The Medicham-pion

Hello Smogon Community! This has been my most successful team in the current metagame and I would really appreciate some suggestions:

Medicham @ Expert Belt
Trait: Pure Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Hi Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Fire Punch

Medicham is very underrated in my opinion as it can easily OHKO most everything that does not resist in not named Skarmory or Blissey. The only problem I've experienced with this set that it still is not fast enough at times. I'm thinking about switching to a scarf but I'm not sure how much the power drop will affect the set.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 4 HP / 144 Def / 248 SAtk / 112 SDef
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Toxic
- Leech Seed

I originally put Ferrothorn in as a Rotom-W counter, but this has quickly become one of my all-time favorite sets. I know that this set is completely walled by opposing Ferrothorns and other Steel types, but once those are gone I've gotten some good late-game sweeps with it.

Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bounce
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang

Fairly standard Gyarados set here, I have a Lum Berry here to stop potential counters trying to burn/toxic/paralyze before Gyarados gets a chance to set up

Sableye @ Lagging Tail
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Calm Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Trick
- Foul Play
- Recover

Another personal favorite, I have Sableye here both as a Latios/Latias counter and to cripple any problem pokemon on the opponent's team. Foul Play gets around Sableye's low attack stats and can usually OHKO most psychic types after burn damage

Heatran @ Expert Belt
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast
- SolarBeam
- Earth Power

Another standard set, Heatran is really only here to soak any Fire attacks that Ferrothorn might attract, to be honest this is the one slot that I'm not 100% confident in.

Landorus (M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 228 Atk / 28 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Earth Power
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Rock Slide

Landorus is also only here to soak up attacks with its Electric and Ground immunities, but has a lot better coverage than Heatran. I'm considering switching to a full on Special set instead of a mixed set, but then I lose my only rock coverage.

I highly recommend going with Scarfed Medicham. The drop in power is not that bad and he gets waaaaay faster.
Good team!

I just have one point to make with your sable-eye. You said it is using foul play to take out physic types but seeing how almost no physic types have strong attack stats and likely wont boost that stat the overall move I beleive is lost in dealing with physic types instead maybe trade the move trick for the move shadow claw as it has a high critical hit ratio and you can also still use foul play in dealing with other pokemon but still have a move to take car of physic types

@saxtonhale Thanks! The scarf if helping a lot

@Earth
Really? Because virtually every psychic type I've encountered in the current OU metagame has a base attack stat of at least 80, the sole exceptions being Alakazam (which is so frail that it really doesn't matter) and the rare Reuniclus. I don't have the exact numbers on me right now but I've consistently gotten OHKOs on Latios/Latias
And the point of trick is to throw the lagging tail at Pokemon that can otherwise sweep my team (i.e Rotom-W if my Ferrothorn was KO'd earlier in the match), and Speed Boost Yanmega. With the Lagging tail forcing the would-be sweeper to move last, there are enough offensive powerhouses to be able to KO it later.
I guess I forgot to put that in the OP, but shadow claw is still definitely worth a try

Why are you running Giga Drain on Ferrothorn? He has a horrible Special Attack stat, and while the HP gain may seem attractive, Power Whip will almost certainly deal up to twice as much damage on most foes.

just a quick answer...

1. Im running Sableye with pain split instead of recover because often you recover everything and also do damage... of course u have to change the EVs then.

2. I think you are using too many expert belts, i would recommend LO for Heatran and scarves for the two other

3. I think you made a mistake when giving Landorus its EVs... 228 Atk when u use only one physical move ??? you also could use Hidden Power Rock!

4. As CJorex already mentioned, power whip is much better on ferro

5. I wont give Heatran Sunny day + solar beam (except in a sun team), alternatively you could use HP Ice to counter dragons + dark pulse.

@CJorex Thanks, I'll test that out

@Nexxus

1. Good idea, what EV spread do you recommend?

2. I have already changed to scarf on Medicham, I'll try out the LO Heatran

3. ...how on earth did I miss that?? Haha thanks for pointing that out

4. I' m definitely changing to Power Whip

5. Another good idea, but I like having Sunny Day to counteract Sandstorm
