The Legend Gauntlet
(
Patrons |
Rewards )
"Trainers look for Pokemon to capture." Such is a golden rule in the world. However, in this very same world, there exists a subset of Pokemon that turns this rule around. Hidden, elusive, mystical Pokemon, looking for Trainers worthy enough of their favor and recognition.
These Pokemon will willingly enter one's service if one respects their power. Battle on their grounds, on their terms, under their watchful eye. Triumph over an opposing Trainer with an equal desire to please their patron, and you may walk home with a reward envied by the entire realm.
This is the Gauntlet, where one earns the right to be called a Trainer.

Patrons & Teambuilding
Battlers in the Legend Gauntlet battle with the favor of their Patron. Details of each Patron's favor are in the Data Thread for this facility.
Patron Selection
Selecting a Patron, and if applicable, meeting its toll, is a mandatory part of playing in the Legend Gauntlet. You may not forgo the favor of a Patron.
Those playing in the Lesser Gauntlet will select their Patron when they send their teams and backpacks to the host.
Those playing in the Greater Gauntlet will select their Patron as they sign up to enter the gauntlet. Greater Patrons have profile requirements that prospective opponents would be able to discern.
Patron Favor
Each Patron offers two Blessings that it can bestow upon you in battle. When selecting your Patron, you are to select one (1) of the two available blessings.
However, if you can please your Patron's Whim, you instead get to enjoy both blessings. Are you prepared to field a team of cats?
Arenas
Legend Gauntlet matches arenas are purely for flavor and do not affect the battle.
Referees are encouraged to write a fitting setting for these titanic clashes. Some examples are provided within:

Sea Spirit's Den
A half-flooded cave where whirlpools sometimes swim around. The rumors tell of a slumbering beast on the ocean floor deep below, and of a strange micro-climate around the cave, where snow would suddenly fall in the midst of summer, or the rocky walls of the cave being gently warm to the touch while the bay is freezing.

Burned Tower
This landmark from Ecruteak is still shrouded in mystery centuries after the tragedy that befell the Tower. Among the tourists simply here to take a picture are a fair few rumor hunters eager to see whether the legend of the elusive Beasts really is true. While Eusine may be the most famous of them, several nobodies have decided to join the cause and would pay a lot to examine the ruins a bit closer...

Stormchaser's Path
North of Mistralton City, harsh and mysterious weather patterns continue to batter the land, some curious souls have taken it upon themselves to pursue the danger.

Ruins of Conflict
Ruins with bright yellow walls said to be the residence of a battle-thirsty yet benevolent guardian deity. Fierce sparks abound around the place.

Ruins of Abundance
Ruins with sleepy green walls said to be the residence of a lazy yet benevolent guardian deity. Grass sprouts abound around the place.

Ruins of Hope
Ruins with serene purple walls said to be the residence of a punishing yet benevolent guardian deity. Thick fog tendrils abound around the place.

Three-Point Pass
This narrow pass in the mountain of Galar’s Crown Tundra has some rather strange Pokémon sculptures directly hewn from its rocky walls. Aside from the well-known Dragapult and Electivire, a Steelix, a Carbink, and a Glalie seem to have mysteriously appeared some time ago, eliciting many a whisper among the villagers, as none of them claims to have sculpted them.

Crown Shrine
This place where Calyrex was once crowned absorbed most of its spiritual energy, letting it seep around the area. It has been nourished with the respect the inhabitants of the Tundra once paid to the king, and though asleep for now, is brimming with life-granting potential, much like Calyrex itself.

Pledge Grove
In a clearing near Floccesy Town lies a place only known by a few pure of heart souls. In ancient times, they convened here, determined to protect their fellow Pokémon. While their deeds are now long gone, their determination and valor is still inscribed in the very landscape of the grove, giving strength to any would-be successor laying their eyes on it.

Pokémon Fan Club HQ
Throughout the world, people love Pokémon. Especially fluffy, easygoing Pokémon. Among the enthusiastic chatter, many cat-like Pokémon will find a place to rest around (or on) people. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the fuzzy friends help one decide to stay an hour or three with a drink in hand and cat treats in the other.
Matchup Creation
The Legend Gauntlet maintains two queues: The Player queue and the Referee queue.
Whenever the player queue for a gauntlet hits six (6) people, a neutral party (either a moderator or the facility owner), will nominate themselves to be the host of the gauntlet. From the host's post revealing themselves, the top six players from the queue have 72 Hours to send their teams, backpacks, and patron to the host. When the host receives all send-ins, they will reveal the teams, backpacks, patrons, and matchups.
Failure to send in within this 72 Hour window will result in the delinquent player being declared absent for the match, and that match will be cancelled. Opponents of an absent player, who were not also absent themselves, will be refunded their entry cost given priority in the queue.
Matchups are created by pairing off the six participants into three matchups at random.
