Tournament TLT IV: Playoffs Round 2

Welcome to the fourth iteration of TLT (Tours' Leaderboard Tournament)! Throughout this tournament, players will battle in best-of-five format each round, with Smogon's standard tiers being the metagames played. This tournament is now Single elimination.

The tiers that will be played are:

SS Ubers
SS OU
SS UU
SS RU
SS NU
SS PU
SS LC


In order to fairly determine the five of these seven tiers played in each individual matchup, players will take turns locking and eliminating tiers among themselves. They'll both lock one tier, followed by eliminating one tiers, thus leaving five to be played. The lower seeded player will lock the first tier, followed by the higher seed player. Then the lower seeded player will eliminate the first tier, followed by the higher seed player. The higher seed player picks what tier is played first of the five tiers. After that, the loser of game one picks which of the remaining tiers is played for game two and so on until there's a series winner or a game five. Naturally, game five will be played in the last remaining tier.

Sportsmanship: Don't be an ass. Not to your opponents, not on PS, not on Smogon, not to me. A bit of friendly banter is ok, but please know where to draw the line. Think before you type, please.

Scheduling and Activity Wins: Contact your opponent as quickly as possible on their Smogon wall, and look out for them on PS. You will have one week from the posting of the week's matches to get it done. Extensions will be for two days after the scheduled deadline, and no further. If your opponent is not responding to your post on their wall, cannot be found on PS, or miss multiple scheduled times, make a detailed activity post in the thread letting me know why you deserve the win. No activity post means no activity call. As long as you have visible attempts at scheduling (such as wall posts), you will be fine.

Disconnections and Timer: A timer loss is a loss. No if's, and's, or but's about it. If your opponent is nice enough to replay that's fine, but they are by no means obligated to.

Ghosting and Identity: Don't take or give battle advice or make moves based solely on the suggestions of others, and don't pretend to be someone else in order to play as them. You will be caught, and you will be disqualified from this tournament as well as future PS! tournaments (BLT, PSPL, etc.).

Substitutions: Substitutions will be made only for rounds one & two, with round two subs taking the record of the person they are subbing in for.

5. Decem vs 21. RaJ.Shoot (3-1*): Raj without LC isn't really good for him + Decem's pfp makes it impossible to bold against

7. Sensei Axew vs 10. Sificon (3-1): I've been bolding against sifi a lot and he's been playing really well but I don't see him winning against axew, soz ;-;

3. APW001 vs 14. EternalSnowman (3-2): this looks even since they're quite similar but apw has a bit more luck stat from what I've seen

6. Stareal vs 11. iNoLife (3-1): iNoLife beat the godly Richard Pepper so a slight edge is given but this won't be easy for him

4. Luthier vs 13. 100%GXE - As others have said, likely the HL set of the round. Taking Luthier in what I assume will be 4/5 games.

5. Decem vs 21. RaJ.Shoot - Gonna roll with Decem here (is it Deck-em' or Decem as if you were about to pronounce the month???)

2. TeamCharm69 vs 15. Miraage - Charm should be favored here, although Gambit's win over Gray is quite impressive.

7. Sensei Axew vs 10. Sificon - Vying for 2nd best matchup in my opinion. Think it will be close but expecting SA to go through.

3. APW001 vs 14. EternalSnowman - This will be close, assume it can go either way but will go with Mal in what feels like a coin flip.

6. Stareal vs 11. iNoLife - Stareal should move on handily.

Lost to arce9 in 5. It was fun, though this is what I expected would happen from the start. I don't feel sad that I lost and that my tlt run is over, but rather proud that I took it to game 5 against a player I respect, and with how far I made it this time in comparison to years previous where I never won even once. Ggs arce9, and gl next round. Many thanks to everyone who gave me teams each week to help me advance as far as I did. For this week: s/o to giove97 for the goated lc team, s/o to GW for the nu team, and s/o to TeamCharm69 for the pu team and for being the biggest help to me of the whole tour! Ok, enough with that, on to the stuff you actually want to read: PREDICTS!

1. kythr vs 16. saba1111 - Both are great players and very versatile, but I think kythr is just better here, though I doubt saba will go down without a good fight.

9. TheFranklin vs 25. Cheese5555 - This is perhaps the closest series this week. I spent a while contemplating this one, but came to the conclusion that cheese should have the edge. From what I know of both players, I think cheese is favored in more tiers than arce. On top of that, while I feel arce may be better normally, but he's a bit inconsistent. I feel cheese is the more consistent of the 2.

4. Luthier vs 13. 100%GXE - It's finally happening lads!! The 2 best players in the tour going head to head at last, even if it would have been better for finals. This could be close but I'm pretty set on Luthier being the victor here. Luthier has had the better tlt so far, he's the more experienced player and I feel he has an advantage in team building. The 2 may be near equals in playing skill, but those other factors lead me to think Luthier will take the set.

5. Decem vs 21. RaJ.Shoot - This should be a good series, but I think Decem is the better and more versatile player here. Raj has done well so far and Decem-ber is over, so I imagine Raj will at least take 1 or 2 games.

2. TeamCharm69 vs 15. Miraage - It is a mistake to underestimate the power of memes and unsets, especially when its from TeamCharm. This will either be good or it will just end in gambit being crushed by charm's unique teams.

7. Sensei Axew vs 10. Sificon - Sensei Axew has played against and won vs quite a few very good opponents, including gxe, and while sifi is good, they're no gxe. I think Sensei Axew is more solid in their main/stronger tiers than sifi, so I don't think Sensei Axew will have any problems taking this series.

3. APW001 vs 14. EternalSnowman - Apw has definitely proven himself by making it this far but I feel the road ends here for him. Though apw seems to be the more versatile player, I think esm is the better player with the several years of experience he has on apw. I think esm will also have the goat team support of fellow veterans while apw builds his own teams. I wouldn't be surprised if apw ends up winning, but I think esm will take this in 5.

6. Stareal vs 11. iNoLife - This may be closer than most seem to think, as inolife has definitely had some very good performances this tlt, but I think star has the advantage, being good in more tiers (like Sensei Axew) while inolife seems to be more of an all-arounder. I could easily see this going either way but Star should win depending on the tiers.

1. kythr vs 16. saba1111: Kythr hates to lose, meanwhile saba is somewhat of a clown. To jate to lose one must seek to win. To win against a clown one must put the clown in a situation that the clown does not expect, thus he can spin it into humor. Here Saba expects to lose so for kythr to win (and hence not lose so he does not hate it), saba must win. Logic.

9/24. TheFranklin vs 25. Cheese5555: TheFranklin likes to relax while cheese is a cheese. Ever try relaxing on a huge piece of cheese? I have. It is smelly and slimly and... no.

Pule cheese or magareći sir is a Serbian cheese made from the milk of Balkan donkey. A characteristic feature of Serbian cuisine, Pule is not only extremely rare but also the most expensive cheese in the world. Zasavica donkey reserve, a donkey farm inside Zasavica, about 80 kilometres from Belgrade produces the donkey cheese by hand-milking a herd of about 100 endangered Balkan donkeys. By selling the donkey cheese at 1,000 pounds per kilogram (app. $576 a pound), the Zasavica donkey reserve plans to sponsor their conservation work. It takes 25 litres of donkey milk to produce just one kilogram of white & crumbly smoked cheese. Currently, the cheese is made only on advanced order basis but farm exports are expected soon in the United Kingdom, Germany and the rest of the world.

4. Luthier vs 13. 100%GXE: Luthier's birthday is December 12th. He is a Sagittarius. Meanwhile GXE's birthday is sep 19 and he is a virgo. Those two starsigns actually nuturalize each other nicely. Sagittarius's extreme openness is nullified by Virgo's equally extreme conscientiousness. What put gxe ahead is experience. He is 109 years old Thus he will have seen anything luthier can throw at him.

5. Decem vs 21. RaJ.Shoot: Decem likes to relax, but I know for a fact raj does not relax. He will simply outwork decem and thus win the match. Plus I think raj has a tendency to bring hot sets and what not and the could definitely give him a leg up over a vet like decem.

2. TeamCharm69 vs 15. Miraage: Teamcharm hates to lose and miraage likes to relax (does half of everyone on this site like to relax!!!). Look charm, you will attack a Miraage relaxing but you will notice too late that it is his afterimage or in other words... a mirage.

7. Sensei Axew vs 10. Sificon: Sensei Axew's favorite pokemon is Growlithe and sifi's is Bounsweet. After doing some research I found out that growlithe is a fire type and bounswet is a grass type, but even more shocking is the fact that fire deals double damge or is "super effective" against grass types. Hopefully this helps on teambuilding.

3. APW001 vs 14. EternalSnowman: APW is from the UK which to an American like me = England which is country I do not believe exists. ESM is from San Diego which is German for a whale's elastic, muscular canal with a soft, flexible lining that provides lubrication and sensation. I believe the English or some island country hunts whales, so I am taking APW for this one.

6. Stareal vs 11. iNoLife: I picked Star because he was the higher seed. I am smart like that.

1. (65) kythr vs 16. saba1111 (35)

I'm gonna have to go with a 65:35 here. I don't really see saba ending kythr's run, but that possibility could change depending on the tiers picked by saba (such as OU/Ubers, for example). I know kythr is less knowledgeable here, but there are still multiple other tiers that kythr simply is just better at, improving his odds for winning.

9. (60) TheFranklin vs 25. Cheese5555 (40)

Coming off of the extended win vs PokeArt, I expect arce9 to also take it over Cheese here. Similar case as the kythr vs saba match-up, where I don't honestly see Cheese being the one to end arce's run. His gameplay vs PokeArt was pretty shaky, as he admitted himself, but I'm sure that he'll pick it back up here and go back into Slam Play-offs mode.

4. (60) Luthier vs 13. 100%GXE (40)

Wow I didn't put 50:50, 55:45, or 45:55 for this! I have a good feeling Luth will be winning this—he's overall the more consistent and proven player and more relevant tours than GXE. Luthier also went for quite a bit of cash in this year's SPL, so I'm expecting good things from Luth this year. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes to GXE obviously.

5. (60) Decem vs 21. Raj.Shoot (40)

Decem is the better player in this match-up, and I think he'll likely be able to take it over Raj. Raj's showing in the pools didn't fully impress me as much as Decem's run, so I'll also be referencing seeding for this prediction. Decem is an underrated semis pick for sure.

2. (55) TeamCharm69 vs. 15. Miraage (45)

I might've predicted against TC69 the entire tour. Now watch as the one time I predict for them, they lose.

7. (65) Sensei Axew vs 10. Sificon (35)

Sensei's side of the bracket is very promising for him—I can definitely see him being a semi-finalist or even finalist at this rate. He's been tearing up the competition this tour and no one really seems to be mentioning him?

3. (40) APW001 vs 14. EternalSnowman (60)

ESM got a very solid win over mj last week, while APW took it over the 30th seed, A&A (who I don't know). ESM, in my opinion, will likely come with a better support system and better playing ability in this. Seeding may tell a different story, but I'd definitely say ESM is pretty favored.

Even if Stareal didn't already win this would've been my prediction.

I'm kinda sad that I couldn't make it as far as last TLT (I got top 12 there) but I think playwise this has been my best TLT run so far and I'm happy with my own performance.
