I was thinking of making a thread that exposes a lot of the metagame's current problems, and helps the metagame change to become more modernized.
Problem 1:Scizor
The main problem with Scizor is that people use only about 2 sets on Scizor, This:
Name Item Ability Nature
Choice Band Technician Adamant
Moveset EVs
~ U-turn
~ Bullet Punch
~ Superpower
~ Pursuit / Quick Attack
248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
And This:
Name Item Leftovers / Iron Plate Ability Technician Nature Adamant
Bulky Swords Dance
Moveset EVs 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
~ Swords Dance
~ Bullet Punch
~ Superpower / Brick Break
~ Roost
The Metagame is becoming so predictable. I have just started using this Azelf:
Azelf @ Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Explosion
- Thunderpunch
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
You would not believe how much of the Metagame it runs through. Electivire, Jolteon, Salamence, Dragonite, Roserade, and Zapdos are all run through with Ice Punch. You can figure out the rest of the statistics yourself. And, yes, the metagames most used pokemon, Scizor, is sadly killed instantly by Fire Punch, bye bye sweeper. This set covers almost the whole tier. It is ridiculously easy to use, very fast, and very powerful.
Problem 2: RMT Ripping
RMT Ripping is yet another big problem in this metagame. While I agree that rates are an excellent form of communication and introducing battle styles, Some battles are becoming so ridiculously predictable, It does not even present a challenge. While I accept that players like panamaxis or Gouki can use RMT's and still win using their own improvisations on the teams, some players downright comp the team and the strategy, for instance, I faced this team yesterday:
http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45814
My opponent used exactly the strategy that Jabba describes and it was so damn predictable. I ran through the team with astonishing ease. It seems like nowadays, only well-known players make the teams and sets, and all the novices rip them. It seems stupid that many players are incapable of making their own teams. If you have the general pokemon knowledge, and basic understanding of the game mechanics, then you should make your own team.
I will make an edit to add more of the Metagames problems tommorow.
