The Old Regime

Divide and Conquer...or something like that.

Introduction

Hey, everyone. So I’ve been using this team for a while now… Well, actually, you could say this is the only team that I had ever really laddered with consistently for any period of time. It hadn’t changed much from when I first stumbled upon the Metagame, barring a few slot changes here and there to keep up with the changing trends. This team has won me many battles and I’m fairly proud of it. But of course, there’s always room for improvement. So, rate, praise, hate, or steal, it’s up to you. Tell me what you think. All comments will be much appreciated.

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Veil
EV: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Impish nature (Atk+ / SpA-)
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Roost

Description:

I guess I was looking for a Pokemon that could lead/support decently. As my team works best with the rocks on the field, it was essential that this Pokemon could get Stealth Rock up fairly fast. But I was also looking for a Pokemon that could stand to take a few hits. This is where Gliscor comes in. STAB Earthquake 2HKOes Tyranitar and OHKOes Lucario and hits a number of other switch ins pretty hard and Stone Edge is to counter switch ins like Gyrados, Salamence, and Zapdos. Roost for recovery.
th485-m.png
Heatran (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power
- Explosion

Description:

Scarftran is, in my opinion, one of the greatest revenge killers of all time. Fire Blast is for Scizor, Lucario, Celebi, Jirachi, and an assortment of other steel, bug, and grass types. Earth Power hits Heatran and fire types thinking they can come for a Flash Fire bonus hard. HP Ice is for the dragons and flying types and Explosion is the absolute last option for persistent Pokemon that just won’t die.

i_serebii_s.gif
Celebi @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 36 HP/222 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Earth Power
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Description:

While Celebi is more known for its defensive and supporting capability, make no mistake; this one is on the team purely because of its ability to utterly decimate the opposition if they're unprepared. Leaf Storm hurts pretty much anything that doesn't resist and with Life Orb and max special attack, not to mention STAB, many of the Pokemon (like Tyranitar) that can usually cause so much problems for this little grass fairy doesn’t stand a chance. Earth Power is to put a heavy dent on fire Pokemon that switch in, HP Fire is to damage Lucario, Roserade, Scizor, and others, and U-turn is to get the freaking hell out if Celebi can’t scratch it and so I can easily switch into another Pokemon.
i_sandaa_s.gif
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/222 Def/36 Spd
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Roar
- Hidden Power [Grass]

Description:

I can not even begin to tell you how much I love Zapdos. I can easily switch him on many top tier Pokemon and come out a alive. Heatwave is for Scizor, Thunderbolt is for DD Gyarados that come in on another one of my Pokemon thinking it can set up and other water and flying types, and HP Grass for Swampert. Roar over Roost because it has saved me countless times from bad match ups and is great for general annoyance and Sweepers trying to set up.

i_goukazaru.gif
Infernape (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 24 Atk/234 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Close Combat
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Fire Blast
- Grass Knot

Description:

This is a pretty generic Infernape and he acts as the wallbreaker on this team. Close Combat is mainly for Blissey and all other normal types that I seem to have a hard time with for some reason or another. HP ice is obviously for the dragons like Salamence and flying types like Gliscor. Fire Blast deal tons of damage to anything that doesn’t resist and puts a dent in most things that do and Grass Knot for coverage on water and ground types like Swampert.

i_kingudora.gif
Kingdra (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sniper/Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall
- Outrage

Description:

My late game sweeper. Well, sort of. I usually try to get Kingdra in when there’s a chance he would force a switch or the rest of the team had dealt with the major players of the team I’m battling and Substitute right off the bat and sweep once I get up a couple of Dragon Dances. Pretty self exclamatory. Waterfall and Outrage can deal a lot of damage after a few Dragon Dances.

Threat List

Blissey: Infernape can OHKO with Close Combat.
Bronzong: Heatran and Infernape can usually come in on a well predicted Gyro Ball and hit it with Fire Blast.
Celebi: Infernape and Heatran can take it out.
Dusknoir: Heatran can come in on pretty much any move and wear it down.
Forretress: Heatran and Infernape,
Gliscor: Kingdra.
Gyarados: Celebi is really the best choice here.
Hippowdon: Celebi with Leaf Storm takes care of this guy pretty quickly. Kingdra also. Doesn't like Infernape too much either.
Jirachi: Heatran, Zapdos, Kingdra, Infernape... Meh.
Rotom-H: Heatran works best here.
Skarmory: Eh, this team doesn't really like any Pokemon that abuses Whirlwind, but otherwise, Heatran is a pretty safe bet.
Snorlax: Infernape with Close Combat.
Swampert: Zapdos is the best route to go with HP Grass. Celebi with Leaf Storm as well.
Tentacruel: Zapdos probably.
Tyranitar: Celebi lures T-tar out and OHKOs with Leaf Storm.
Vaporeon: Pretty much set up fodder for Kingdra. Celebi can OHKO.
Azelf: Heatran can cover this guy.
Breloom: Revenge killed with Heatran. Celebi too possibly.
Dragonite: Zapdos can roar it out to rack up Stealth Rock damage. Then Heatran with HP Ice.
Electivire: Celebi or Heatran with Earth Power hurts. Gliscor also.
Gengar: Heatran and Zapdos.
Heatran: Gliscor or Heatran with Earth Power. Can also be lured out by Celebi and hit with Earth Power.
Infernape: Kingdra works best here.
Jolteon: Celebi can come in and take it out with Earth Power.
Kingdra: Celebi with Leaf Storm.
Lucario: Gliscor can do lots of damage with Earthquake. Zapdos can hit it with Heat Wave too. Heatran can revenge kill.
Magnezone: Gliscor is the best bet.
Mamoswine: Some prediction and Infernape with Close Combat can deal with it.
Metagross: Gliscor with Earthquake. Zapdos can also wear it down with Heat Wave.
Salamence: Heatran with HP Ice. Kingdra with Outrage. Gliscor with Stone Edge hurts too.
Scizor: Scarftran with Fire Blast. Zapdos with Heatwave. Infernape with Fire Blast.
Starmie: Have to watch out for Ice Beam, but otherwise Zapdos can take care of it.
Togekiss: Zapdos.
Weavile: Heatran and Kingdra mostly.
Suicine: Set up fodder for Kingdra.
Zapdos: Gliscor with Stone Edge as long.

HI.

Firstly there are much better leads you could be using. Infernape can disrupt the opponent setting up there stealth rocks or set up his own. Or both.

Secondly. You have two Fire types. For good coverage i would swap heatran for Lucario. you could swap Lucario for infernape of course but you will want heatran to be on a lead set. He is just as good. its up to you. It depends how much you want to set up stealth rocks or how much you want to stop the other guy.i would swap heatran out.

Kingdra is ok, but he isnt great. Im not talking personally about yours, im generalizing. You are better of Putting Gliscor last and haveing a Tyranitar Coming out just before him. T-tar is very powerful and not only can he use Multiple sets to your choosing, but he will help to set up a Sandstorm to Make Gliscors evasion.

With Gliscors evasion bonus and Roost you can swap stealth rock for multiple other moves. maybe Swords dance ? And he would be a deadly Force. he is already Ev's well for that set up being done bulkily.

Anyway. Its Pretty good. these are just suggestions. Its still your team and im not expecting you to do these things. Good luck

You need to switch your Kingdra's ability to swift swim. You're going to get decimated by Swift Swim teams. At least with swift swim kingdra you might have the chance to stop those sweeps. Look in defenses for other types of teams like Trick Rook, Hail, and the aforementioned rain dance teams among others. Good-luck!

Hey decent team you have here, looks good,

Gliscor: Not much to say you have 3 things on your team weak to Ice, might change one of them because it doesn't look too good on your team so I'd keep Gliscor because it's a great lead so the only thing you might want to change is add 4 EVs to speed to outspeed other Gliscor leads rather then a taunt speed tie. The other thing that's huge is change Stone Edge into Taunt it'll save you in the long run against things that'll sleep you or setup. You said in a lot of your descriptions that'll be able to counter gyarados im pretty sure Stone edge won't help a lot due to his attack.

Heatran: Might want to keep this looks pretty good on your team unless you want to change it to a different set it's your choice.

Celebi: I like the offensive celebi a lot but you might want to switch it into a different version like Tinkerbell set because it adds on HP while you just take off Uturn for Thunder wave which in my opinon doesn't matter since you'll be able to kill most pursuiters like Scizor on Ttar with either Leaf storm or HP fire so here's the set you might want:

Celebi @ Life Orb
EVs: 232 HP / 244 SpA / 32 Spe
Nature: Modest
Moveset:
Leaf Storm
HP Fire
Thunder Wave
Recover / Earth power ( I recommend recover )

Zapdos: For Zapdos you might want to change the whole pokemon because you have a lot of things weak to Ice on your team so you might just want to change it into Rotom which counters Scizor and also destroys Gyarados so you might want to try the pain split set because you store a lot amount of Hit points and it's just a great overall set:

Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
252 HP / 188 Speed / 70 Defense
Subsitute
Will O Wisp / Toxic
Pain Split
Thunderbolt

Sets great for stalling Blissey and countering Lucario pretty well by outspeeding it also outspeed Gyarados and Scizor can't do too much after Will-O-Wisp.

Infernape: Not much to say other then I think right now in the metagame HP-ice doesn't do too much so you might want to change it to Nasty plot to OHKO Suicune with Grass knot and OHKO Gliscor with Fire blast for sure, you might want to worry about some dragons unless they're in low amounts of HP but other then that this is a great set.

Kingdra: Probably my favorite pokemon, keep the set looks great.

Hope my analysis helped and hope this team will receive more wins, Good luck.

Hi Kronolily.

The first thing I notice when I look at your team is your huge Tyranitar weakness. Tyranitar is a very common threat, so you should surely be ready for it since it you'l surely encounter it. Many of your team members give it plenty of opportunities to setup or unleash powerful attacks. It resists every move Heatran has to offer except for Earthpower wich doesnt even 2HKO it. Zapdos is completely walled and HP Grass won't even scratch it and Scarf Tyranitars wich are increasing insanely outspeed Celebi and OHKO with Crunch. CB Tyranitar is especially dangerous because if it manages to come in safely it can unleash Stone Edges that none of your Pokemons can take.

Your second weakness is Salamence. DD versions get plenty of opporunities to setup. For example, Heatran locked onto Earthpower and Celebi. If it does get the DD, your whole team is OHKO'ed except for Celebi and Gliscor which are 2HKOed by Outrage.

Latias is also especially dangerous to your team as it walls Heatran, Zapdos, Infernape and Celebi (to an extent). It also outspeeds Kingdra and can OHKO it with it's dragon move as well as Gliscor with Surf/Draco Meteor.

These are all very common threats in the OU metagame and not having checks to those is foolish since you will surely come across thos three countless times and you will be swept with ease. Now to solve this problem, we're going to have to change a Pokemon. I've noticed Zapdos is utterly useless on your team. Scizor is already covered by a combination of Heatran and Infernape. You say in your description that Thunderbolt is for DD Gyarados but Gyara outspeeds you and OHKOes with Stone Edge. You also mention that it helps you against Swampert, however you already have Celebi with Leaf Storm and Infernape with Grass Knot. So Zapdos has to go. The only thing I can suggest here without opening up another weakness is a CB Scizor. While it doesn't 100% counter Tyranitar, by replacing Zapdos, we've reduced the chances of it coming in safely and it can be revenge killed easily with Bullet Punch. Latias is also trapped and pursuited. Salamence is revenge killed easily after trapping it onto an Outrage.

Scizor @ CB
Adamant / Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Moves: Bullet Punch / U-turn / Pursuit / Superpower

Even though CB Scizor counters Tyranitar, some carry Babiri Berry and Fire Punch to beat you after DD. To ensure these aren't a problem, use a physically based MixApe with Mach Punch instead of your current one to OHKO any DD Tyranitar.

Finally, on Gliscor, it's your lead, so you want to make sure it beats other leads. Stone Edge isn't helpful against any particularly common lead. A better move to use would be Taunt or U-Turn, prefferably Taunt since it prevents the foe's lead from setting up SR and racing up residual damage. Also, just max out speed in order to ensure that you beat other Gliscor leads and taunt them first: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe.

Hope I helped and gl.

edit: By using CB Scizor, you give more opportunities for DD Gyarados to setup which makes your team a bit Gyara weak, to remedy this, simply use a more defensive Celebi moveset and EV Spread to ensure that you counter it. Just use 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 Spd and Grass Knot, Thunderwave, Recover, HP Fire and Leftovers with a Bold Nature.

First off, I'll like to say thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate all the help. =)

@Nick0_92 - To be honest though, I rather not swap Heatran for any other Pokemon. This team sort of started off pretty 'Celetran-centric', and he rarely fails me as a revenge killer. As for dropping Stealth Rock on Gliscor, all the extra damage the rocks causes really helps this team. Lead Ape is something I never tried, so I'll take that into consideration.

@pkmntrainertodd: Thanks, I hadn't played in a while, so I hadn't noticed the increase in Rain Dance/Hail/Sandstorm teams.

@Abutorn - Gliscor does get status'd a lot, so I'll test out Taunt and see how it works. I'll also try what you recommended for Celebi. Nasty Plot Ape however is a freaking pain to set up.

@Nosferalto - Mmm, CB Scizor isn't that bad of an idea. Fast Pursuit weak Pokemon like Starmie and Gengar have been giving me all kind of trouble. Another Pokemon to check Blissey is pretty good too.

I've been considering dropping Gliscor for a Mamoswine lead since I had it on the team in the very beginning and I've been having problems with dragons as of late without it.

Mamoswine @ Focus Slash/Life Orb
Snow Cloak/Jolly nature (+Spd,-SAtk) *To outspeed other Mamoswine leads
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Moves: Stealth Rock/Ice Shard/Earthquake/Stone Edge or Roar

Good idea or bad idea?

If you're going to change Gliscor, which is a good idea in my opinion since Gliscor isn't a great lead, don't use Mamoswine. I would strongly recommend using Swampert as a lead. Not only is it a great lead, it provides a rock resist so a good switch-in to Tyranitar's Stone Edge and with Ice Beam it can check Salamence. It fits your team perfectly as this with CB Scizor will solve all your weaknesses. Use this:

Swampert @ Leftovers
Relaxed / Torrent
EV Spread: 252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpAtk
Moves: Surf / Ice Beam / Earthquake / Stealth Rock
