[SET]
Aerilate (Dragonite) @ Pinsirite / Salamencite
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch / Facade / Roost
[SET COMMENTS]
Aerilate Dragonite sacrifices its defensive utility to become a more offensively potent setup sweeper; it uses its already good Attack stat boosted by Pinsirite as well as Multiscale pre-Mega Evolution to maul defensive staples like Pecharunt, Hippowdon, and Ho-Oh that Altarianite variants struggle with while still keeping its revenge killing prowess for Urshifu-R and Spectrier. Salamencite is also a usable option if a teammate is already using Pinsirite, as it still gives Aerilate as well as boosting Dragonite's Defense, which can come in handy with setting up. Earthquake lets Dragonite deal with Pokemon like Raging Bolt and non-Latiasite Magearna and Garganacl that would otherwise give Dragonite major trouble. Fire Punch prevents Dragonite from being completely countered by Corviknight and Latiasite Magearna, while Facade allows Dragonite to take advantage of burns from Arceus-Water, Milotic, and Ho-Oh, as well as poison from Pecharunt and Eternatus. If more longevity is required, Roost can be used in order to keep Dragonite healthy in the span of longer games. The Speed EVs allow Dragonite to outspeed Pinsirite Magearna unboosted. Aerilate Dragonite has an amazing offensive presence, but due to its Stealth Rock weakness and overall limited longevity, it is only usable on more offensive teams. Dragonite appreciates entry hazard control from removers like Great Tusk and Regieleki or Sablenite users like Swampert and Magearna, so it doesn't take huge damage from Stealth Rock and can keep Multiscale active before Mega Evolving. Hazard setters like Swampert, Great Tusk, and Magearna help wear down Dragonite's checks like defensive Arceus formes, Great Tusk, and Raging Bolt. They also help in checking Altarianite Extreme Speed users like Hisuian Arcanine, Regieleki, and opposing Dragonite, preventing them from revenge killing it. Pokemon like Entei, Lunala, and Great Tusk can also help in wearing down Dragonite’s checks, as they can break down walls Dragonite heavily struggles with like Arceus-Fairy, Arceus-Water, and Ho-Oh for it to sweep, and vice versa. Other Pokemon that can deal with the aforementioned walls, like Raging Bolt and Iron Crown, are also greatly appreciated.
