I made this team today while I was bored during a session where I'm testing random Pokemon. This team becamse very successful for me, so I decided to post it here, at Smogon.
I'll tell you the Synergy first. The synergy is rather simple, just set up Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock, then start sweeping with Lucario on their Defensively weak Pokemon, or start stalling with my defensive core of Swampert, Cresselia, and Zapdos. In addition, I have moves like Roar and Reflect to even make it harder to get past my defensive
This team does have one majoy problem. I rely on Roserade way to much. If by any chance Roserade is dead and I didn't set up Toxic Spikes, I'm screwed. Foretress seems like a good choice to replace it, being bulky and being able to Rapid Spin. The only problem is, Roserade's speed has been extremely useful for setting up on leads like Salamence
The Mix Team:
Now, for specific movesets, description, and EVs.
Roserade @ Focus Sash
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Timid
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
- Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power Ground
- Leaf Storm
- Toxic Spikes
Definetely one of the best leads. I may want to replace this with Foretress, since Foretress can set up Toxic Spikes and Spikes. (This team really wants Spikes.) Being a good lead and a good supporter, I really would like to keep this right now due to the fact that I rely on it during some tight situations.
I must admit, the EVs are wierd. However, due to the fact that I switch out on other Roserade most of the time, I'm not running max speed. 232 Speed gives me enough Speed for Salamence. Hidden Power Ground over Hidden Power Ice or Hidden Power Fire lets me hit Heatran, the most common switch-in to Roserade. Focus Sash guarntees I can survive a hit, provided the opponent dosen't have weather up yet.
Roserade sets up Sleep Powder and Toxic Spikes for me so I can start Sweeping and / or Stalling. I really rely on Roserade to set Toxic Spikes up due to the fact that half my team is my defensive core, and the other half likes Toxic damage to get in some KOs.
Gengar @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Naive
EVs: 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Punch
- Substitute
Ah, Substitute Gengar, a rarely seen threat. A very potential sweeper, being able to get rid of it's #1 counter, Blissey. Unlike other Gengar, I have Focus Punch to hit Blissey. However, I hate it when Blissey run from me the first time I Substitute, which is somewhat of a problem.
Why I'm running McGar? No reason in praticular, but it's pretty useful to get rid of Blissey and let my special orianted walls stall more efficently. However, I'm not running max speed due to the fact that I need as many EVs between Special Attack and Attack. I may swap more Attack into Special Attack, since Gengar has sky high Special Attack that lets it sweep really well. I may use Hidden Power Ice for Salamence and Garchomp, but Thunderbolt has been fine for me right now.
Gengar is my first part of offensive. It gets rid of most sweepers that get in the way of Lucario, such as Gyarados and Gliscor. Gengar also sweeps teams that aren't ready for it, especially ones that rely on Blissey to counter Gengar. I usually bring this guy in rihgt after Roserade has set up Toxic Spikes.
Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
- Close Combat
- Crunch
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
Swords Dance Lucario, one of the deadliest sweepers that everyone knows about. Unlike Garchomp, it gets Extremespeed and Bullet Punch to deal with quick sweepers like Weavile. It also can destroy Bronzong, unlike Garchomp. However, in exchange, it has a harder time to deal with Gliscor and Gyarados. (Garchomp has a hard time too though!)
The reason I'm running Bullet Punch over Extremespeed is that I'm a bit bothered about Weavile, as Swampert is my only counter. I may swap back to Extremespeed just to hit Garchomp and for more offensive power, since this team dosen't have any offensive power beside Gengar and Lucario.
Part two of my offense. Finishes off the sweep that Gengar has started. It also finished off low health Mamoswine etc. Lucario may sometimes lure in Psychics like Cresselia and Celebi after I use Bullet Punch (Because they think I don't have Crunch), only to get hit by a ridiculously hard Crunch.
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpD / 40 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Roost
- Substitute
ResTalk Zapdos. In my opinion, it's the best ResTalker. This set does a good job countering Flyers, Fighters, and Grounds. This set easily comes in on a Garchomp from Earthquake. This set wrecks havok with Toxic Spikes up, being able to stall lots of sweepers.
I admit, the EVs are a bit different. Having Swampert and Lucario, I really don't care about Tyranitar. Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Ice gives me good coverage. Alot of the time, I get to stall with Pressure and Rest, thus letting me stall out moves with 8 PP, like Seed Flare and Close Combat.
Part one of my defensive core. Zapdos is my main counter to Togekiss and Staraptor. Zapdos absorbs status for me. It also can wreck havok and do some real damage if Blissey, Lanturn, and Magnzone are gone. I really like getting rid of Gliscor when they think they're coming in on a Thunderbolt, only to hit by Hidden Power Ice, thus letting Lucario sweep.
Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 SpD
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Roar
- Stealth Rock
Standard Mixpert, with Roar over Hydro Pump / Surf becuase I need a Phazer. This set does a good job getting rid of Tyranitar for me. It also does a good job of stalling out Jolteon, Zapdos, Lanturn etc. In my opinion, it's the second best Swampert set next to ResTalk Curse (I have Zapdos already, so it's not needed. Besides, I need SR and Roar).
The EVs are the EVs from the standard Mixpert, except the Special Attack is in Special Defense instead to let me take a few hits from the Special Side. I may swap a move for Surf / Hydro Pump, as I feel I greatly need it, but I don't know exactly which move I should swap, as all of them are too important.
Part two of my defensive core. This Swampert stalls a long time against teams that aren't prepared for it (Only to lose, because I have Toxic Spikes :P). Swampert sets up Roar and Stealth Rock for me, thus being a very important member of this team.
Cresselia @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 Hp / 108 Def / 148 SpD
- Ice Beam
- Psychic
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
Reflect Cresselia, with Moonlight. Normally, I wouldn't even use Cresselia, as Cresselia loses to Tyarniatar pretty easily. Lately however, I have not seen many Tyranitar on the Smogon server, and Reflect really can help me take less Pursuit damage. After considering all that, I decided it was time to try Cresselia.
Bold Nature with 108 Defense and 248 Special Defense gives Cresselia 333 Defense and 333 Special Defense. Reflect lets me take less from random Pursuit from the likes of Scizor and Tyranitar. Ice Beam hits Tyranitar extremely hard. Ice Beam hits Garchomp extremely hard. Psychic gives me a good move to hit Breloom, Machamp, and Infernape. Moonlight may not give me good recovery, but I can't afford Rest.
The final and third part of my defensive core, Cresselia gets rid of the likes of Deoxys-e, Azelf, and Breloom for me, a few potential threats. It also sets up Reflect so that my other Pokemon won't take as much from Physical moves. On top of it all, it's my main counter to the most deadly Pokemon in the OU metagame, Garchomp.
I'll tell you the Synergy first.
