The Safari Festival (Or, a personal attempt at a metagame)

the problem with being defensive is its horrible typing, being weak to stealth rock and about half the other moves. Especially here, as all the physical sweepers are going to be carrying Stone Edge because of limited options and gyarados.

Again this is just a thought, I'm aware of how... awful it's typing is.

So, to guarentee survival from a max attack, STAB Stone Edge from a Rhyperior, you would need the following:

Yanmega @ Charti Berry
Bold Nature
236 HP, 252 DEF, 22 Sp.ATK
~84.815% - 99.74%

Then Hypnosis, Roost and get the hell out of there. That's assuming he has max attack and is adamant.

Again, just a (failing) thought.

I think Whiscash could be a big tank in this competition. It can take Stone Edges like a pro!
Using the same Rhyperior, look what I got:

Whiscash
Adamant Nature
252 HP, 180 DEF
~31.92% - 37.56%

If that's the prize, I assume you would offer it UT with the punches and Counter?

Although, Body Slam is appealing as well...

Was thinking "BoltBeam" Punches, Body Slam, and Counter. Unless Fire'd be more admirable.

With Brick Break and Focus Punch available in DP, I would think that Fire Punch could be replaced. Fighting and Ice cover it's effectiveness anyway.

Your BoltBeam moveset it what I'll want when I win.
Oh right! I suck at battling!

Haha!
I'm typing this from the internet channel on my Wii. Typing is really slow.

Anyway, what's the latest on Bliss/Gyara/Wobb usage?

Currently probably not / maybe / maybe. And I feel for you. Tried using that channel once myself.

Hmm... Noctowl might be able to get off some nice moves, like a once-off Sky Attack with... whatever that one-turn charge item is...

Let's not forget things like Drapion missing out on Cross Poison, unless coming from an evolved at level 49-50 Skorupi!

With it's 50 base attack power? O.o Just use Staraptor for an offensive flying type I say.

Yanmega loses: Bug Buzz/Whirlwind/Reversal/Signal Beam/Silver Wind/Pursuit

lol wow, what is it going to attack wit? :P

I was looking at the list, and does anyone think there's any use of a Trick Room team? There are plenty of slower Pokemon, but will the "mainstream" teams be made up of relatively fast Pokemon is the question.

Solar Power Trick Room Sunflora could leave a dent in things. :)
Slowbro wouldn't mind it either.

Shuckle, Slowbro, Slowking, Forretress, Rhyperior, Octillery, and Donphan stand the most to gain from Trick Room, or so I think. Octillery's movepool is ridiculously diverse, made only better if it manages to evolve into the Sniper ability from a transfered Remoraid.

Yeah, I think they went a bit overboard with the "cannon" idea of Octillery, giving it every shooting move. xD
I love it though.

The only problem I could see Trick Room running into is that Slowbro/king are the only slow ones that can set it up. Something like Xatu or Girafarig could, but they are fairly fast.

I'm still all for the Mix Scarf Girafarig.

I've been running some simulations, and the two biggest problems are Blissey and Gyarados. Counterexamples to the problems are a team running physical Fighting moves (Staraptor, Heracross). which seem to deal well with Blissey, and Raichu or Ampharos must 1HKO Gyarados, or else DDsweeps run all over the place.

well, that's the problem then isn't it? Gyarados and Blissey are the most powerful pokemon available, and every team will need a fighting move and an electric user, which means you will need counters to gyara and bliss's counters if your using them. It becomes a problem, but nothing that the normal metagame doesn't have already.

Good news, all. Just caught a shiny Kangaskhan after about 3 days of constant Safari Zone playing. <3
EDIT: With holy-sheet IVs. And a usable nature. o.o Naïve #115 Kangaskhan: 28 / 30 / 24 / 28 / 17 / 23
Can anyone say "potential prize"?
EDIT 2: I've made a mention in a few other places on Smogon of a trick to help people find Pokemon they are looking for. Works best in E/D/P, usable to a lesser extent in R/S/FR/LG. Here it is, for reference:
Keep a Synchronizing (E/D/P, any for others) Pokemon in the first spot of your party, one that's a low enough level to keep Pokemon you don't want away, but is the minimum level the Pokemon you do want appears at in the Safari Zone. Obviously, for higher level Pokemon like Miltank and Houndour, this works great. Not so great for Aipom and Pineco.

I know I'm a bit late, but about the Pokemon Ranch event Pokemon...

I think they should be banned. I don't have access to Pokemon Ranch, and unless someone wants to trade them to the people in the tourny that want one on their team, I'd say no.

I think that everyone should have access to all of the Pokemon in the tourny. I'm pretty sure most of us have D/P, Emerald or R/S, and LG/FR. If not, I'm sure people in the tourny would be willing to trade.

Also, I think we should have a 1-2 week "opening" or something, where everyone involved can trade things, and people's teams can be checked to make sure they are all in Safari Balls, with no illegal movesets.

Also, what about items? I'm sure that none would be banned, though.

Well, yeah. Brightpowder is kind of lame, but items like King's Rock and Scope Lens can work on things with Serene Grace, and allowing them would give light to some new movesets.

But, I'm all in for this, and I'll help with setting it up if need be. And, this kind of metagame makes it so people don't need to breed or have good parents, it's just catching Pokemon wild. I like it.

That purpose was the main reason I came up with the idea. I wanted something that was easy to pick up, but also let people take it into as much depth as possible (Synching, catching 50 and choosing the best).

There was another idea that I never pursued, because it was just silly: theme teams based on Routes.

Route teams? Oh, I like that idea. Tiers based on routes?

But, that's probably not a good thing to brainstorm while this is going on. :P

And, I like catching 50 things and choosing the best of them. Better than breeding. I like the idea of luck. :P

Indeed. And, seemingly, my Kangaskhan concurs.
