The Water Polo Thread

I couldn't find any water polo threads around here, so I decided to create one. I was just curious to see what other water polo players hang out around here on Smogon.

I'm currently in my third year of water polo, and am going to be at Pacific JO Qualifiers up in Walnut Creek this weekend with West Valley. Water polo has been my favorite sport since I discovered it in 7th grade, and I've been eager to learn everything I can at it. Unfortunately, I still have a long, long way to go before I get even close to being good. I usually play perimeter, but I'm the biggest guy on my school's frosh-soph team next year, which probably means I'll be be playing hole set. I also have pretty ok speed, since I've been swimming competitively for a long time as well.

Well, my school revived our water polo club again this past year, and I played on that after swim season. It was fun, but it was more just an excuse for us to screw around in the water outside of swimming. We did a little bit of strategy and formation work, but focused mostly on ball handling and throwing, real basic stuff. Since almost all of us were swimmers, we had a lot of speed and not much else. I like playing goalie, but I'm not that good (yet).

Our swim team plays water polo as a day off after big swim meets, but its actually pretty tough to play hard for over an hour. Its also pretty tough for me to palm the ball to really throw it as far and as hard as I want to.

My dad played water polo in college and still plays on a club team in my hometown, and we go watch every once in a while. Its a fun sport to watch when there is a lot of passing and shooting, but when it turns into a soccer match (lots of turnovers), its very boring.

Oh, I recently went to Hungary with my club team and played there! It was a lot of fun, even though the Hungarians creamed us... badly. :/
