Ummm... before you say this is bad gimmick, mind hearing my story?

So when I wrote my first BSS RMT, Solerme thankfully stopped by and left a good rate, recommending me WP Aegislash in place of SD Aegislash I had. But I still had some issues dealing with Mega Salamence because despite my team had Tapu Bulu, Grassy Terrain doesn't last forever and Adamant Salamence would KO Aegislash with +1 Earthquake. So I tried doing different things, and the set below deals with most threats I was concerned with.

Pretty much this set is a staple on my team if my team struggles with threats like Garchomp, Mega Salamence, and Excadrill. With right predictions, this set can switch in for free. Also although it is worn down easier than Leftover sets when facing teams with Tapu Lele or others, I usually find better matchups against aforementioned threats worth it.

I dropped Flash Cannon and chose HP Ice because specifically for my team, Fairy-types were pretty dead weigh (considering how I have Heatran and other Pokemon around). Anyways, I don't know if this set is better titled "AB Aegislash" or "HP Ice Aegislash", but yeah, this is probably the second-most Aegislash set for me aside from WP.

252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 192-228 (104.3 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 49-58 (26.4 - 31.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
(According to my experience most Sand Rush Excadrill variants are Life Orb or Z-crystal. Any prior damage dealt will let Aegislash pick off the revenge kill easily)

Here we have the one true aegislash set we have all been waiting for: Iron defense aegislash. The Defense is enormous. There's basically no point in trying to defeat this set. It can set up on even your strongest attackers. Mega Salemence, Phys def landog, gliscor, they all melt in front of this hunk ^.^

Throwing toxics for days, this shield makes hulu plus look like... idk some inferior video watching platform, such as hotmail.com or screen-cast-o-matic (which is what I record my minecraft LP on btw). at +6 defence gliscor cannot touch this sword even in sword form, which allows a victory for this sharp boi, who's edge is sharper than the Moon!

*ahm* Anyways this set does actually work for countering these mons thanks to iron defense + toxic / sball along with leftovers recovery, which usually will let this set KO the lando, mence, gliscor, etc, while also allowing aegislash to cripple most switch-ins with its moves.
4 Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 84-102 (50.2 - 61%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Mega Salamence Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 74-88 (44.3 - 52.6%) -- 16.8% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aegislash-Shield: 60-72 (35.9 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

NOVED gave me a team for BSPL with this on it and it quickly became one of my favourites to use. It just works as a hit and run mon that can hit stuff hard repeatedly, particularly switches, which sets it apart from the standard Z move set (or even weakness policy) as that's a one time sort of thing.

There aren't really any notable calcs I can provide because I just know they're all inferior to the Z move in raw power, but for continuous output this thing is really cool as it can 2HKO heaps of bulky stuff that wants to switch in like Hippo, Steela, Ferro, Venu, Pex, Lando, Fini, Primarina etc

Brave Nature

Head Smash has absurd power, but at the cost of dealing significant recoil damage. This set offers the benefits of Head Smash without its heavy recoil through Rockium Z, giving Aegislash access to a 200 BP Continental Crush. King's Shield weakens physical Fire-types, allowing Aegislash to survive some rather powerful hits and KO with Continental Crush. Sacred Sword bops Dark-, Steel-, and Rock-types most efficiently and Shadow Sneak is for picking off the KOes that Continental Crush misses out on.

Ghostium-Z is pretty much Aegislash's best set so it stands to reason the bootleg version of it would be the next best thing ( but really, this looks cool)

Choice Aegislash is a very underrated strategy. I've had pretty good success with Choice Band (RIP greg the aegislash never forget) and this is largely the same concept, except it can take down physical walls.

Congratulations to cant say for winning this week's Next Best Thing! Your submission will be logged in the Archive!
This week's subject is pretty shocking, it's none other than one of the genies of healthy meta: Thundurus-T*! Thundurus-T can pack a real wallop as a setup-sweeper with Nasty Plot plus a Z-move (Fightinium and Electrium being the most common) or act as a great revenge killer with a Choice Scarf. So, with all that in mind, what is The Next Best Thing (TM) for Thundurus-T?

You have until Saturday (10/28) at 9:00 p.m. EST (GMT-4) to post your submissions. Best of luck to everyone!

*This week is just Thundurus-T, not regular Thundurus.

One might wonder, why would Psychium Z be necessary when +2 Psychic OHKO's 252 HP Mega Venusaur and Life Orb might be better. But this set has couple niche:

1) Popping fat 'mons

+2 252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 236 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 149-176 (85.1 - 100.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Hippowdon: 199-235 (92.5 - 109.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Due to infamy of Thundurus-T's HP Ice, stuff like Garchomp and Landorus-T are just discouraged from switching in. This causes people to switch in bulky walls such as AV Tapu Bulu and SpDef Hippowdon which are severely dented or outright OHKO'd with good rolls.

2) Charizard match-up

Mostly Thundurus-T struggles predicting against Charizard because Mega Charizard X resists Eletric-type moves, meaning it can live a hit, set up, and KO back. Overpredicting and using Focus Blast is going to screw over the match if Charizard turns out to be Mega Charizard Y. Now no such concerns are necessary:

+2 252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 164 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 246-290 (141.3 - 166.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y: 192-226 (125.4 - 147.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Unboosted Shattered Psyche finish both of them after Stealth Rock.

--

So this set still nails stuff without carrying Grass Knot and forgoing Focus Blast. I mean not having HP Ice sucks but most Electric-types shaped the meta to make Ground-types wary of HP Ice from everything soz....

Tired of those pesky Water/Ground types walling your HP Ice and generally missing on your Focus Blast? Wish you had a better way to dunk on Mamoswine or Hippowdon because of an inaccurate/weak move? Want a way to hit basically most of the things HP Ice can, but have a little extra utility on it?

Hi Billy Mays Ace here with the patented Grass Knot.

Ok but in all due seriousness. Grass Knot is a very underutilized move for Thundurus-T although granted it does see some usage on the ladder. It's annoying af having to face down things like Swampert, Mamoswine, Hippowdon, and either your strong hit has a tendency to miss (Focus Blast) or your move is just too damn weak to hit it (HP Ice), so Grass Knot bridges the gap between those 2.

As for why I chose Grassium Z, with your 160 BP Bloom Doom Z-Move, you can smack down a couple of things that HP Ice can after a single Nasty Plot boost, or have a nice neutral option vs things that resist Electric.

This set has enough bulk to take even a weak supereffective attack (for istance, Ice Beam from p2 or non STAB unboosted Rock Slide), using the combination of Salac Berry and Nasty Plot.
The speed hits 138, meaning that at +1 it would outspeed base 135 such as Mega Lopunny, and cripple those 202 speed that have a +1 over the 201 speed benchmark.
Substitute is there to activate the berry on slower mons if needed, but you can also go for offensive coverage.

Yeah so I'm nominating physical Thund-T because it runs over the specially bulky mons that can kinda check it, namely Chansey. Yeah regular Thundurus is faster and has a higher attack stat, but that doesn't lure in specially bulky mons like Thund-T does.

- Substitute / Gk / HP Ice

+1 252 Atk Thundurus-T All-Out Pummeling (180 BP) [Hammer Arm] vs. 44 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 342-404 (103.3 - 122%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This thing really doesn't have many options outside its standard sets. AV / Psychium are decently popular as well so yeah thought I would do something totally different....

Banned deucer.
ThickFatAzumarill's Assault Vest

This allows thundy to surprisingly live hits from in unexpected situations and lets it sometimes handle stuff like Zard Y or others.

I'm going to leave voting open for a few more days due to the lack of votes, so make sure to vote if you haven't already!
