The Next Best Thing...

Meaning you don't even have one reliable move before Hone Claws, which pretty much screws you over all the time.
Which is why you set up HC with Kyurem's nice bulk :|
You can't always do that.
True, but there are a number of common walls you can set up on, so usually you can find the chance
You can do it on great parts of the current meta.

Would you three please move this to a PM or something? kokoloko may be willing to tolerate conversations in his threads, but I don't want it in mine. The purpose of this thread is to discuss varying movesets of a select Pokemon and why or why not they shouldn't be used. An argument regarding one of the moves is not. If there was other content to your posts, I wouldn't have said anything, but because they're only about that argument, I'm going to have to ask you guys to move said argument to PM or VM. Hell, fight about it on IRC if you want, just not in my thread.

Sorry about that, Feel free to delete those comments (since my set is being ''discussed'', I take full responsibility)

Kyurem @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 216 Spd / 40 Atk
Hasty/Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Roost/Draco Meteor/Dragon Pulse
- Iron Head/Outrage

For a change Kyurem can actually make use of it's bad defensive typing and common weaknesses. It usually has the bulk to take a SE hit, which activates it's Weakness Policy. At +2 Kyurem has an insane amount of power, being able to 2HKO things like Umbreon after rocks with Ice Beam. Ice Beam is Kyurem's main STAB move, able to OHKO or 2HKO almost everything that doesn't resist it at +2. Earth Power is the best coverage move for Kyurem, as it hits most things Ice Beam can't hit.

I'm not exactly sure yet what kind of Kyurem works best with the Weakness Policy, so the other 2 moveslots are pretty flexible. You could use SubRoost, or just an all-out attacker. You can run Dragon Pulse or Draco Meteor for a secondary STAB, but Ice Beam already hits most things Dragon Pulse hits, and Draco Meteor is kinda counterproductive with the Weakness Policy (although it doesn't always activate). You can run Roost for recovery, or Substitute to get a free turn after taking a weak hit or to prevent things like status and leech seed. You can also run Iron head or Outrage. Iron head to hit fairies, in particular Florges, and Outrage to hit other special walls, like Jellicent.

The ev spread allows Kyurem to outspeed max speed Adamant/Modest base 100's, aswell as Timid/Jolly base 90's. If you use Substitute you might want to invest 52 ev's in HP. This way can you make 101 HP substitutes, meaning that a single Seismic Toss/Night Shade can't break the sub (these moves aren't common in UU, however).

Kyurem can sometimes be a bit slow to be a sweeper, so Sticky Web support is pretty good. If you use Sticky Web, you can alter the speed ev's to outspeed certain things after Sticky Web, allowing you to be able to invest more in Attack or HP. Of course you need a Spinner/Defogger, since Kyurem is weak to every kind of hazard.

Way to let this die guys.

Voting for the best set is now open! Simply respond with the name of who you think should win this week! Voting will last for 3 days, then a new Pokemon will be chosen.

there has not been a single replay of any of the sets in action. i suppose some people might actually test out the sets before using them but really the overwhelmingly vast majority of people would be too lazy to do that.

it's extremely hard to see which sets are good by just looking at constant theory and looking at damage calculations in a vacuum. can't you make it a requirement Mazz to post replays because this is honestly a little ridiculous to think you can have any meaning out of this activity.

well as long as we're not changing the format of this i vote for bouffalant

(but really you should change this)

No, I really shouldn't have to change this. The BW UU version of this project went off without a hitch, and battle logs weren't a requirement then. Naturally, this means they won't be this time around either. This is essentially a theorymon project; supply logs if you want to emphasize your point. Having the ability to discern what is practical and what isn't should be enough to place a vote.

and you do realize mazz that barely a single set actually became popular in either tour or ladder play right, in the last generation? because there was loads of shit that could have been cleared (like wtf mud sport blastoise) if there was a battle log requirement.

asking for logs is almost NOTHING at all if you use the set. all you do is click one little button. if you don't use the set then you really shouldn't be posting here...testing is vastly superior to pure theory as any competent player would know.

the only worry i would have with this is cherry picking logs but you really you can like trust other humans.

you ought to take my suggestions seriously.

just because we did something last generation doesn't mean you can't be smart enough to fix it up and make it better this generation mazz.

I highly doubt that with the help of logs that Mud Sport Blastoise becomes a thing. Because I have a hard enough time coaxing screenshots of ladder rankings out of Research Week participants, I'm not about to make battle logs a requirement for submitting a set.

If you want, provide your own logs of the sets posted to prove their worth, or supply logs when putting reasoning behind your vote. I will not budge on this position; this project is designed to encourage critical thinking while designing a set and find any untapped potential in the classic "standards", not revolutionize the meta game via a game-breaking set.

If you have any other concerns, throw me a pm.
