It makes sense because hosts have limited time and willpower, and can't manage something that's harder to do than a 512 man tournament first round every single week. Week 1 (265 matches, 6 tiers); Week 2 (246 matches, 6 tiers, 3 categories). I reckon you need some exceptional mental management skills to add the burden of checking activity in all unplayed matches for this tournament and not let it get in a mess. There's a limit to how much you can worry to do things you don't feel like doing before you will feel physically insecure (part of fight-or-flight response). It'd be great to have a team that could achieve a lot together but co-ordinating such a thing is not easy.
