The Rubik's cube

I was asked to solve a Rubik's cube in an interview with Goldmann Sachs Investment Bank. After about 8 minutes, I was almost done, but the guy stopped me. I think it may be why I was not asked to return for a second interview =(

If only I had had one when I was little.
How does solving a Rubik's cube pertain to investing? To solve a cube very quickly requires rote learning of algorithms and minimal dexterity. It seems the decision to not have you for another interview was made before the interviewer asked you to solve the cube. I think he was just an asshole, which is a common characteristic for most of the bankers I know.

It's a test of mental agility, in a pressure situation. Further, the Rubik's cube is an excellent tool for improving memory. The other parts of the interview included an oral mental aritmetic test (23*37 etc.) and walking me into a room, then asking how many golf balls would fit inside it. In the final part, I was asked to interview myself while the guy took notes.

Only about 5% of (thousands of) applicants make it through to the first interview, and by the end of the third interview, that figure is whittled down to 20 interns.

I've never had one but my friend showed me how to get one side all the same so thats what i do if I see one lying around :P
