The surprisingly good random team

Hi, I'm CJorex and this is my new RMT. I kind of just threw this team together, but it has worked surprisingly well. I thought I might like to use some less popular movesets, like Status Orb Conkeldurr and CM Espeon. I am very open to critisism and I am hoping that all you people out there can help me with this.

The Team

Spr_5b_598.png

Ferrothorn @ Shed Shell
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spd
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball

What can I say, Ferrothorn is simply amazing! After setting up Spikes or SR, it can easily hurt opponents with Power Whip and Gyro Ball. I run Shed Shell over Leftovers as Ferrothorn is destroyed by Magnezone, so being able to negate Magnet Pull is a big help. Ferrothorn is also very useful with its huge number of resistances- with resistances to Normal, Rock, Ghost, Steel, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Dragon and Dark, as well as an immunity to Poison, it can come in on almost anything, and is also immune to Toxic! Ferrothorn is a huge help to this team and easily a highly valued team member.

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Trait:
Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Jolteon's speed is simply amazing. This is the main reason I run it. Jolteon is extremely useful, being able to gain momentum with Volt Switch. When they see Jolteon, most people switch to a Ground-type, but most of Jolteon's usual switch-ins are OHKO'd, especially Gliscor, and also Dragonite if Multiscale is broken. Jolteon synergises very nicely with Gyarados, forming the GyaraJolt combination, and also is a great switch-in on any electric-type. I am considering changing the set, however, as it it is just ko'd too easily. I am currently considering a Substitute + Baton Pass set, so please tell me whether or not this is a good idea.
Spr_5b_196.png

Espeon @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Most people use Espeon as a Dual Screens setter, but seeing its 130 SpA and 110 Speed, I just couldn't resist trying an offensive set. This pokemon also works as a counter to stall teams, thanks to its ability, Magic Bounce, which means almost all non-attacking moves are sent back to the opponent. This helps on PS, as there are just so many people who know next to nothing about competitive Pokemon- with Magic Bounce I once tricked a guy into taunting his own Whimsicott! However, on the offense, Espeon is a true monster- Calm Mind on the switch, and then Espeon is almost unstoppable!

Spr_5b_373.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Lonely Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Dance

An absolute monster. These days everyone is using Dragonite, but I personally prefer Salamence due to his better offensive stats (and strangely, HP). He may not have Multiscale, but with Moxie and Dragon Dance he can more than often OHKO Dragonite, even through Multiscale. Salamence is probably the main sweeper on my team, Dragon Dancing up and smashing through everything, while Moxie continually boosts his attack, making him even more unstoppable. Salamence is a truly amazing dragon that I think everyone should try.
Spr_5b_534.png

Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Trait
:
Guts
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Atk / 32 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback
- Facade

Status Orb Conkeldurr is so hugely underrated. I often send him in to revenge kill with Mach Punch, guaranteeing an easy activation of Flame Orb. The residual damage is a bit of a pain, but it is only a little bit more than Life Orb and gives a much higher power boost, as well as immunity to status. I can then often do a bit of a sweep, using Mach Punch on faster foes and Drain Punch on slower foes. Facade is for a powerful move against Flying-types, and Payback for ghosts. it would be nice if he were a bit faster, but it does mean I have a counter to Trick Room.

Gyarados @ Life Orb
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

And finally, the last member of my team, and everyone's favourite sea serpent, Gyarados. This set works almost identically to the Salamence above, just with different moves. Waterfall is there as STAB, but I usually use Earthquake or Stone Edge becaused of the better coverage. Thanks in part to his huge attack, Gyarados can easily OHKO or 2HKO most threats, and his typing means he synergises excellently with Jolteon, forming the GyaraJolt combination. Gyarados is a great sweeper, a wonderful backup to Salamence and an excellent Pokemon all-round.

Jolteon @ Life Orb
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP

Hey,

Cool team CJorex. I thought that a major threat to your team was Reuniclus. The Calm Mind variant can set up on either Ferrothorn or Jolteon and hit all of your team members hard at +1 and has the bulk to take your Super Effective hits against it. The Trick room variant will outspeed you whole team besides Ferrothorn inside of Trick Room, and can wipe your team out with its powerful attacks.

First off, your Salamence set looks a bit weird to me. Running a Naughty nature leaves you prone to being revenge killed by Scarf base 100's and Haxorus, Hydreigon and Genesect can revenge you as well. Try a Naive > Naughty nature to at least speed tie and attempt a KO on these key threats. With the massive use of Genesect right now, and the new found popularity of Scarf Jirachi the +Speed nature is greatly appreciated on Salamence. A few small changes could be made to Conkelldurr too. Facade is a good move for Conkelldurr, but it doesn't offer anything much coverage wise. Considering the fact that your current set doesn't like Gliscor at all, I think you should switch Ice Punch > Facade. Ice Punch not only lets you hit Gliscor hard, it also hits the powerful Dragons of OU for Super effective damage, which is really nice. I would also set your speed IV's to 1Spe. Why 1? It lets you beat other Conkelldurr that run 0 speed and still maximizes Payback's potential, so is a good switch.

Looking at your Ferrothorn, I think it really conflicts with your team. It offers a nice set of resistances, but its abilty to set up hazards is really neutralized by the fact that Espeon can get the up for you if you predict well enough. This leaves Ferrothorn down to providing you guaranteed hazards, which may be cool but its not necessary. I thought that your team would really like to have a revenge killer that could take on +1 threats to your team such as DDHaxorus and other boosting sweepers. I thought that using Choice Scarf Genesect > Ferrothorn would be a great fit the team as it retains the cool steel typing that Ferrothorn had, it posses blazing speed with a scarf on and it will heavily damage the majority of the tier once its had its download boost activated. Genesect suits your offensive play style far more, and doesn't offer set up opportunities like Ferrothorn does. If you really feel you need guaranteed hazards, then sure keep Ferro, but it isn't all that necessary really. Genesect handily removes your Reuniclus weakness with his powerful +1 U-turns

Just a bit of minor change. Try running SubDD set on Gyarados to somehow differentiate it on Salamence. Not much will change but it's actually a good one. First off, not much teams carry Electric-type attacks, most only running Volt Switch Rotom-W or Thundurus-T. For this you can easily set up especially in the face of bulky waters who lack things like Roar, Perish Song or the like. Here's the set:

Thanks, but Genesect didn't really wprk for me. The other changes are good, though.
