Board Game The Lost Art of Diplomacy - GAME OVER (E/F 2-way draw)

SPRING 1908 MOVES, PART 1
Knock knock! The EF has officially entered the Balkans and wants Turkey to open up real bad. The Sultan responds with return fire, as expected, retaking the Ionian Sea!

SPRING 1908 MOVES, PART 2: ADRIATIC ARMAGEDDON
France retreats into a nice, cozy cubbyhole called the Adriatic Sea, and suddenly Turkey's hold on ION doesn't look quite so strong!

Armies go boom, fleets go bounce, the unstoppable march of EF progress continues. They've stopped trying to make the gamestate seem interesting, and so will I. This is cleanup work, folks.

FALL 1908 MOVES, PART 2: LONELYNESS GETS KICKED OUT THE WINDOW BY A HORSE BOOGALOO
Turkey is in EAS! I'm not sure it helps him that much, but it's a heck of a lot better than being in Albania at least. Nobody should ever go there besides Top Gear.

My computer quit on me so this update’s a bit late and a bit scuffed. Shoutout to Dead by Daylight for helping with the sandbox work here.

AN UNFORTUNATE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM GENEVA
Hello everyone, Switzerland’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair in recent days; my computer has decided to derail the government by breaking down. As such, Switzerland is left with very few options to continue GMing the game on my own, and I will instead be handing this duty over to…

UncleSam, President of the United States!

With a little luck, regular daily updates will resume this week.

Hello all!

I have been informed that we will be retconning a mis-order from last cycle. I am merely administering this game and so will simply post what the updated board state is now. The mis-ordered unit was the French fleet from Bre -> Lon (should have been ENG). The resulting adjustment leads to this position, which is the official game state as of Fall 1909.

Please send me orders ASAP so that I can resolve and update.

I am going to assume that the Turkish army in SEV will retreat to Armenia. It is now Winter so Blazade can simply disband it during Winter if he wishes.

Current game state (Winter 1909):

Adjustments needed:
England: Build 2
France: Build 3
Turkey: Disband 1

Please submit these adjustments as soon as you can. Possible we can do Spring 1910 as well before the wrap-up tomorrow night.

I made most of these posts 6+ years ago but let’s just ignore that lmao

This is my one thousandth post, so I’m going to temporary derail this thread before our (hopeful) end-game extravaganza tonight to drop this post and deliver some shout-outs.

I made my Smogon account four days after the release of X/Y, over 10 years ago. 10 years is a long enough span of time that I no longer the specific reason (if any) as to why I joined. I think I may have gotten into competitive Pokemon thanks to the change in IV inheritance mechanics with Destiny Knot, which made breeding competitive-grade Pokemon in-game a far less ridiculous task.

I must admit, however, that I was never much of a competitive Pokemon player, and I really wasn’t active on this site until I discovered Circus Maximus about a year later. I enjoy(ed) mafia IRL, so I figured that I’d stand to enjoy it online as well, leading me to sign up for my first game here. Leading the town as a total beginner with Celever (not to mention my extremely lucky randtargets) was an incredibly enjoyable experience, and I was hooked, to the detriment of my post-reaction ratio. The next game I played, Wayne Bradier Mafia, only solidified this experience. Winning that game is still one of my more memorable moments on Smogon, 9 years later; I still remember the alliance that myself, Celever, DLE, and others made, and if my memory is serving me correctly, it’s the origin story behind DLE’s signature. (I am still shocked that he has kept it all this time)

Several years and many games of Mafia later, my activity then plummeted in 2017-2018, leading to my last post pre-hiatus in August 2018. Much like the circumstances surrounding my signup, I don’t remember if there was any specific reason as to why I stopped signing in. The most likely outcome was that I was beginning college at the time, and that in tandem with a general decline in OC Circus Mafia at the time made me focus on other pursuits.

I think I may have signed in twice or three times during my hiatus out of curiosity, only to see a continued absence of OC Mafia. That all changed when I signed in on a whim in December to see the ongoing Multifaction Recruitment Mafia game. Seeing that so many old (sorry lol) faces from Circus were still active inspired me to stick around (and even begin a new journey with the GP Team), and I’m very glad that I did.

I’ve rambled for long enough. Before I close, I’d like to send some shout-out tags. I can only write so much, though, so if you didn’t get a tag this does not mean that I am ignoring you / our connections; it’s just to preserve my own sanity. I'd also like to thank every player in this game for being genuinely a pleasure to play with, and my apologies for the notification.

There are really only two groups that I interact with, Circus Maximus and the Grammar-Prose Team. If you’re being tagged here, you’re involved with one (or both), making this kinda like a sunny crossover episode.

Circus Maximus

Da Letter El You have no way of knowing this, but you are single-handedly the reason why my return was longer than one game. When I saw the MRM game thread, my original intent was just to sign in every week to see how the game progressed, and I had no intentions of actually posting anything. This all changed with your tag in the game thread, though, and when I saw your messages in the game discord I was genuinely touched; I actually took a screenshot of them and have it saved on my computer. My bottom girl (lol) showed me the enduring bonds of this community and drew me right back in. I’m glad that we finally had the opportunity to play on the same team, even if we both died in like 24h; here’s to many more games together!

Celever you and DLE are the two users that I have the most memories with from my past time. Whether it be leading a village as a beginner, winning together in Wayne Bradier Mafia, or completely taking over the ToS mafia graveyard with political debate, playing a game with you has always been a joy. I’ll be sure to take you up on your drinking buddy offer if I ever find myself in the UK, I already know it’d be legendary.

LonelyNess Ironically, while both of us would qualify as “Old Circus Players” in my book, we never really interacted until my return this year. Strategizing with you both as the Psycho recruit in MM3 and in this game has been quite an enjoyable experience, and no matter the outcome here, I have had lots of fun sharing dog pictures in our alliance chat or discussing sentencing procedures (lol). I hope we can be on the same team in future games!

I’d also like to ping a large group of old Circus players that I remember from before my hiatus:
Ampharos askaninjask Bass billymills Blazade JALMONT UncleSam Yeti zorbees while we may not have interacted too much in the past, I still remember all of you; and similar to what I said above with DLE, seeing your continued activity on Circus has showed me the enduring bonds of this community. So thank you.

GP Team

deetah and autumn Believe it or not, I actually had an interest in getting involved with the GP Team 6+ years ago, as well. I think at that time I wasn’t very confident in my writing abilities, and therefore I didn’t try to get involved. Many years (and several college-level writing essays) later, I decided to pull the trigger and get involved with am checking. Becoming a fully-fledged member of the GP Team was one of the most rewarding journeys that I have undertaken recently, and I have you two to thank for it. I’m going to sound like a broken record, but I truly cannot thank you both enough for your mentorship throughout the amchecking/application process. Here’s to many great GP checks in the future!

brightobject CryoGyro GatoDelFuego Hulavuta Mr. Uncompetitive P Squared I remember debating Gato in one of the old iterations of the Politics thread in 2016, but it’s hard to believe that I only met most of you earlier this year. Meeting an entirely new group of friends after I began my GP journey has been a genuine pleasure, and it’s been so much fun playing jackbox/watching your streams during this time (even if I keep getting last place in Jackbox lol). I look forward to many more game nights / Sekiro+MAGMML3 streams in the future!!!
Thank you for reading this; extrapolating from my lifetime post rate, I’ll see you January 22, 2035 for my 2k post.
