The King Takes His Throne (OU RMT)

Every since I have started competitive battling, I have just throne random teams together, so the other day I decided I would actually test my skills and see how well my team building skills are. So far, this team has work at very well and would like to perfect it.

Drapion @ Leftovers/Shuca Berry
Jolly Nature (+Spe -Sp.a)
252 Spe 252 HP 6 Att
-Toxic Spikes
-Taunt
-Protect/Whirlwind
-Night Slash/Earthquake

This guy is a far better toxic spiker then Roserade in my opinion.Higher base speed, better typing, and a better support move pool lead me to pick this as my lead, because as we all know, Empoleon needs toxic spikes. He usually goes down early, but if he stays late game and can come in and taunt when I need it. Protect is for Azelf leads when they're gonna explode, but I haven't seen a lot of them lately.

Hippowdon @ leftovers
Relaxed Nature (+Def -Spe)
252 HP 252 Def 6 Att
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Slack Off
-Stone Edge

Empoleon loves sandstorm and rocks up. There are two pokes to do this: Tyranitar and Hippowdon. When I had the picture of this team in my head, Tyranitars x4 Fighting weakness and x2 Ground weakness really didn't help this team at all. Plus, Tyranitar couldn't really do anything I wanted that Hippowdon can't. This thing just handles the physical hits this team hates while hitting back with powerful attacks. Slack Off is for tanking and Stone Edge was a filler to be honest.

Spr_b_g4_479L.png

Rotom-c @ Choice Scarf
Timid Nature (+Spe -Att)
252 Spe 252 Sp.a 6 HP
-Trick
-Leaf Storm
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball

Rotom-c fills so many roles on this team. It is the unnoticed MVP of this team and helps it glue all together. Rotom helps save many teams from the Fighting and Ground type attacks running rampant in this metagame. He also takes out many threats which could end up ruining my team like Gyarados,Swampert,Gengar,Latias and maybe even some more. He can also screw over many walls like Blissey and Snorlax with Trick, who can also stop my Empoleon sweep.

Spr_b_g4_395.png

Empoleon @ Petaya Berry
Modest Nature (+Sp.a -Att)
252 Sp.a 252 Spe 6 HP
-Agility
-Substitute
-Surf
-Ice Beam

The best late game sweeper in the current metagame in my opinion. Not many late game sweepers can turn the #1 used pokemon into set-up fodder. It is such a joy to not have to worry about Scizor screwing over this team because I have many ways to handle it. Anyways, Empoleon is insane once it gets an agility off, and has some many chances due to its amazing type. Unless your a bulky water, even a resisted surf is going to hurt when in torrent and petaya boosted. The one problem with this guy is when there is a scarfer like Gengar or Latias left who can still outspeed and ohko me.

Spr_b_g4_330.png

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Jolly Nature (+Att -Sp.a)
252 Att 252 Spe 6 HP
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-U-Turn
-Thunderpunch

Flygon benefits this team so much for a couple of reasons. One is the face that with the scarf it can revenge kill a majority of the metagame's sweepers, causing loads of switches and staking up residual damage for Empoleon. Another thing is it can hit many things that stop my other pokemon, like +1 Gyarados, Salamence and Dragonite. Also hits many Psychic and or Grass types (Celebi) for Super-Effective damage.

Spr_b_g4_392.png

Infernape @ Life Orb
Naive Nature (+Spe -Sp.d)
64 Att 192 Spe 252 sp.a
-Fire Blast
-Close Combat
-Grass Knot
-HP Ice

The best wall breaker in the metagame probably and brought Skarm-Bliss to shame. This guy, like Flygon, causes loads of switches due to excellent speed, ability of attacking from both spectrum's, and a huge move pool. This guy can take out many steels like Bronzong and Metagross while taking out Blissey, Swampert and un-boosted dragons. This thing can get off many mini-sweeps mid game so sometimes I dont even need to set-up Empoleon.

This team has problems with a few pokemon. Scarf Gengar and Latias are really anonying and I have to rely on prediction and residual damage to take them on if they refuse to trick away the scarf. Also Zapdos can take on a lot of my team but can be handled if I can get Rotom's scarf on it. Also, this is my first RMT, so sorry if it isn't that good. Anyways please comment and give me tips and changes, I will make them in bold. Might add some other thing if I can think of anything later.

Scarf Rotom seems pretty pointless to me, because Flygon is already Choice Scarfed. I'd try the SubCharge set, because it benefits so much from Toxic Spikes. It makes a very effective sweeper, and also doesn't get instantly killed by a Scizor/Tyranitar. Here's the set:

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Timid Nature
4 hp/252 spd/252 spa
-Charge Beam
-Substitute
-Hydro Pump
-Shadow Ball

These moves provide great coverage, and Charge Beam has a 70% to increase your Special Attack. This set also hits a lot of common phazers like Skarmory hard, another benefit. I hope this helps, and good luck with the team!

hmm alrighty sounds intresting, I'll give it a try, thanks, but is it the wash forme really more effective and mower? Leaf storm is very useful

I've tried the wash forme and subcharge, but they really dont help the team as much as scarf mower does. I have real trouble with latias after I changed the scarf off.

Hippowdon:

In my opinion, Hippowdon is your "Weak Link". I know that Empoleon may love SS, but with SS, you are hurting Rotom-C and Infernape with the switch-in. Rotom-C loses 18% just for switching into SR + SS. And Infernape loses 32% HP just for switching in and attack. SR + SS + LO + SS. To better assist Empoleon. You need a Pokemon that can easily set up SR, yet one that can also take a variety of hits from leads. For this, I suggest a Lead Heatran set:

Heatran @ Shuca Berry
4 Atk (Or 4 HP if you pick Taunt over Explosion)/252 SpA/252 Spe
Naive/Timid (Use Timid if you pick Taunt over Explosion)
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Taunt/Explosion

With this set, you can set up your own Stealth Rocks very easily. Fire Blast provides you with a very strong STAB to deal with Pokemon like Hippowdon, Jirachi, Mamoswine and the like. Earth Power is to deal with opposing Heatran and Infernape as well as providing good coverage. The last slot is the toss up. You can use Taunt to Taunt opposing leads or use Explosion and easily wipe away the existence of Pokemon such as Gyarados, Salamence and the like.

Drapion:

A suggestion for your Drapion. If you still want to have Toxic Spikes, it would be wise to change Drapion to Roserade. As Roserade can take on Grounds that Heatran has trouble with. Here's a great Roserade set:

Roserade @ Leftovers
Natural Cure
Timid Nature
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Sleep Powder
- Toxic Spikes
- Leaf Storm
- HP Ice

Sleep Powder can disable threats that can hurt your team such as Skarmory and Salamence on the switch. Toxic Spikes is the entry hazard that you want. Leaf Storm provides strong STAB to deal with various Water types such as Vaporeon. HP Ice is a little gift that helps you deal with Salamence who think they can switch in with impunity.

Flygon:

For your Flygon, you should change ThunderPunch to Stone Edge to deal damage to Scizor and Salamence a lot more than Thunderpunch would. Likewise, you can also try a Scarf Latias over Flygon if you feel you want more damage and speed:

Latias @ Choice Scarf
4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Draco Meteor provides a very strong STAB. When combined with Surf, it hits every Pokemon neutral barring Empoleon. Thunderbolt easily takes care of Empoleon and Skarmory. Trick is the niche that makes Latias very different from Flygon. Latias can Trick her Scarf onto Blissey and permanently ruin it.

Thanks for the much needed advice. All your idea's seem like they'd work well. Im for sure going to try out the Roserade and the Heatran. The only thing I dislike about Latias is I lose U-Turn, which helps this team a large amount of the times. Though the good thing is Latias is Scizor bait, who is Empoleon set-up fodder

i love this team..and have found out it is EXtremely similar to my team ...using 3 members (empoleon, hippodon, infernape ) and im thinking....there is 1 other pokemon who loves stealth rock,t-spikes, and sandstorm..and this creature is the deadly torment tran...i dunno what you think about stall but this team could really benifit from it...i use it (trying really hard not to make our teams the same ) try it out and tell me what you think

EDIT: before i forget..i also second the change to subcharge rotom-W...it'll really help patch up some of your weaknesses

Doesnt the Petaya still activate after rocks though? Also, I do not find Subcharge is easy to set-up. I go in on something I counter sub, but then can't really charge due to them outspeeding and killing me after the sub is broke, if I attempt to charge

Just a bit of advice; i think it'd be best if you took out Drapion and used Hippowdon in the lead spot, and then in place of Drapion used Careful Forretress with 252 HP / 252 SpD / 6 Atk, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Payback and Rapid Spin. Much more efficient Tspiker imo and it can also do other stuff like spin and lay down spikes. Also take out Stone Edge for Roar on Hippo.

On Empoleon use 12 HP / 12 Def / 252 SpA / 232 Spe to have best HP for activating Torrent and Petaya and all of that junk.

Locopoke, I have tried Forretress and I now agree that it's much more durable and a spiker in this situation, but is Payback the best final move? Im just wondering if there is a better option. Will update main page soon.

I've barely seen hippowdon take on much in my time battling, but Tyrannitar destroys all of the pokemon your team is weak to - namely special sweepers. If you make it a max-speed version, a tricked scarf wouldn't be a bad thing either.

IMO Tyranitar is better than Hippowdon despite his weaknesses for one main reason: Pursuit. Scarf Latias and Scarf Rotom are annoying as hell for Empy and Tyranitar easily wipes them out. Not to mention Hippow help you offensive momentum at all. An expert belt Tyranitar with Pursuit/Crunch/Stone Edge (or Superpower)/Flamethrower is pretty effective, or you can just go with CB.

What are you talking about? Empoleon and Infernape can OHKO it, Hippowdon can take it on, and Rotom and Flygon dent it. This team has 0 problems with Tyranitar

@ Supermarth
I realize that but is that really going to do enough and I would primarily switch out on a heat rotom.

@ Chenman
Good point, but overall I think that the bulk and the fact that it gets stealth rock up easier is better overall for empoleon
