit on the second or third dungeon (the solo run with the goblins that cast sleep).

Good Lord, that must have been 6 years ago that I started the first game of the original series. I have to admit that the first series gets repetitive fast. When you switch games, it just gets repetitive in a different way. Still a fine game, though I do not think it has aged well.
The first series does have two redeeming features: Mistral and Grunties :toast:

The G.U. series is wonderful. It fixes all the problems of the original series (the main character can use something besides twin-blades), save for some repetition toward the middle of the game. Great story, excellent characters, and some cool but gimmicky mini-games. The steambike racing and You-Know-What fights are awesome.

If any of you lurkers are lucky enough to find all three G.U. games used at a game store for a reasonable amount, pick them up. I doubt you will regret it.

As for an MMO... it makes too much sense to exist. Plus, I don't want real people in my .hack The Worlds.

I absolutely love this series. They have an upcoming PSP game, .hack//Link, that looks good. I played the demo and it's pretty sweet.

I really love this series though. The story just pulls me in everytime I think of it and I love the music as well. G.U. was great, but IMOQ will always hold a special place in my heart... I'm pretty sure Toothache was into these games, as he had Kite as his avatar for a while, and his custom title had something to do with .hack as well.

I really liked the trading system in the first series. It seemed to just be... easier, and easier to get better stuff too, i don't know.

.hack//Link eh? I'm definitely going to have to check that out, thank you
