Tournament TLT VIII: Round 8 (SEMI-FINALS)

Welcome to the eighth iteration of TLT (Tours' Leaderboard Tournament)! Throughout this tournament, players will battle in a best-of-three/best-of-five (from the 6th round on) format each round, with Smogon's standard tiers being the metagames played. This tournament is also double elimination, so if you're defeated once, you're still in the loser's portion of the bracket.

The tiers that will be played are:
SV Ubers
SV OU
SV UU
SV RU
SV NU
SV PU
SV LC
SV DOU
SV Monotype

In order to fairly determine the three of these nine tiers played in each individual matchup, players will take turns locking and eliminating tiers among themselves. They'll both lock two tiers, followed by eliminating one tier each, thus leaving five tiers to be played. The lower seeded player will lock the first tier, followed by the higher seed player. Then the lower seeded player will eliminate the first tier, followed by the higher seed player, and it will repeat in that order two more times. The higher seed player picks what tier is played first of the three tiers. After that, the loser of game one picks which of the two tiers is played for game two etc.

Basic tournament rules - read these, especially if you're new to forum tours
Sportsmanship: Don't be an ass. Not to your opponents, not on PS, not on Smogon, not to me. A bit of friendly banter is ok, but please know where to draw the line. Think before you type, please.

Scheduling and Activity Wins: Contact your opponent as quickly as possible on their Smogon wall, and look out for them on PS. You will have one week from the posting of the week's matches to get it done. Extensions will be for two days after the scheduled deadline, and no further. If your opponent is not responding to your post on their wall, cannot be found on PS, or miss multiple scheduled times, make a detailed activity post in the thread letting me know why you deserve the win. No activity post means no activity call. As long as you have visible attempts at scheduling (such as wall posts), you will be fine.

Disconnections and Timer: A timer loss is a loss. No if's, and's, or but's about it. If your opponent is nice enough to replay that's fine, but they are by no means obligated to.

Ghosting and Identity: Don't take or give battle advice or make moves based solely on the suggestions of others, and don't pretend to be someone else in order to play as them. You will be caught, and you will be disqualified from this tournament as well as future PS! tournaments (BLT, PSPL, etc.).

Substitutions: Substitutions will be made only for rounds one & two, with round two subs only being allowed for any participants in the loser's bracket.

- Can wesh keep the undefeated dreams alive?

Rofna has proven themself as a strong contender in the tour coming into this round with an overall record of 9-2 and showing off a very polished game. He has gone 2-0 in monotype which i would consider his strongest tier and dou which is a tier they are deceptively good at. As for the rest of the tiers he isnt really that good at any of them as i will elaborate soon. As for gameplay rofna is a very consistent and well rounded with a good grasp of pretty much everything, but doesnt really have anything they are outstanding at. As for a relevant weakness rofna is honestly not that good at many metagames, with them consistently just cruising through games based on purely skill alone and just bringing standard. For example in this game they bring a very standard (a bit outdated but i digress) hyper offense team and even though they show basically no metagame knowledge they still win just simply based of being better. This has gone fine for them so far based on just how good they are but against a player as amazing as wesh this is very punishable.

For Wesh Papillon they have shown themself to be by far the best player in pool going 8-0 through the 4 rounds they have played and is the only player in tlt history to do so. The most impressive part of this is that they have done it whilst not playing a single game of lc which has been historically their best tier. As for tiers Wesh has shown he self to be incredibly well rounded and is great at all tiers but one .That one weak tier is dou, which is honestly just average. In terms of there playstyle they have a amazing grasp of pretty much all concepts and because of that are able to play aggresive when needed but can also ramp it down and play passive when needed. Another thing that should be noted is they are basically the only player in the pool that can consistently make good reads. A relevant weakness for wesh is how they can sometimes lack flexibility in terms of gameplan, where they notice a certain win con on preview/early in the game and play to it only for an alternative win con to pop up, which they can sometimes fail to notice. For the record that can be a hard thing to notice when your playing a close game with low timer but i digress.

As for the tiers being played we have (Ubers, Ou, Pu, Lc, Monotype). Wesh is favored in all tiers expect for Mono but rofna is good at ou from what ive seen so that could be close. Ubers is looking like it will be very one sided, as rofna has shown themself to not be all that good at the tier. AS for ou this is looking like it could shape up to be a close game but i still think wesh is just better. Pu is another one sided wesh game as is the same for lc. Monotype is rofna's strongest tier but given the matchup reliant nature of the tier wesh could take it.

In terms of the games, i think that wesh will pretty easily win whatever tier they pick first if it is not mono. I also believe that rofna's consistent use of very standard teams will be punished by wesh and that they will be put on the back foot for most of the games. I feel like it will also be very challenging for rofna to make a comback in those games, but not impossible. The most interesting game of the set will probably be mono, as both players seem evenly matched but on the bases of wesh scouting a lot better im leaning them.

Prediction:
Wesh Papillon wins 3-0 Monotype Ou Pu

Terracotta

- I already went over the players last week so im going to be skipping it .

Terra and Pollo are playing (ubers, lc, uu, nu, pu). For lc this will probably be a one sided for pollo as though the tour they have shown there prowess in the tier. I feel the same about ubers for terracotta, but i think with a good matchup pollo could make it close. As for uu i think this will be the highlight game and could honestly go either way but im leaning pollo just based of there better flexibility. For Nu pollo seems better again, as they have shown great metagame knowledge of the tier. Pu looks to be a close set but terra probably wins given how good balance is in the tier.

As for the games I think this will be a very close back and forth set. Outside of each players main tiers, i think that pollo will probably take nu in a close game with terra following up with a close win in Pu. I think for the final game if pollo is able to play as aggressive as the have shown in the past i believe they will be able to win uu and with that the set but i wouldn't be surprised if terracotta won.

Prediction:
PolloAriosto wins 3-2 Uber Lc Pu Nu Uu

Tldr : Wesh is insane and pollo is shiest.

Note: These predicts are worse then last weeks as i had less time to spend watching replays.
