The Only Effective Baton Pass Team (OU)

Behind the Walls... (OU RMT)

Uxie @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/180 Def/76 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Memento
- Stealth Rock-(Psychic)
---
Before i rate this guy I going to say this one thing: Yes I do know taunt kills this set except for Psychic.

Now on with the pokemon. This uxie has two purposes. First to put screens up and maybe stealth rock, and then memento for crippling annoying problem pokemon or set up for other pokes, most notably Mr. Mime. If the Uxie is taunted, then i switch to my own taunter, Gliscor, who is by then not known to have taunt. Its pretty simple actually and doesn't really have much else to say about it. I used to have subpassers as the lead, but after trying this guy i fell in love because behind screens, this guy is invincible and also, screens don't just disappear after one attack... mostly.

Mr. Mime (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 252 HP/216 Spd/40 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Barrier
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Grass Knot-Thunderbolt
---
Mr. Mime is the main reason why I have screen support as my lead. Behind screens, Mr. Mime is much more durable and is able to put up a couple barriers to prolong his life and then do calm minds untill i then baton pass. To the respective pokemon that will be mentioned later. Mr. Mime is the best choice in my opinion for setting up bulky special based pokemon. Grass Knot is for killing annoying rock types that uxie may have mementoed *cough* tyranitar *cough* swampert *cough*

Gliscor (M) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 HP/60 Spd/196 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rock Polish
- Swords Dance-(Stone Edge)
- Taunt
- Baton Pass
---
Gliscor is my physical attack baton passer. First i taunt roarers/whirlwinders/taunters and then i rock polish. Then if i feel safe, i swords dance then baton pass when I'm done. The main reason why i chose gliscor is because it is bulky enough to take hits. My only problem with it is that I can't hit anything with it because it has no attacks at all. It doesn't even have roost to stay alive if its the last pokemon and there just so happens to be a weather effect waning down the opposing pokemon's hp. The yache berry helps weaken ice type moves so i can baton pass after at least one rock polish.

Now on to the attackers!

Metagross @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/224 Def/12 Spd
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Thunderpunch
- Ice Punch
- Meteor Mash
---
Metagross is the main/only reciever of gliscor's boosts. This guy can go on with only speed boosts, but when it has an attack boost as well, then u can pretty much assume that you lost. I chose a tanking spread in order to make sure I can live with it even after Gliscor dies. With or without boosts this guy is a force to be reckoned with.

Spiritomb (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/64 Def/46 SAtk/148 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Will-o-wisp -- I'm not sure but even though Will-o-wisp is awesome, im thinking of replacing it with taunt to stop phazers
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Pain Split
---
Spiritomb is not only my favorite pokemon of all time, but it is also one of the most underrated ones. It has no weaknesses and it has some bulk to take advantage of that unlike some pokemon *cough*sableye*cough*. It is also the pokemon that takes advantage of Mr. Mimes defence, special defence, AND special attack boosts. Not only is it an offensive monster, but its also a very good supporter as well. Will-o-wisp destroys physical attackers and in turn boosts my teams defenses. Even if spiritomb had a more reliable recovery move, pain split would still be my move of choice. Since spirtomb's designed to take hits, i usually pain split after i predict an attack from an opponent for maximum hp gain, and maximum hp loss for the other guy. Like most special sets, you would think this would be walled by blissey, but with will-o-wisp and pain split taking advantage of blissey's high hp stat, I can easily stall on it if it doesn't have toxic (which is unlikely). Even with only defence boosts this guy can take out or weaken entire teams.

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 224 HP/84 Atk/200 SDef
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage-(Dragon Claw)
- Roost
- Earthquake
---
"When all else fails, whip out the big one!" This guy can also take advantage of defence boosts by mr. mime and mementos as well as light screen, but it can easily deal without them. I chose Dnite over salamence for its bulk and for the fact that Salamence totally is not amazing at all cuz i hate it. This guy's a last resort poke and a damned good one at that. Plus who needs Extremespeed?

P.S. Dragonite's da BOMB!

also i know i have another thread up but i asked for it to be locked so please don't lock this one

I suggest Dragon Claw over Outrage on Dragonite.
Having a Pokemon with no attacks isn't really good.
so I suggest at least one move on Uxie (eg. Psyshic, Thunderbolt, ...)
and Gliscor (eg. Earthquake, Stone Edge, ...).

Watch out for Ice Shard on both Gliscor and Dragonite, because the is pretty much a gg!

Still nice work ^^

Spiritomb is really not worth it for the special attacker. Since you'll be passing some defensive boosts anyway, IMO the best choice for your special sweeper is Octillery:

Octillery@Lum Berry/Expert Belt (Lum Berry is preferred, allowing you to switch in on status or shrug it off later)
Modest, Suction Cups
252 SpA, 252 HP, 4 Def

~Surf
~Ice Beam
~Flamethrower/Charge Beam (depends whether Scizor or Gyarados is a bigger threat)
~Energy Ball

Octillery has higher special attack than Spiritomb, much better SE coverage (and also has perfect type coverage, albeit requiring more attacks to get that coverage), and the ability Suction Cups, which prevents you from being phazed. Octillery is better with some speed passed to it, and you might consider a Ninjask somewhere in the team to pass speed through Mr. Mime and Gliscor (this would also free Gliscor up for having an attack instead of Rock Polish). Not sure who to replace, though; possibly Metagross since Dragonite can just as well take advantage of Gliscor's BP.

First: I like Black Scizor's ideas and Ive decided to do the following:

I put psychic on uxie in exchange for stealth rock for one, ive replace outrage with dragon claw so steels don't wall me, and I put stone edge on gliscor, so it wouldn't be walled by flying types. ice sharders most notably mamoswine don't tend to bother my team much due to the fact that since spiritomb's my first baton pass recipient usually, i've already gone through the entire team usually and have probably will-o-wisped most of their physical attackers.

for Cuiv, the main reason why i chose spiritomb is because its awesome and it is bulkier and it has pretty passable attack stats. This team isn't pure baton pass, so ninjask is definitely not going to get in there. Ghost and fighting coverage is resisted by honchcrow who is usually phisically based. octillery may be resistant to phazing, but it is also weaker defensively, which is bad if my baton passers die and im left with recipients.

Dragonite isn't part of the Baton pass chain at all for good reason. Thats why its my last resort pokemon.

Mr. Mime wants thunderbolt to kill skarmory who try to phase. Mr. Mime should focus on passing Substitutes, not Barrier, so you don't die to status (especially toxic).

Baton Pass teams are really on the rough side of things. I don't know the exact goals set for the team (looks like one Pokemon supports another); however, in a Baton Pass team there should really be one recipient. I don't know how well last resort does (in fact this should really be a Salamence. Care to explain why it's Dragonite?)

We'll use your Metagross as the main Baton Pass recipient since this would likely be the best one (resistance to priority attacks and decent bulk). Having Gliscor on the team is the first right step: passing Swords Dances are wonderful for Metagross. Except you're putting a shitload of weight on him. Granted I see the reason, but in all honesty the goals should be spread throughout.

I recommend reading this guide to help understand how to use a Baton Pass team effectively. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help, but I think reading this will help you understand the flaws in your team better.
