Join us in #stark on irc.synirc.net for discussion primarily geared towards competitive Pokemon. Topics include competitive strategy, Pokemon tiering, and team discussion.

While in the past, it was only possible for most users to attain voice, the new #stark will be more liberal with status, applying also HalfOp ranking. #stark will also follow a "contribute for status" policy; meaning those who actively contribute to the chat, both in maintaining and beginning worthwhile discussions, will be recognized in the form of VoPs -> HOps -> and eventually AOps.

While you're here, you can join #smogon, as well!

Bah, move it to coldfront (where all my other IRC based games are) and I'll consider it.

That or tell me how to have 2 servers open simultaneously in mIRC ;)

Well, what are the benefits of voice? I didn't find it useful when I had voice for a little while.

It's a sign of respect and status basically, and you can talk when the chat is moderated (but I don't think it would be).

Oh, and you can do VOp notices where only voiced users and up can see them!

I have a little question:

I joined IRC about 15 days ago through mIRC, and after 30 days, I cannot go to IRC through mIRC without paying. So, is there any other way to reach IRC for free? (forever? ;p)

Even though it says that, if you just wait a little and let you in.

Edit: Yeah, I'm sure. It says I've been using it for 704 days, but it still lets me in if I wait long enough.
 
Yeah, it did that for me too, just wait a few seconds, and the continue box becomes ungreyed. It's weird how #stark seems to be the only active smogon channel I see when I go on.

Although mIRC is very commonly used, there are other IRC clients available. Some of my friends use Pidgin. (I use Konversation, but as far as I know it's Linux-only.)
 
If you use Mozilla Firefox as your main browser, you can also download an add-on called "Chatzilla", which is a useful IRC client made specifically for Firefox users. That is what I use, considering my X-Chat client expired or some crap like that.
