The Renovated Team Adept. [Doubles]

After a long, long break from the Pokemon video games, I am back! Earlier this year I drifted away from the competitive side of Pokemon, and a few Smogon infractions later I became completely fed up with it all. Then with my first semester of college when I wanted to play, I found myself with no time. Finally, though, it is winter break and I can get back to battling!

Now, this is Team Adept. I originally built and posted the team over a year ago, but coming back into the game, I changed it in anticipation of the current metagame.

Please keep in mind that Team Adept is a PBR Doubles-oriented team, which means that only four Pokemon are used during a battle. When giving suggestions, please adhere to the Item Clause and avoid offering replacements revolving around the addition of anything considered 'legendary'. But above all, thank you for your help!

Weavile @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
Jolly nature
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
- Fake Out
- Ice Punch
- Night Slash
- Brick Break

Hailing straight from, well, my doubles Hail team is a Weavile who works perfectly as an 'anti-lead' lead! Fake Out stops many set-ups as well as disabling fast attackers so I can bring them down with Lucario. Ice Punch and Night Slash are both STAB'd moves that are typically situational. His Break Break accompanies Lucario's Close Combat to ensure knock outs. The rest of Weavile is pretty standard.

Lucario @ White Herb
Ability: Inner Focus
Jolly nature
EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Crunch
- ExtremeSpeed

Lucario has made it onto the team by replacing my Choice Scarf'd Machamp. They both attack with brutality, but Lucario is simply more versatile. This set derives from TheMaskedNitpicker's Mixape with White Herb, except it is a more physical-based Lucario. Close Combat is very powerful and can usually one-shot foes while its partner flinches. Crunch is for the number of ghost running around and ExtremeSpeed allows me to finish off low HP Pokemon. Ice Punch is for coverage, but I'm starting to think that ThunderPunch would be a better choice.

Scizor @ Expert Belt
Ability: Technician
Adamant nature
EVs: 40 HP/252 Atk/216 Spe
- Bullet Punch
- X-Scissor
- Night Slash
- Brick Break

Unfortunately for Scizor, he had to step down as the usual lead so Weavile can help out. Still, Scizor does an excellent job when summoned. Bullet Punch is an amazing attack against leads like Aerodactyl and Froslass as it can take them out in one hit. STAB'd X-Scissor seems to be a very underrated move, especially considering how many knock outs it has netted! Night Slash and Brick Break also add coverage.

Espeon @ BrightPower
Ability: Synchronize
Timid nature
EVs: 252 HP/4 SpA/252 Spe
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Skill Swap
- Sunny Day

Ah! Espeon, my favorite Pokemon! For so long have I wanted to put a usable Espeon on my competitive team. Espeon complements Arcanine well with Sunny Day for support while Grass Knot takes out pesky, bulky water-types. Skill Swap allows Espeon to steal abilities vital to an opponent's strategy, or to 'reuse' Arcanine's Intimidate. Also, Psychic is just to abuse STAB. When fronting an important assault, Espeon can go first with a Sunny Day followed by a boosted Arcanine attack. Speed is key!

Spr_4h_134.png

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Bold nature
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpA
- Helping Hand
- Sunny Day
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump

Long-time member of Team Adept, Vaporeon provides awesome support and synergy for Arcanine when Espeon is not paired with it. Water Absorb deters any Surfs from the opponent, and Sunny Day helps with that, too! Helping Hand significantly boosts Arcanine as well whereas Ice Beam and Hydro Pump help against dragons and other fire-types.

Arcanine @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
Timid nature
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
- Heat Wave
- Dragon Pulse
- SolarBeam
- ExtremeSpeed

The star player of the team is an Intimidating Arcanine. If Vaporeon is on the field with Helping Hand ready and Sunny Day set up, Arcanine packs more heat than one can imagine. Heat Wave hits both opponents with 253 BP each. Dragon Pulse is perfect for dealing with dragons, especially Palkia and Kingdra! SolarBeam is a great Water counter as it doesn't have to charge when in the sun. ExtremeSpeed is there, though, not as an attacking move, but as a priority move to take out Focus Sash users and those weak enough to be knocked out. Also, when Arcanine is sent out, he Intimidates the opponents, which, in the case of physical attackers, limits the power of Earthquakes (and good Rock moves)! It is then that Arcanine is ready to sweep.

So that is Team Adept, an original team. I am very proud of it and I want it to be the best it can be.
Please, I appreciate all help!

PBR is an interesting experience.

I have a few suggestions.
Thunder Punch is better since Lucario can't outspeed Gliscor (as a note)

Why don't you try a SD Scizor? You can keep the expert belt or slap an Iron Plate on, but I think you might want to try a SD Scizor.

I also suggest Wish on Vaporeon over Ice Beam.

Just a few things I saw when looking at your team.

Honestly, I have never seen a Gliscor in serious online play. But I am slightly worried about Gyarados. I think I'll change that move soon.

Why do you think the SD Scizor is superior? I'm curious.

Thank you, though!! :D

I never said it was superior. I suggest it because I don't know whether you want to try a CBzor or SDzor. SD is the closest match I could make to your current Scizor. I would prefer to double Scizor's 394 ATK stat rather than leave it. Generally, most Scizor are either SD or CB. Either one is great really. But Scizor would love some form of a boost to its attack stat to make Bullet Punch even more threatening than it is at the moment.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were implying it was superior.

Hmm. I would love to boost Scizor's strength but I hate the idea of waiting a turn to do so. However, a Choice Band Scizor might work out because he usually only uses one move throughout the match, depending on the overall opposing team. Typically I avoid using Choice Pokemon but I like that idea, which would actually make it superior. ;D

Looks solid but 2 big things for me
1) bug bite would do more damage then x scizor on scizor.
2) focus slash has a much better purpose than white herb on luke because he isnt going to survive an attack anyway.
asid from that i might look at it more indepth later but probably not...

>_>

1. this team is for PBR.. iirc, the PBR hack check wont allow Scizor with Bug Bite.
2. yes. sash is better. but if you want survivablity and an element of surprise, may i suggest a bulky shuca lucario?

Lucario @ Shuca Berry
Adamant l 196 HP / 60 Special Defense / 252 Attack
Swords Dance l Ice Punch l Extremespeed l Close Combat

You basically send this thing in on something that will obviously switch out, and pull and SD. While the counter uses EQ (and you LOL as you survive), you
counter with Close COmbat or Ice Punch, and if it survives, you Extremespeed for the take down. This set is courtesy of Blue Harvest, and it has been proven to work effectively.

sorry i cant rate more effectively... and sorry i couldnt rate like i would for normal teams, since this is only for PBR and the PBR meta is way more different than the standard environment. hopefully you like my suggestions.

That Lucario seems very interesting, but it appears to be better suited for singles...
Unfortunately, while predictable, switching isn't nearly as common on PBR. And, from what I've seen recently, Earthquake-centered strategies have diminished significantly.
