The Ubers OU Team [5th Gen OU]

So I was checking out the new banlist the other day, and thinking about how destructive the some of the newly OU Pokemon would be in the metagame. That's what this team is all about-utilizing formerly Uber Pokemon in OU. The underlying philosophy of this team is to always keep offensive pressure on the opponent. No spinblocker? You're dead before you Rapid Spin. You spin my stuff away anyway? You're DEAD. That's what this team does.

So without further ado...

deoxys-fr.png

Deoxys-A @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- ExtremeSpeed
- Psycho Shock
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

Deoxys-A is my primary lead, and a great one it is. It laughs at any walls-physical or special. It's got great coverage with Boltbeam and STAB Psycho Shock. It also beats many Focus Sash leads; they set up Stealth Rock or Taunt, I get them down to 1 HP, and Extremespeed them to death. It also makes a great revenge killer, although it can't switch in on anything.

lucario.png

Lucario (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- ExtremeSpeed
- Swords Dance

Swords Dance Lucario, one of the biggest setup sweepers of Gen 4, returns to this team as my new setup sweeper. He sets up off Wobbuffet-when something is locked into a non-damaging move, he comes in and boosts. He does not fear priority, which is very helpful to my team which previously struggled against it.

wobbuffet.png

Wobbuffet (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Def / 228 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore
- Safeguard

OH NOES ITS WOBBUFFET! This pain in the butt is one of the best Pokemon in the game for letting other Pokemon set up. It can come in on a stat boosting move and Encore it, allowing me to switch in Lucario and set up. Alternatively, it can come in on an attack and counter/mirror coat it. Wobb is my number one physical dragon killer because he can come in on Outragers and KO them with Counter easily.

darkrai.png

Darkrai @ Life Orb
Trait: Bad Dreams
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Focus Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Dark Void

Darkrai has changed roles to a wallbreaker with Substitute. Wobbuffet can be very useful in this mission, as Darkrai can come in on a non-damaging move and set up a Sub. Then it can proceed to sleep the opposition or utilize its nearly unresisted Dark/Fighting attacks to easily defeat physical walls that pose problems to Lucario. I bring it out towards the end of battle to clear the path to Lucario's sweep.

gyarados.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake

Here is my BulkyDDdos, designed to stop physical sweepers cold and maybe sweep itself as a last resort. It can switch in on nearly any physical attack and cripple the sweeper with Intimidate. It's my best bet against Roobushin and many other physical sweepers that can go through my team easily. As a last resort, if Lucario is dead it can switch in on a physical attacker and attempt a sweep with DD. It works fairly well for this role because of its bulk, enabling it to take a few hits.

bronzong.png

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock

Meet the new, improved Dual Screen Bronzong! Screens are enormously helpful to this team as they allow my team to take the extremely powerful attacks that are running around such as Specs Latios Draco Meteor easily and set up. In addition, he's the best Doryuuzu counter a team could wish for, which is great because in sand it sweeps pretty easily. He can also set up Stealth Rock, which is very useful to an offensive team.

So...that's my team. Witness the awe-inspiring power of Ubers in OU!

Hey smashlloyd20, this is a pretty good team. Firstly, never EVER use Max HP on Wobbuffet. The defensise potential it loses is absolutely ridiculous. Use a spread of 28 HP / 252 Def / 228 SpDef and a Bold nature. You will want Focus Blast on Darkrai over Thunderbolt for almost perfect neutral coverage and the ability to threaten things like Sazandora and Nattorei. So change that please.

Use Max Spe on Deoxys-A so you can beat other Deoxys-A to the Extremespeed, or at least speed tie.

Currently you have quite a large weakness to things like Dory and Latias/Latios who all have the potential to pick off Pokemon on your team 1 by 1. Opposing Kyuremu do as well. I think the best option is a simple Bronzong over your Infernape, who is probably the most expendable member. Bronzong checks all of these Pokemon quite reliably and sets up Stealth Rock for your team, which is pretty useful to keep things like Salamence at bay.

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Levitate | Sassy
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpDef
Stealth Rock / Gyro Ball / Earthquake / Trick Room or Explosion

Trick Room may look like an odd decision, but it will be very useful against things like Balloon Dory, that you cannot actually beat if low on health[as you have to Gyro Ball then Quake]. This lets you revenge Pokemon like that with your Gyarados or another member of your team.

That is all I can suggest currently, and it looks like quite a solid offensive team, although it may have problems with all weather teams. Good luck!

You have definitely done a good job of abusing (including) many top threats of this new metagame-- but I can't help feel like this team lacks direction (a goal).

For instance, Wobb is most effectively used to help other pokemon setup-- but you lack any particularly frightening setup pokemon.

Long story short, DD Gyarados and Nasty Plot Darkrai are simply too slow to really run through teams in this metagame. Darkrai has serious issues sweeping with Tech-Breloom and Roobushin everywhere. Deoxy-A/S are also serious roadblocks, and both of these setup sweepers have issues with Shaymin S. For Gyarados, it's a harsh reality that scarf users are everywhere, and all of them outspeed. Let's also not forget OU's new king . . . Doryuuzu.

Trying to focus on these two as sweepers seems too naively optimistic to me.

Might I suggest replacing Nasty Plot with Substitute on Darkrai and using it as a Wall Breaker instead? With Dark Void and awesome coverage, it does the job more effectively than Kyuuremu anyway, who I would replace for a different setup sweeper (one that isn't SR weak).

There are plenty of great Setup sweepers that could go in that role, but I am going to point towards priority abusers like Breloom, Roobushin or Lucario (Nasty Plot or Swords Dance), as Priority abuse would definitely be welcome to this team.

@Chou Toshio;

Thanks for the rate. Kyuremu really hasn't been working well, so thanks for giving me an excuse to change that. In addition, I have noticed that priority tends to destroy this team, so that's something. I've chosen Lucario as my setup sweeper. I haven't actualy added the changes yet but they'll be up by tomorrow.

EDIT: changes made, ready for more rates!

Bronzong needs to lose Earthquake and/or Explosion, especially with no attack EVs. Explosion has been totally nerfed and Bronzong can benefit your team so much more by using Light Screen, Reflect and Hypnosis. Gyarados and Lucario can stat up so much easier behind a Light Screen it's ridiculous. If you don't care about his survivability because of Explosion then Leftovers is counterintuituve. Give him Light Clay. Your team will thank you.

Besides that your team doesn't seem to have many resistences you'll likely be revenging all the time. Only one Water resist, one Fire resist, no electric resist, and a big Bug weakness. Doryuzuu with X-Scizzor is a big problem for you, and you're U-Turn weak. All the more reason to give Bronzong Reflect. At least Wobuffet can use Safeguard to protect you from status. Also, Bronzong is the only pokemon you have to take Draco Meteor. Specs Latios can be problematic even only with Dragon Pulse.

Otherwise the sheer power and speed of your team is formidable. Most likely whoever gets the momentum in the beginning of the match against you is likely to keep it. 8/10 for raw power.

Hi, I got your PM.

Well, I really wanted to say this eversince. I never liked 5th Gen, but the new banlist actually makes me want to play it. :D I'm also surprised that people actually prefer Darkrai over Lugia. :D I'm really sorry but I'm not that good yet, I'm just starting actually. With the existence of new attacks, new pokemon, new ability and Ubers in the OU Metagame, I'd say this will be hard for me(cause I hated 5th Gen :D). Anyways, I'll try my best.

This is a very offensive team, and with the new banlist Lati@s will do a lot of damage to this team. Although you have Wobbuffet on your arsenal, Scizor's U-Turn will do mountful damage to it. Your team has a lot of trouble taking Latios' Specs'd Draco Meteor, it even does 41.1% - 48.5% to Bronzong. With Spikes and SR on the field, I think Draco Meteor will KO Wobba, I think yes, not sure.. Lol.. :D Don't know more, I'll learn more about this and rate again. :D

But the Offense on this team is fucking epic dude. Gotta say, this is what you call HEAVY Offense. :D That's all!! Good Luck!! Sorry if I suck.

Alright, I've taken your advice and changed Bronzong to the Dual Screen variant. Its' really helpful for setting up, thanks for suggesting it.

Hi I Got your Vm. This team looks very solid but Doryuzuu looks like a problem. To fix this I recommend a Ballon on Lucario. This prevents Lucario from being stopped by bulky grounds and Doryuzzu. GL with your team.

Doryuuzu is really not a problem for this team because of one thing; Bronzong, which walls it to infinity and back. In addition, Wobb can generally stop it in its tracks.

Well if Doryuzzu runs Brick Break then Brinzong ain't stopping him and with some hazards Wobbufet can be removed. Anyway try ballonluke. Even doryuzzu asside, it really helps.

Still not convinced. Life Orb's power boost is too good to pass up. Besides, Brick Break hits for neutral damage, only about 15% with screens up, while Gyro Ball does almost 50%.

OK, here is my suckish rate.

I only have a couple of minor nitpicks.
I think that Jolly is better than Adamant on Luke.
on Gyarados, I think the 4 Defence EVs should be changed to Speed, to outrun other BulkRados.

OK, that's my two cents, I don't know much about the new gen, so if you don't like the changes I suggest, then don't make them.

Hi, I got your PM.

Unfortunately, the Gen 5 metagame is unfimiliar to me but I'll try my best to help you out. I would suggest a Sub Latias over Darkrai, A set like this:

Latias @ Soul Dew <-- I have no idea if its banned or not, if it is use LO of lefties
Ev's: 4 Hp 252 Spe 252 Sp.Atk
Nature: Timid/Modest
Ability: Levitate
Moves:

Substitute
Dragon Pulse
Surf
Recover / Thunderbolt / Calm Mind

This set is pretty effective with dealing with threats and breaking walls. For the last slot I suggest that if you think you will be able to set up because of Wobb then go with CM or if you think bulky waters will be annoying then t-bolt is always a good option. Surf hits doryuzu hard on the switch. Dragon pulse is just for coverage and hitting other dragon types. Alternatively you can use Latios in place if you want the extra power instead of the extra bulk. Anyways I've said this before, but I'm not familiar yet with gen 5, but hope I could be of assistance to you.

Good Luck!

Sorry, but I've experimented with Lati@s and they just don't work. Darkrai is faster, and has the all-important Dark Void for sleep. In addition, Darkrai can sleep on the switch and beat Dory down with Focus Blast anyway, and I've got Bronzong. Sorry kid :(

Ehh.. Now worries, this just the start of Gen 5 and 'sides there are no Gen 5 analysis on site for pokes, so I expected something like this :p

Just a small suggestion - try stone edge on lucario. I used to use a SD luke and stone edge worked much better than crunch because there aren't many strong ghosts without Rotom-A (besides Gengar, but he generally ohko's anyway).

Great team smashlloyd. I really like how you use ubers to own the metagame at this point.

However I strongly suggest CM Latias in the spot of Darkrai.
Darkrai cannot setup as easily as Latias coming from a Wobby.
You might be surprised.

@Blatreuka-On the fence about this. Changed it for now but still in testing.

@Blisseyofdoom-You're right, but Darkrai is not a setup sweeper. It's a midgame Sub wallbreaker, and it does this job much better than Lati@s becuase of its higher speed.
