Highlights

Threat of the Week: Mega Venusaur

: Fat mon.

Not Archived

None. Good job. Zeraora kinda a shit mon and a little unreliable against the core, but it's okay.

Week 26 Core: Slowbro + Tangrowth

Slowbro (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Slack Off

Tangrowth (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 244 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Grass Knot
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Earthquake

  • Respect the Bro. It's non-mega Slack Off 3 Attacks (Scald, Ice Beam, Flamethrower), partnered with Sludge Bomb AV Tangrowth. Simple defensive core, but definitely effective.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Slowbro + Tangrowth. Everyone have a good day!
  • PM me a few cores if you guys have any good ideas I could use!

Travis Scott + Drake tings.
"SICKO MODE"

Kartana @ Fightinium Z / Grassium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Knock off

OR

Kartana @ Choice Band
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike

I'm not entirely sure which of these two sets is better for taking down that duo. On one hand SD Kart OHKOs both mons with +2 leaf blade / All Out Pummeling - and even tangrowth doesn't live +2 Bloom Doom with Bulu as a teammate - but you have to scout for HP Fire first, even if this tangrowth doesn't have it. On the other hand banded kart provides way more immediate firepower at the cost of not OHKOing either mon from full but isn't as worried about HP Fire if tangrowth's use of it involves losing its AV and getting annihilated by the special wallbreaker in the back that it was supposed to check.

Either way, Kartana puts an insane amount of pressure for those two, and is fully capable of beating them on its own once this tangrowth reveals its lack of HP Fire.

SD:
252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 264-312 (67 - 79.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 Atk Kartana Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 376-444 (95.4 - 112.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Kartana All-Out Pummeling (175 BP) vs. 244 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 402-474 (100 - 117.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Kartana Bloom Doom (175 BP) vs. 244 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth in Grassy Terrain: 453-533 (112.6 - 132.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Band:
252 Atk Choice Band Kartana Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 244 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 168-198 (41.7 - 49.2%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Kartana Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 282-334 (71.5 - 84.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 392-464 (99.4 - 117.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Kyurem-Black @ Icium Z
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Freeze Shock
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power / Substitute

Tapu Koko @ Leftovers
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 20 SpD / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Defog
- Roost
- U-turn

With Electric Terrain support from Tapu Koko, Kyurem-Black can 2HKO both members of the core cleanly while taking little from their attacks. Tapu Koko also baits in Tangrowth and U-Turns out of it into KyuB, while it can also Roost off Scalds from Slowbro if you feel the need to not let KyuB take one.
Offensive:
0- Atk Tapu Koko U-turn vs. 244 HP / 8 Def Tangrowth: 84-100 (20.8 - 24.8%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
4 SpA Teravolt Kyurem-Black Ice Beam vs. 244 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 168-198 (41.7 - 49.2%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
(U-Turn on the switch --> Ice Beam 2HKOs)
252 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-Black Freeze Shock vs. 244 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 458-542 (113.9 - 134.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
(In case you're an absolute legend who doesn't feel like using up your Z-move)
252 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-Black Fusion Bolt vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 186-220 (47.2 - 55.8%) -- 22.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
(2HKO with hazards)
252 Atk Teravolt Kyurem-Black Fusion Bolt vs. 252 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro in Electric Terrain: 280-330 (71 - 83.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Defensive calcs:
0 SpA Slowbro Scald vs. 20 HP / 20 SpD Tapu Koko: 108-127 (37.7 - 44.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
(What's the point of running Roost Koko if you're not pivoting into weak Scalds?)
0 SpA Slowbro Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Kyurem-Black: 79-93 (20.2 - 23.7%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Kyurem-Black: 85-101 (21.7 - 25.8%) -- 2% chance to 4HKO

Zard-Y 1-2HKOes both Slowbro and Tangrowth with Solar Beam and Flamethrower, respectively, while both these mons can't heavily damage Zard-Y in return.
252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Solar Beam vs. 248 HP / 44 SpD Slowbro: 348-410 (88.5 - 104.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Flamethrower vs. 244 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth in Sun: 372-440 (92.5 - 109.4%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Haze
- Recover
- Toxic

Fellow regenerator toxapex simply sits in front of these 2 and toxic stalls them to death.

0 Atk Tangrowth Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Toxapex: 100-118 (33 - 38.9%) -- 7.3% chance to 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery

Volcarona @ Buginium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power Ground

Both Tangrowth and Slowbro are basically setup bait for Volcarona, only fearing Sludge Bomb poisons. They're weak to its respective STAB moves aswell.

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Neither appreciate taking Hurricane provided it lands, and Hurricane into Skystrike is a clean KO on bro. It doesn’t appreciate Ice Beam all that much but good players don’t miss Hurricane.

Hoopa-Unbound @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Dark Pulse
- Psyshock/Psychic
- Focus Blast

Hoopa-U eats this core for breakfast, Choice Specs Dark Pulse + Psychic, and Trick cripples either mon) destroys both Slowbro and Tangrowth, Choice Band Hyperspace Fury hits them both for massive damage, and Nasty Plot Hoopa-U just blows them to Mars.

Specs Calc:
252 SpA Choice Specs Hoopa-Unbound Psychic vs. 252 HP / 228+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 201-237 (49.7 - 58.6%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Psychic vs. 252 HP / 228+ SpD Tangrowth: 201-237 (49.7 - 58.6%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO (Tricked Tangrowth)
252 SpA Choice Specs Hoopa-Unbound Psychic vs. 248 HP / 44 SpD Slowbro: 153-181 (38.9 - 46%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 44 SpD Slowbro: 366-432 (93.1 - 109.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

Banded Calc:
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 248 HP / 216+ Def Slowbro: 396-468 (100.7 - 119%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Hoopa-Unbound Hyperspace Fury vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tangrowth: 235-277 (58.1 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Nasty Plot Calc:

+2 252 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 228+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 475-559 (117.5 - 138.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Hoopa-Unbound Dark Pulse vs. 248 HP / 44 SpD Slowbro: 728-860 (185.2 - 218.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Feels good to be irrelevant so that no one snatches your shit.

Reuniclus @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Psychic/Pyshock
- Acid Armor/Energy Ball
- Recover

Do you know what passive cores are good at most of the time? Losing to Reuniclus! Slowbro can’t do shit and Tangrowth’s best option is Knock Off. They’re both easy set up fodder either way. Energy Ball over Acid Armor is a viable option as well if you want to specifically fuck with Slowbro but it really just comes down to preference.

Edit: Either Psychic and Acid Armor or Psyshock and Energy Ball beats this core so pick your poison.

Highlights

Threat of the Week: Reuniclus

: Reuniclus sets up all over the core pretty much for free, the only drawback would be losing Leftovers on Tangrowth.

Not Archived

None. Good job.

Week 27 Core: Mega Mawile + Hydreigon

Mawile-Mega (F) @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch

Hydreigon (M) @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 244 SpA / 32 SpD / 232 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon
- Roost

  • Mega Mawile is A+ rank now so we're doing a core based around it again, with a nice Roost Z-Move Hydreigon helping it deal with the likes of Heatran and Ash-Greninja, if you've seen the OLT team then this Hydreigon set should be nothing new to you, anyways, get to core breaking!
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Mega Mawile + Hydreigon. Everyone have a good day!

This is dedicated to you if you felt the lowest of the low, I know how it feels, you don't wanna struggle anymore...

Felixx

I'm back.
Also, I have some bad news; I won't be able to host this project for any longer, I have a busy life that's only going to get busier with my exams nearing, so I'm officially dropping this project, it was fun while it lasted, but I have an IRL life to attend to, and a weekly project only gets in way of that. Really glad I was given the chance to host this, but everything has to come to an end, and thus this is Felixx signing off! (But I'll still be alive on Smogon lol, need to finish up a Serp analysis ofc). Don't reply here if you want to host the project, PM any mods like Finchinator for example.

Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power Fire

Lele can't really switch into anything, but it outspeeds and obliterates Hydreigon with Moonblast, while cleanly 2HKOing Mega Mawile with Psychic, or with Moonblast after hazards. Blocking Sucker Punch with its terrain is helpful.

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 172-203 (62.7 - 74%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 121-143 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after 1 layer of Spikes

shiny mmedi is cool
Medicham-Mega @ Medichamite
Ability: Telepathy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch

M-Medi outpaces both M-Maw and Hydra, survives unboosted Sucker Punch from M-Maw and OHKOes them with HJK. M-Medi can't switch into any move from members of the core, though, as it's very frail.
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Medicham-Mega: 164-194 (62.8 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Pure Power Medicham-Mega High Jump Kick vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 292-345 (106.5 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Garchomp outspeeds both members of this core and OHKOs both with its STAB attacks.

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant/Jolly
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- Superpower

Needs Rain support but beats this core. Superpower guarantees the OHKO on Hydreigon while Earthquake OHKOs Mega Mawile. Also Mega Swampert lives a +2 Sucker Punch at full so that’s just another benefit. Mega Swampert does need rain up for Hydreigon but it nonetheless wins against Mega Mawile

+2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Swampert-Mega: 266-313 (78 - 91.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Magearna @ Fightinium Z / Fairium Z
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Timid Nature
- Shift Gear
- Fleur Cannon
- Focus Blast / Hidden Power Fire
- Thunderbolt / Calm Mind

Simple enough - even without defensive investment, Mag can tank Drei's Dark Pulse + Earth Power, MMaw's unboosted Play Rough + Sucker Punch or MMaw's +2 Play Rough and OHKO/2HKO back.

244+ SpA Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Magearna: 61-72 (20.2 - 23.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
244+ SpA Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Magearna: 184-218 (61.1 - 72.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 0 HP / 32 SpD Hydreigon: 900-1060 (276.9 - 326.1%) -- LOL

252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 123-145 (40.8 - 48.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 64-75 (21.2 - 24.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
+2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 246-290 (81.7 - 96.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Magearna Hidden Power Fire vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 138-164 (50.3 - 59.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Magearna Focus Blast vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 137-162 (50 - 59.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Magearna All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 216-255 (78.8 - 93%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Magearna All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Mawile-Mega: 323-381 (117.8 - 139%) -- guaranteed OHKO

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike

Really any Kartana set can threaten this core, but I like Choice Band the most currently. Sacred Sword and Smart Strike threaten both Mega Mawile and Hydreigon. SD sets can OHKO Mega Mawile with a +1 AoP.

Dragon Dance Mega Charizard-X

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Roost/Earthquake
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw

'Zard can Dragon Dance turn 1 on Mawile, then KO it with Flare Blitz (since it should live a +2 Sucker Punch), and then proceed to KO Hydregion with Dragon Claw. The only thing to be careful of is Recoil Damage from Flare Blitz vs Mawile.

calcs:

252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Dragon Claw vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 372-440 (114.4 - 135.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Flare Blitz vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 422-498 (154 - 181.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 131-155 (44.1 - 52.1%) -- 16.4% chance to 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Huge Power Mawile-Mega Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 262-309 (88.2 - 104%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

Highlights

Threat of the Week: Mega Medicham

: It's difficult to get this in but once it's in you basically just click High Jump Kick twice. I picked Mega Medicham > Charizard X because, while Charizard X is definitely a huge threat, Mega Medicham is a better meta pick currently.

None, nice job.

Round 28 Core: Mega Medicham + Serperior

Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Telepathy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power Fire / Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Glare

  • Mega Medicham is one of the most threatening wallbreakers right now as it is only walled by a handful of Pokemon. Serperior is here to paralyze faster Pokemon, most notably Tornadus-T, which a lot of teams rely on to deal with Mega Medicham.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Mega Medicham + Serperior. Everyone have a good day!

This Song of the Week will be "Swish" from Leafs, who is one of my favorite dutch artists, definitely give it a listen.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Cursed Body
Evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast / Substitute
- Taunt

Gengar needs to be kept away from Glare - at least until MMedi's down - but if it can land a Taunt or get off a Substitute without being paralysed, it's more than likely GG right there. MMedi is outsped and both members are completely demolished by its STABs. (Note that Gengar goes from a good check to a solid counter if you pair it with your own paralysis or cleric support.)

252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Medicham-Mega: 393-463 (150.5 - 177.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 56 HP / 0 SpD Serperior: 421-499 (138 - 163.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
