Hey guys! Well, I'm here with my first RMT, obviously, in my favorite tier at the moment: UU. When I started building the team, I didn't really have much in mind, apart from wanting to try Poliwrath, due to its awesome typing and ability. With Poliwrath's great typing in mind, I started to think what I knew generally about the current meta-game, which wasn't much - due to having little time/inspiration to play lately. I knew of the recent stats and what sat at the top and sat staring at the computer before adding the next few Pokemon. Seeing as Poliwrath was a Pokemon I'd never used competitively before, seeing as I only started in 5th Gen, I decided to use other UU pokes that I rarely used, if ever.

I suppose my goal was to have some kind of synergy with each Pokemon in the team, so I could keep the ball rolling. The triple use of rest was not intentional and will probably change eventually, but it's worked so far without any edits. If I would have to suggest a style for this kind of team, I would suspect it to be balance, but it plays quite differently game to game, but perhaps I should just get into the Pokemon and let you decide for yourselves!

Poliwrath (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Circle Throw
- Scald
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

A generic Poliwrath set, yes, but one that I've never used and was tempted to try out. Circle throw and Scald came as obvious choices to me. A gimic set of belly drum was not appealing and Poliwrath's offenses don't appeal to me in terms of a sub-punching set. Noting this, Poliwrath's typing is ideal for sponging strong physical dark, bug and fire attacks, which may otherwise give my team trouble. The shuffling effect from Circle Throw, combined with hazards, is a great means of wearing down the opponents so that Krookodile can clean up. Scald is great for catching Pokemon off guard or perhaps snaring a burn. Seeing as Poliwrath's recovery is reliant on Leftovers or Water Absorb (Which occurs maybe once a battle if lucky), I decided that rest and sleep talk would be preferable. Sleep talk also removes the negative priority on Circle Throw, though that rarely is relevant due to the negative speed nature but deserves a mention.

Snorlax (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Whirlwind
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Body Slam

Snorlax is the secondary wall of the team, providing a secondary shuffling effect. Having never used Snorlax before, I was greatly impressed. It's walling capabilities along side it's great bulk, ability to paralyze and shuffle Pokemon has been amazing. The shuffling effect alone has been able to whittle down teams in conjunction with hazards by itself. I've noticed that a lot of teams on PO struggle to deal with Snorlax a lot of the time, and finding opportunities to keep it alive via rest is often vital. Being the second rest user in my team, I always have to be careful to not be forced out or be forced to lose Snorlax due to the new mechanic of rest resetting after a switch. However, with Snorlax being such a great tank of special hits, it normally finds chances to come in on a weak hit, and survive for three turns to rest again via sleep talk/leftovers.

Roserade (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Rest

Now that I had two Pokemon with phasing moves, I decided that Roserade was an excellent choice, as well as a means of eating Toxic Spikes for Krookodile and Sableye. Deciding that Sleep Powder was an unreliable choice and phasing was a high priority, I went for Spikes. Realising that my team was also carrying a lot of leftovers and Roserade really wouldn't need to take any unnecessarily strong hits, I opted for Life Orb. Rest just seemed the right fit as the last move as it is alleviated via Natural Cure. At first, I hadn't realised this was my third rest user, but so far, it really hasn't hindered me to much at all.

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Stealth Rock
- Flash Cannon
- Psychic

Bronzong was a strange idea for me at first. Classically, I'd only ever seen the Pokemon as a support/rock setter. This set, which I created a weird EV spread for, was one that managed to still have rocks, but become a powerful threat in it's own right with only a few calm minds. Many times I've had opponents on the ropes because they didn't feel that my Bronzong would be an effective special threat. Bronzong gets many oppourtunities to set up one or two calm minds due to it's typing and natural defenses. The rocks provide extra support for my Poliwrath and Snorlax, whilst also filing it's fourth and final move slot.

Krookodile (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Crunch

Krookodile just seemed like a great fit for my team. I needed a scarf user with sweeping capabilities and this Pokemon just seemed to fit the bill. Moxie is a great ability and is what allows Krookodile to win a game by itself from time to time. Krookodile also effective traps Psychics such as Xatu not running U-Turn and other Psychics types on occasion. It's ground typing can often come in handy for soaking the occasional thunder wave or blocking scarfed/specs Volt Change users.

Sableye (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Recover
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Night Shade

Lastly Sableye just seemed like a great choice. A handy spin blocker, capable of dealing with nearly all Claydol, burning Hitmontop and taking minimal damage from defensive Blastoise. Not only that, it is able to spread burns, as my team can on occasion fear strong physical Fighting attacks if my Poliwrath has fainted. As for Night Shade over Foul Play, I'm not really sure which option I like more. I've seen Foul Play used against me and so far haven't been impressed. I'll probably have to test it out later or see what you guys have to say about it to me. So far, the most useful application I've seen is against Specially Defensive Snorlax.

Threat List

-Coming Soon?-

Thanks for reading my RMT! It is my first and in my excitement there are probably heaps of grammatical mistakes or plain poor writing. Hopefully I'll be able to climb higher up the ladder, but with exams looming, I doubt that will happen to soon. I hope you enjoyed reading this! Look for UnEdit on UU c:

Hey Ossy,

Your team looks solid, but there are some things you may consider to change. First, you should probably change your Roserade set to the standard Spikes set on smogon analysis. With your current set, it's very difficult to set up Spikes, as Roserade's bulk is very limited if uninvested, so you should try a 252 Hp / 120 Def / 136 SpD spread along a Calm Nature and Leftovers as item.

Your team looks very weak to opposing Spikestacking teams, as you lack a spinner of your own. You could easily fix this by using Blastoise over Poliwrath, as Blastoise can do everything Poliwrath can but it has access to Rapid Spin as well. Here's the set:

Blastoise@Leftovers | Rain Dish
Bold Nature | 252 Hp / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Rapid Spin / Scald / Ice Beam / Roar

Hope I've helped you!

Thanks for the input! I have considered both of these options before. In terms of Roserade, I've found that I do get chances to at least set up 2-3 layers of spikes regardless of the lack of bulk. Generally I can come in on other Roserades and set up as they do. The added power and speed has actually come in handy to, plus swapping it to a defensive set would have five Pokemon on my team with leftovers/black sludge.

In terms of Blaistoise, that is a reasonable choice. I think in most of my matches, Spikes haven't been an issue for me, due to Sableye (mostly). Battles where they have tried to set up spikes don't really come to mind except for one battle, but I was able to pull of rests/recovers/Bronzong levitates.

I'll have to test it eventually. The main reason for Poliwrath is for the damaging Phase as well as the resistance to bug. Edit: The survivability is also nice.

As a seasoned UU player, it is vital to speed creep on Sableye, otherwise against other Sableye you will have to rely on speed ties to get off the taunt, not a good business plan. I recommend pulling 12-20 evs from hp, depending on how neurotic you are. I'm pretty neurotic and run 20. Nice team.

This is a really solid team. The main problem I see here is Heracross as you really don't have much to switch in, save Bronzong, and CB Hera 2HKOs. Poliwrath can't do much since Scald might burn it activating guts and Circle Throw does lol damage. Psychic on zong also doesn't OHKO with no boosts. For this reason I'd reccomend changing Psychic on Zong to Psyshock because iirc If you get up all your hazards or it might be 2 spikes I can't recall of the top of my head, when Hera switches in it will get OHKOes by Zong

Besides that, Great Team and Good Luck! :)
